space for sub head
Since we began producing pole elastic over 15 years
ago there have been many changes in shing styles
and the venues, and sh anglers now regularly
encounter has changed greatly. When we first started producing elastic
there was only one type available and
it was restricted to a maximum of
number 8 we now have no less than five
different types all available in the much
heavier strains required by the modern
match angler.
We have no less than three sorts of standard
Solid elastics, Flouro and Original Slip which
have a colour coding system and the natural
creamy coloured latex Solid elastics are ideally
suited to most match fishing situations with
there controlled stretch its easy to adjust them
depending on the requirements of a particular peg
be it catching roach on fine number two or play ing
hard fighting carp.Solid elastics are the first choice of many of
our anglers when it comes to choosing a shock
absorber for catching bags of small f ish and
at the other end of the scale many still carry a kit
fitted with tight 16 for those days when you really
need to boss fish away from snags on heav y gear.
Since the popularity of carp f ishing anglers have
been looking for an edge to help them land fish
quicker, when Hollow elastics came along they
soon caught on to the fact that the increased
stretch offered allowed them to fish small hooks
with less danger of pulling out, but these soft
elastics presented a new problem.
In some instances they where too soft this is
when the advent of the pulla kit / bung changed
the way many anglers fished small hooks and
light elastics could be used allowing f ish to make
there initial runs with the benefit light elastics and
the when fish are ready to be netted allowing the
tightening of the elastic making nett ing fish on a
top kit easy.
Des Shipp explains the advantages of doubled
elastic, To get the best of both world anglers
have now started to double up light solid elastics
such as 4 and 5 this gives the benefits of soft
set elastic for the fishes initial run but steadily
increases the pressure as the hooked fish runs,
I suppose you could say a doubled 4 would giveyou an 8 although this is not strictly true as the
way in which the pressure is applied is different
and seams to subdue fish more quickly.
Previously threading double elastic had been its
main draw back but the addition of Preston Double
Elastic makes threading this type of set up as
simple as using any single strand elastic just thread
it normally and then separate to give you double
elastic but with out the associated headaches.
We like to think that by giving such a wide range
of elastics there is something to suit every
situation you are likely to encounter.

Make sure yourelastic works properlyTo play carp correctly, with large diameter elastics
over size 10, or Hollo, you need to cut your pole tip
back (sometimes quite a lot) or remove the number
1 section completely. Whichever you choose to do
you must make sure the tip doesnt bend too much.
If it does the elastic will stick to the inside of the
top section and not work properly.
How far you cut back the tip may determine which type of bush
you can fit. If you cut it back a long way to make it ultra stiff,
the internal diameter of the tip may be too large to fit a standard
internal bush. In this case use an XLarge Internal Bush or a Slip
Stretch external bush.
Many top anglers remove the number one section and fit an
internal or external Stretch Slip Bush s traight onto their number
2 section. This produces an ultra stiff tip and guarantees smooth
elastic performance.
Cut back your pole tip to match the size
of the bush using a fine tooth blade. se
sandpaper to remove any sharp edges.
Check that the bush fits snugly and then
smear a small amount of Araldite onto the
outside of the bush and push in.
Push the uncut bung into the end of your
section. Mark and cut two ribs smaller.
Tie on your connector using an overhand
loop. First thread the elastic through the
sleeve and the hole in the connector...
... double over the elastic and tie the
overhand loop. Moisten the elastic and gently
tighten the knot down to the connector.

Recommended Elastic Set-ups
Fitting a Pulla bung
Elasticating a Top Kit The Pulla Bung needsto fit closely to the endof the section so that
the tube sticks out. Firstpush it in as far as it
will go.
Keep your nail on the
bung and take it out.
Mark where this is. It is
important that you are
accurate.
Cut through the bung
one rib bigger than you
think you need. ou
can then trim one rib
at a time to achieve a
perfect fit.
Attach your connector
to the other end of the
elastic (see page 58)
and thread the elastic
through the top kit and
Pulla Bung.
Thread the elastic
through the base sleeve
and tie a knot. If you
need more tension push
the sleeve up and tie
another knot.
The Preston Pulla Bung is a brilliant
way of landing hard-fighting fish more
quickly than on a conventional elastic
set-up. This is especially true for bonus
fish that are bigger than expected.
The first thing to say is that you still play the fish as
you would normally, its only when you unship your
top kit that the Pulla Bung really comes into play.
From that moment on, you have the option of
increasing the tension on the elastic by pulling
some of it through the bung and holding it in the
fingers of the hand holding the pole. By pulling
some of the elastic through the bung you shorten
the length of elastic still in the top kit. This
reduces the distance the fish can swim away
from you and makes netting much easier.
But it isnt just playing bonus fish quickly that
makes the Pulla Bung so useful. You can also
reduce the strength of your elastic slightly, or set
it with less tension, which leads to less bumped
fish, especially when fishing up in the water.
Most of Prestons consultants reduce the strength
of their elastic by one size. Instead of a number 12
solid elastic they use a number 10. For Hollo instead
of a size 13 they reduce the elastic to a size 11.
Great For Hollo
The Pulla Bung is also brilliant for Hollo elastics
because they are usually more easily stretched
and being able to shorten the amount available
beats fish really quickly.
Still not convinced? The next time you hook a
bigger than expected fish and are trying t o net it
on a top 4 or 5, think about how easy it would be
if you had a top 2 in your hand wit h less elastic
stretching out!
Fitting a Pulla Bung is simple and easy to
do. In fact if you normally elasticate your
top kits youll be able to t a Pulla Bung.
Heres how to elasticate your top kitusing an internal bush and Stora Bung.
Thread the elastic through your top kit and
attach to a Stora bung. Wind some additional
elastic on the winder to enable you to adjust
the tension later on.

slipnaturallatexelastic
This high quality pure latex is sized in both diameter
and numbers to enable the angler to make an
informed comparison. Supplied on five metre
spools, this elastic has a super smooth surface and
consistent stretch to give the ultimate performance
and reduce the number of lost fish.
doubleelastic
This Double Elastic has been developed to make the
threading of the popular Double Elastic system as easy as
threading single strands. Once threaded, the strands can be
easily separated resulting in perfectly fitt ed double elastic.
Available in four sizes covering a range of diameters: D4
0.85mm, D5 0.91mm, D6 1.06mm and D8 1.25mm
fluoroslipelastic
Fluoro Slip Elastic is produced from
pure latex combined with special
fluorescent pigments that do not
affect its strength or performance.
Available in 10 strengths, on five
metre spools.
original
slipelastic
Slip Elastic was the first colour
coded elastic available and is still
incredibly popular. Pre-treated
with Preston Slip lubricant to give
outstanding abrasion resistance
and reliability it is available in five
metre lengths from ultra fine size 2
up to a powerful 16.
holloelastic
Using the highest quality materials and made to the st rictest quality
standards, results in trouble-free, consistent performance.
Available in six different strengths to suit all carp fishing situations from 9H
up to a very powerful 19H. Thoroughly tested by our consultants, Hollo Elastic
comes in 3m lengths in a sealed bag that ensures it stays in perfect condition.
The ratings correspond to normal elastic ratings, so a 13H rating is between
12 and 14 normal elastic strength.
Due to a special manufacturing process, injecting lubricant inside the elastic is
not required.
holloptfebush
Made from PTFE, the Hollo Bush
provides maximum performance
when used with all hollow elastics.
Designed to fit all power kit
tops, the wide diameter ensures
elastic is released smoothly.
They can also be used directly on
match number 2 sections. The
tapered rear of the bush prevents
unnecessary tangles.
xlargeinternalslip
bush
Designed to fit internally into the
number 2 section of match kits, or
wide bore power kits.
slipbushinternal
Designed to fit inside the pole, the
Slip Internal Bush is made from PTFE
for friction-free performance. The
small shoulder fits neatly to the end
of the pole and the internal section
is strong to make fitting easy.
stretchslipbush
external
Designed for strong elastics, the
Slip Stretch Bush has a thin walled
construction that can be stretched
to fit externally over a number 2
section. slipptfebush
external
Manufactured from pure PTFE,
these external bushes are shaped
to minimise the chance of line
catching the back of the bush.
slipconnectors
Manufactured to micro
tolerances to ensure a
perfect secure fit throughout
their life. Colour coded to
match Slip Elastic, Slip
Connectors are available
in two different sizes. Slip
Micro is perfect for light and
medium strength elastics
up to a size 8 whilst the Slip
Carp size will accommodate
size 6 and above.
slipextreMe&extra
connectors
Slip Extreme Connectors are
similar to Preston Slip Connectors
but have an almost fluorescent
colour. Available in four different
colours the Micro Extreme
Connector is designed for elastics
up to size 6. The Extra Carp are
ultra strong and suitable for all
strong elastics.
holloconnectors
Colour coded to match Hollo
Elastic and made from ultra
strong moulded plastic, these
large connectors are designed
for all hollow and large size solid
elastics. A snap fit on t he sliding
collar ensures security.
Megastorabung
Designed to be used with Hollo elastics or heavy solid elastic the Mega
Stora Bung features a large winder which allows adjustments to be made by
simply removing the bung and winding elastic on, or off, the bung winder.
Manufactured from lightweight plastic, the Mega Stora Bung can be
easily cut to fit most top kits by following score lines around the
coned part.
Available in either a Mega Stora Bung twin pack
or as a single bung with an E xtractor Rod.
storabungs
Midi Stora Bungs are designed to
fit most number 2 sections whilst
the larger Maxi Stora Bungs fit
most number 3 sections or power
number 2 kits. Both can be easily
cut back to suit different diameter
top kit sections. Both lightweight
bungs feature a winder that holds
spare elastic making adjustment
of elastic tension quick and easy.
Available in pairs and singles
with an extractor rod, additional
extractor rods are now also
available in packs of two.
pullabung
Manufactured from lightweight plastic the
Pulla Bung enables the angler to pull the elastic
tighter after unshipping the top kit.
The advantage is that you can use lighter elastics
for small carp, but tighten it f or netting if you hook
a bonus fish. This means you dont need to play and
net big carp on top 5s or 6s, which leads to better
control, faster netting and less pole breakages.
sliplubricant
Slip Elastic Lubricant is the perfect
lubricant for all Preston pole elastics.
The thin liquid adheres to the elastic
to form an ultra fine film that ensures
smooth elastic performance.
Available in 14ml and 50ml.
diaMondeyethreader
Designed with a diamond shaped
eye that grips the elastic, the
Preston Threader is available in an
extra long length (2.1m) for long
top twos.
Quick
slipbungs
The Quick Slip Bung comprises a
robust, very lightweight bung and a
detachable metal extractor rod that
works on a simple hook principle. Once
in position, the bung does not hinder
the putting together of pole sections. To
remove simply locate the extractor rod into
the bung and remove the bung.
Available in both Midi and Big sizes to suit
sections 1, 2, 3 and 4.
