2010 is in the books and we enjoyed another incredible year of booming dance tracks from around the world.

2011 promises to be just as exciting. And I have six HOT tracks that have got me pumped up for this New Years.

Let’s get right to it…..

The Hot Six #8 (New Year’s Eve 2011 Edition)

When you listen to dance music as much as I do, it takes something unique or well-executed to catch the ear.

Dance music in all of its technology and beat per minute-measuring can become very formulaic.  It is those formulas that distinguish the various genres of dance music.  So, when a track breaks that formula and captures not just one but a FEW different genres within the same track, it will catch your attention.  

1. Raise Your Weapon – Deadmau5

That’s the case here with Deadmau5’s “Raise Your Weapon.”  It is an odd track that seems to do two or three different genres in one.  The fact that it does it well makes it a revelation.  The song starts with trance like vocals you might find in an Armin Van Buuren track, set against a chill house beat.  The song travels down this melodic road until it pulls an e-brake turn and jams the pedals towards dubstep with a Skrillex-inspired breakdown.  All the while, the vocals never fade.  This is not a traditional selection for The Hot Six.  But, it is still worthwhile.
