welcomeHello and welcome to James Madison University! As both an alumnus and a head
coach for JMU Swimming and Diving, I am proud to show you everything our university has to offer. While this recruiting guide is a perfect way to begin your search of JMU, make sure to also visit us online at www.jmusports.com and www.jmu.edu.
James Madison University has been recognized with nationally-ranked areas of study, great undergraduate programs, a beautiful campus and a dynamic student body. Additionally our athletic depart-ment is dedicated to building strong student-athletes. We take great pride in our academic and athletic accomplishments. As we continue to build the swimming and diving program toward a championship, we also maintain a standard of scholarly excellence in
consistently earning Academic All-America status.
As you begin to get a glimpse of JMU swimming and diving you will find a true team atmosphere. This cohesive, motivated group is committed to reaching the next level of competition as one unit. Our team of swimmers, divers, coaches and support staff all play a part in creating a motivating atmosphere where we can compete and excel every day! Over the years, JMU has earned six CAA team championships and boasts 21 in-dividual champions. In 2011 alone, the swimming and diving family had 15 record-breaking performances and placed second in the CAA championship meet. JMU had eight athletes earn All-CAA honors, seven athletes earn NCAA standards and we also sent our first diver to the NCAA championship meet! It is our goal to build on JMU’s tradition of success in the Colonial Athletic Association.

Allison Keel held the JMU record in the 50 freestyle and the 100 and 200 . She won a pair of CAA titles in 2006 in the 100 and 200 free races .
Between her sophomore and senior seasons spanning 2007-10, P .J . Naber set four individual and five relay school records as a sprint freestyler .
Marcy Lipp won JMU’s first championship in the 1,650 freestyle, claiming the gold in 1992 .
Amanda Kuehl set the six-dive school record in the three-meter dive and won three CAA championships between the 1995 and 1996 seasons .

Wendy Bryant won consecutive CAA golds in the 200-yard backstroke in 1995 and 1996 . She was also a member of seven championship relays .
Cindy Walker was the CAA Swimmer of the Year in 1993 and Outstanding Meet Performer in 1992 and 1993 . She won 14 combined individual and relay gold medals in the CAA .
Lottie Swanson claimed nine CAA titles in her career and set a pair of records that stood from the early 1990s until 2008 .
Erin McDonnell earned five individual and nine relay gold medals at the CAA championshps from 1991 to 1994 .

Mary Sink won the one-meter dive in the CAA in 1992 and later served as JMU’s diving coach .
Jenny Simmons won five CAA relay races in 1992 and 1993 . Her 1992 400-yard freestyle relay squad held the record until 2008 .
As a junior, Jessie Everett set new school records in both the six-dive one-meter and three-meter events .
As a sophomore in 2010-11, Kim Helfrich became the first member of the JMU Swimming and Diving team to qualify for the NCAA Championships . She finished 24th nationally in the one-meter dive and 28th in the three-meter dive .
