How Did it Start ?
Department of Children and FamiliesCPIs, APIs, and ESS Programs
In 2010 Department of Children and Families (DCF) was in need of assistance dueto the high volume of families inneed. Share Your Heart adopted the 3 DCF hubs and made a commitment to supply food, clothing, supplies and a child-friendly room with books, and toys. The need was greater . DCF requested for more assistance for the families in need. This is why the 16 hour Volunteer Chaplaincy Program was created, to serve referrals, through a Memorandum of Understandingwith DCF. To date, we have over 300 trained chaplains who provide needed assistanceto the families referred by the CPI’s and API’s within 48 hours.

We created a child friendly environment for the children, while the parents were being investigated. Miami was in a big recession and the need was greater.
Department of Children and Families Adult Protective Investigation requested to be added to the existing memorandum, to receive assistance, due to the lot high volume of adults needs.
The API’s recognized that the Share Your Heart Volunteer Chaplaincy Program could provide food, clothing, supplies and emotional and/or spiritual support assistance to the homes within 48 hours. This also helps the DCF adult investigation to be processed faster and for cases to be closed. Share Your Heart stays with the referral for 90 days.
DCF ACCESS TRAINING’s
The Economic Self-sufficiency specialists (ESSs) of the Department are responsible for determining eligibility for public assistance programs including Food Stamps, Temporary Assistance for needy Families (TANF) and Medicaid to help them become self-sufficient.
Share Your Heart Chaplaincy Program trains the faith-based organizations to become access centers.
It’s all about our Volunteer Chaplains. No matter what race, religion, age or color, we stand united to help others. By serving, sharing and with loving hearts, all things are possible.
All Volunteer Chaplains must complete a 16-hour course, pass a level 2 background check, are provided with a manual, photo ID and Polo shirt with logos.

South Florida Food Insecurity: Nearly A Million Residents Don't Know Where The Next Meal's Coming From, Study SaysAlarmingly, an estimated 296,600 of those residents are children. South Florida's childhood food insecurity rate, which measures limited or uncertain access to adequate food at the household level, is just four points below the Florida average of 28.4 percent.
SUMMER FEEDING PROGRAM 2018 We served 67,000 meals
Through the Summer Feeding program we have the opportunity to assist the Faith Based Community and Summer Community Programs by signing them to become a Summer Feeding Site enabling them to provide food to the children participating in their summer programs as well as helping feed the community in need at their locations. The Pastors and Community Leaders are very pleased with this program because thousands of children are provided food for their program at no cost.
The faith-based community has a great opportunity to offer spiritual, physical and emotional support and demonstrate the love of our Lord through this program at their location. 2019 will be our 7th year with the program , serving over 60,000 meals each year to children.
