LESSON OUTCOME At the end of the lesson the learner
should be able to: Identify and explain fractions Solve problems of fractions Be able to apply fractions in real world

What are fractions?
A fraction is the ratio of two whole numbers, or to put it simply, one whole number divided by another whole number. We write a fraction like this ¾
![Page 4: 201038132 zamokwakhe ximba](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022070318/5578498ed8b42a2f6a8b47ed/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
Fractions cont…. The top part of the fraction is called the numerator
and is also referred to as the dividend of the fraction. The bottom part is called the denominator and is also referred to as the divisor of the fraction.
Normally the numerator (top of fraction) is smaller than the denominator (bottom of fraction) in which case the fraction is called a 'Proper Fraction'. If the numerator (top) is equal to or larger than the denominator (bottom) then the fraction is called an 'Improper Fraction'.

EXAMPLE If a learner gets a ten out of 100 in a
test it can be written as 10/100 That is the same as 1/10 50% = 50/100 =1/2

APPLICATION OF FRACTIONS IN THE REAL WORLD Five out of sixteen families in the
Argentina own Penguins. What percent of families own Penguins?
1st: Write as a fraction. 2nd: Divide the numerator by the
