INTERVIEW WITH BISHOP MCDEVITT’S NOAH SPENCE
J. Cleezy : Your team was down 21-3 at one point last week to Erie Prep.
Was there any doubt in your mind about your team’s ability to come
back from that deficit?
N. Spence: There was never a doubt in my mind I knew my team had it
in them it was just if we were focus enough and wanted it enough to go
get it.
J. Cleezy: We won’t get into recruiting, but most people know that you
are one of the best defensive ends in the country. How have you been
able to deal with the different blocking schemes that opposing teams
have tried using against you?
N. Spence: Well, I just watch a lot of film, go out there, and tell myself
that I can’t be blocked.
J. Cleezy : What are some of the things that your team will need to do
in order to win against Allentown Central Catholic this week?
N. Spence : Focus and stop anything that comes to us.
INTERVIEW WITH ALLENTOWN CENTRAL CATHOLIC’S RAYMOND
OCASIO
J. Cleezy: How satisfying was it to get a win over one of the best teams not only in
the Philly Catholic league, but in the state?
R. Ocasio: It felt like a heavy weight was lifted off are backs. We were so excited
for that game. They were a strong, physical team and we were trying to not only
win another week of practice, but to advance to the state championships.
J. Cleezy: our team is favored to win this week against Bishop McDevitt…what
have your coaches told you this week in regards to not taking Bishop McDevitt
lightly?
R. Ocasio: Our coaches have been telling us every week since state playoffs
started that any team that has made it this far is a good team. McDevitt has a lot
of good players and we are going to continue to prep for them like every other
team we have faced thus far.
J. Cleezy: What are some of the things that your team will need to do in order to
win against Allentown Central Catholic this week?
R. Ocasio: Our team will need to force their offense into third and longs and other
favorable positions for our defense. Most importantly, we need to continue doing
the things that we have done all season. We will need to keep on making big
plays.
INTERVIEW WITH BISHOP MCDEVITT’S MATT JOHNSON
J. Cleezy: As someone who has watched every single game you’ve played..I have to know..how satisfying
is it to reach the PIAA AAA Finals?
M. Johnson: Well it feels long overdue since last year’s heartbreaker... but I’m so happy that we got the
job done this year! Everyone stayed together and believed in each other to get the job done.
J. Cleezy: Your team was down 21-3 at one point last week to Erie Prep. Was there any doubt in your
mind about your team’s ability to come back from that deficit?
M. Johnson: There was no doubt in my mind, because most of the drives we had in the first half, we
were moving the ball. Then we would stop ourselves. We just needed to cut out the mistakes and play
the way we knew how.
J. Cleezy: After two losses earlier in the season, how was your team able to turn things around?
M. Johnson: We practiced harder and realized that on any given day, any team can be beaten. We
started to become more of a family and mature. The offensive line started playing better and the
receivers and I started to get timing down. Plus, the defense turned out the lights on every offense we
played.
J. Cleezy: You’re one of the best, if not the best QB in Pennsylvania (my opinion folks). So..how does it
feel to be playing against another QB that people feel is also one of the best (if not the best) , especially
in a game of this magnitude?
M. Johnson: Well he is a great player and has done some great things. When the bright lights are on
both of us Friday night, we'll see who plays like a champion. Plus, he hasn't faced a defense with speed
like we will bring to Hershey.
J. Cleezy: What are some of the things your team will need to do in order to win this week?
M. Johnson: We need to stay together through the good and the bad. I think if we stay together and cut
out turnovers and stupid penalties we will be fine. Even though this is our first state championship, we
have to play like we've been there before.
INTERVIEW WITH WEST CATHOLIC’S TRISTIN FREEMAN
Tristin Freeman – West Catholic
J. Cleezy : Have you met your expectations for the season individually and team
wise?
T. Freeman: Yes and no bEcause I wanted to have 100 tackles and 10 sacks this
season, but I also wanted to make it to the State Championship game.
J. Cleezy: Were you surprised at how “close” the game was last week against
Lewisburg?
T. Freeman: No. I wasn't surprised because our coach said they were a scrappy
team so we were prepared for anything. Plus, it is the State Playoffs and
anything can happen.
J. Cleezy: It’s West Catholic’s 2nd trip to the PIAA AA Championship game in the
last two years. How important would it be for WC to get Philly it’s first state title
in Class AA?
T. Freeman: For us, we are not really focusing on that. We are just focused on
being prepared mentally and physically for this game. After we get the win , then I
will be able to answer that question.
J. Cleezy: What are some of the things that your team will need to do to get the
win this week?
T. Freeman: To win this week we need to get pressure on the quarterback
because they like to throw the ball a lot. We are hoping we will be able to get
that quick pressure and use our speed to get to the quarterback so we can make
him throw the ball earlier than he wants too
