guidelinesWhen arriving for swim lessons, parents should bring their child to the assigned area for their lesson. Parents are then asked to wait and observe from the pool deck or balcony until the lesson is completed. This policy is to enhance the student/instructor relationship. There will be times during lessons when parents are able to observe the progress of their child’s swimming abilities more closely and take pictures if so desired. Instructors will notify parents of these times.

Class level desCriPtions

Parent and Child aquatics, level 1 and level 2Children age 6 months to 3 years old. An adult must accompany each child in the water for each lesson.

This class introduces basic skills to parents and children. Parents are taught to safely work with their child in the water, including how to appropriately support and hold their child in the water and how to prepare and encour-age their child to participate fully and try the skills. Several water safety topics are also introduced and directed to parents. Children are introduced to basic skills that lay a foundation to help them learn to swim in the future.

ameriCan red Cross learn-to-swim

level 1 - introduction to water skillsThere are no prerequisites for this level. The objectives of Level 1 are to learn basic personal water safety information and skills, to help participants feel comfortable in the water and to enjoy the water safely. In Level 1, participants

Page 10: 2010 Recreation Calendar

9

learn elementary aquatic skills, which they build on as they progress through the six Leran-To-Swim levels. At this level, participants begin developing good attitudes about swimming and water safety, good swimming habits and safe practices in and around the water.

level 2 - fundamental aquatics skillsParticipants entering this course must have a Level 1 certificate or must be able to demonstrate all the completion requirements of Level 1. The objective of Level 2 is to give participants success with fundamental skills. Partici-pants learn to float without support and to recover to a vertical position. This level marks the beginning of true locomotion skills. Participants continue to explore simultaneous and alternating arm and leg actions on the front and back to lay the foundation for future strokes.

level 3 - stroke developmentParticipants entering this course must have a Level 2 certificate or must be able to demonstrate all the completion requirements in Level 2. The objectives of Level 3 are for participants to learn the survival float, the elementary backstroke and to coordinate the front crawl. They are introduced to the scissors kick and the dolphin kick and build on the fundamentals of treading water. Participants also learn rules for headfirst entries and begin to learn to enter the water headfirst from the side of the pool (if the water is 9 feet deep or deeper).

level 4 - stroke improvementParticipants entering this course must have a Level 3 certificate or must be able to demonstrate all the completion requirements in Level 3. The objectives of Level 4 are to develop confidence in strokes learned thus far and to improve other aquatic skills. Participants improve their skills and increase their endurance by swimming familiar strokes (front crawl, elementary backstroke) for greater distances. Students also continue to build upon the scis-sors kick and dolphin kick by adding the arms for sidestroke and butterfly. The back crawl and the breaststroke are introduced in Level 4, as well as the basics of turning at a wall.

level 5 - stroke refinementParticipants entering this course must have a Level 4 certificate or must be able to demonstrate all the completion requirements in Level 4. The objectives of Level 5 are to coordinate and refine strokes. Participants refine their performance of all the strokes (front crawl, back crawl, butterfly, breaststroke, elementary backstroke and sidestroke) and increase their distances. Flip turns on the front and back are also introduced.

level 6 - swimming and skill ProficiencyParticipants entering this course must have a Level 5 certificate or must be able to demonstrate all the comple-tion requirements in Level 5. The objectives of Level 6 are to refine strokes so students swim them with more ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances. Levle 6 is designed wit h”menu” options - Personal Water Safety, Fundamentals of Diving and Fitness Swimmer. These options focus on preparing participants for more advanced courses, such as Water Safety Instructor, or other aquatic activities, such as competitive swimming or diving.

Programsswim teamCompetitive swim training will be provided throughout the summer for Pool Club Members to assist participants in developing stroke skills and endurance. Swimmers will have the opportunity to participate in swim meets against other private communities and local teams. In addition, special events and team fieldtrips will be offered. Releasing these species not only increases reproduction, but allows them to provide you sport another day.

Don’t let them flop around on the ground, dock, or boat bottom.Don’t throw them into the water.Don’t handle them with dry hands.Don’t rip hooks out of their mouths.Don’t squeeze them tightly.Don’t grab bass around the middle or through the gills.

Do release them as soon as possible.Do slide the fish gently into the water and if they are stressed, lead them head first through the water until they recover.Do keep them in the water as much as possible.Do remove hooks carefully.Do immobilize bass by holding them at the center of the jaw with thumb and fore-finger.

DisCiPLiNe PoLiCY The philosophies of our programs are based on mutual respect being shown for and between all members and staff. We relate to children on an individual basis. Rules, expectations and consequences will be made known to all children upon entry into the program.

Should a discipline problem arise our first actions are to guide or redirect that individual to better behavior and give a verbal warning. Methods such as “time-outs” or cool down periods will be used to help relive these situations. If the young member continues to act inappropriately, the parent/guardian will be notified and documentation of the behavior past and present will begin. If these steps do not correct the problem, the parent/guardian, child, counselor and/or manager will meet to discuss corrective procedures. Should this process prove unsuccessful, the young member may be dismissed from the program and possibly unable to participate for a determined time period. Under no circum-stance will physical attacks be allowed, young members who are physically harmful to staff or other participants will be dismissed from the program.

Lake Naomi - TimbeR TRaiLs shuTTLe bus seRViCe

Please note: The Shuttle Bus Stops and Times discussed in this publication are based on the RED Shuttle Bus Route. Due to much expansion here at Lake Naomi Club, we now have three different shuttle bus routes:

The green and yellow routes run during the day for Kids Klub, Afternoon Klub and Kub Klub (these routes, stops and times can be found in the Kids Klub/Afternoon Klub and Kub Klub brochures).

The red route runs for Night Rec., Pre-Teen and Teen Outings, other Special Events and drop-off for Kids Klub Field Trips.

1. The Lake Naomi Club Shuttle Bus Service is for participants utilizing the above programs only.

2. The Red Shuttle Bus is based on a one hour run, therefore for any given program, the Shuttle Bus will begin its route one hour prior to the program starting.

for example: If your stop is Conestoga and Long Rifle Road, and the trip you are going on meets at the Community Center at 5:30 PM, you can be expected to be picked up at 4:46 PM.

Please note: Pick-up times will always remain the same (the 1 hour before an event/program/trip); however drop off times will vary according to how many children are riding the bus.

for example: If drop off is scheduled to be one hour after the dance from 10:30 - 11:30 PM, but there are only three children on the bus to be dropped off, the bus driver will go immediately to these three stops and not do the entire route in succession (which takes the whole 1 hour).

faQ: How will I know which bus route is being run when all the busses look the same?

answer: When the Red Shuttle Bus Route is the one taking place, there will be red markings on the front window, back window and side windows of the bus.

3. All times listed on the schedule are approximate times, kindly allow five to ten minutes either way.

4. The Shuttle Bus will be happy to pick any kids (utilizing the above programs) up between the stops listed anywhere along the route provided the bus can make a safe pick up. Just flag the bus down.

5. The Shuttle Bus is not a school bus - other drivers are not required by law to stop for it. Please instruct your children not to cross the street when they see the bus until the driver signals them to do so.

6. There is no charge for the use of the Shuttle Bus Service.

7. The shuttle bus service is a privilege. Anyone endangering the safety of the bus driver or other children on the bus will not be allowed to use this service.
