Perth Criterium Series
KD Cycles had a team entered in
the series. Andrew Simpson, Dave
Burgland, Nathan Lyons and
Daniel Gray. Also from the Peelcycling club racing were Matt
Upton Troy Coultard and Phil
Disel.
Matt Upton had a fantastic series
finishing top 10 in every race giving
him a very high overall placing for
the series.
Andrew Simpson took second at
the first race in Northbridge,
crashed out on the last lap of
Victoria park, 8th at Leederville
and crashed out in Fremantle
breaking his forks and unable to
finish the race.
The racing at all events was
extremely hard and fast, so hard
that not everyone finished all
races due to the pace of the
leading bunch.
65 started at Northbridge and only
20 finished, I finished at the back of the bunch and no matter how
much everybody cheered me on I
simply couldn’t close the gap to the
front group. It was a sprint out of
every corner, ride every straight asfast as you can and brake as hard
as you can going into every corner.
We were lapping at about 1:15min
with lots and lots of corners. Matt
and Andrew rode like
powerhouses to be at the front of
the race setting the pace and
attacking at all of the races. Check
out the photos on the following
pages for photographic evidence
that everyone was well and truly
‘feeling the burn’!
Here is a snippet from Dan’s heart
rate data from the Northbridge
race.
Keep in mind his calculated
maximum heart rate is 180bpm
Duration 41.15 mins
Number of heart beats 7357
Max heart rate 188
Average heart rate 178
Energy Expenditure 734 cals
Average speed 39.1km/hr
Distaance 27.0km
Backing theses figures up for 4
nights in a row is no small effort.Top work guys!
Karri Cup
March long weekend saw over 300
people head down to Northcliffe in
our states south west karri forrest
to compete in the annual Karri
Cup. Participants can choose
either a 25km, 50km, or gruelling
100km of hardcore mountain
biking.
6 braves souls made the trek south
to tackle 100km of painful uphills
and dangerous descents. Daniel
Gray, Steve Dodd, Adam Wise,
Colin Rose, Andrew Simpson,
Luke Sexton and Andy Joyce.
Stand out results from Daniel
finishing in a lighting fast 4:56:00
and Adam Wise not far off the
pace with a 5:10:00 line time. The
weekend was really well organised
and everyone who competed raved
about the quality of the race.
Shoutout to Steve Dodd for the
post race beers (courtesy of losing
a bet placed with Daniel)

Nobody likes a stenchy cycling kit, but how do you decypher all the manufactures jargon telling you to use a very
expensive, highly specific detergent to clean your treasured nix with??
Well, grab a pen and paper here’s some super simple tips to keep those badboys like new for longer.
Firstly, If you arrive home from a good solid session of sweating and you clothes are soaked, get them in the wash stat. If
you can’t put them in the wash for some reason, hang them out in fresh air. Cycling kit, covered in sweat and damp as
well is a party for bacteria and all kinds of smelly stuff. Sweat also contains high levels of salts and will damage thesynthetic materials of your kit. The more time your kit spends covered in sweat (sweat hours) the faster the material will
lose its feel and elasticity.
Now, when washing your prized cycling kit always double check the manufactures specific instructions. Materials used in
cycle clothing are constantly changing and the washing instructions are likely to change with it. But here are some general
tips to get you on your way:
1. Use a cold wash – this ensures that none of the colours will run and turn your socks a ghastly shade of pink. Heat
treatment is also often used in the production of technical fabrics so hot washes are not recommended.
2. Gentle machine wash will usually do the trick for your dirties if you have just been out on the road. For all of the
mountain bikers out there, you may need to try the regular wash cycle (this will help to take out the extra kilo of
dirt you hide in your jersey after a ride).
3. Fragranced or detergents with added fabric softener are not recommended. These additives may interfere withthe properties of the technical fibers.
4. Throwing all your cycling kit (including gloves) in the wash is fine all together, just make sure that all zippers and
velcro are zipped up or closed. These will cause damage to your other clothing if left open.
5. If you intend on throwing all your cycling kit in the wash with the weekly load use a delicates bag. This will
protect your precious team kit becoming stretched or damaged by the myriad of other clothes in the machine.
6. Line drying is fine, but not in full sunlight. Personally I find rack drying in the shade the easiest. Synthetic fibres
shouldn’t be put in the dryer (unless you want to scrape their melted remains off the inside of the dryer) or
ironed either.
7. Over time you may find that your chamois might start to lose its ‘showroom fresh’ feel. This is going to happen
regardless as all things deteriorate with age and use. But there are products available to help keep this puppy a bit
softer. We are currently stocking a good range of chamois creams which help to keep your chamois soft and your
bum happy. Come and down and pick our brains if your clothes are giving you grief as there are heaps of options
and alternatives out there.
This month’s feature is on cleaning of your cycle clothing. If you have a particular query or something you wish to be
featured in this section, drop us a email with your suggestion or come down to the shop and let us know!
