Who uses Broda Chairs?

Known for their stability, durability and comfort, Broda chairs are specifi cally designed for patients who suff er from skin conditions, fall risks, multiple sclero-sis, Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s Chorea, kyphosis, contractures and brain & neck injuries.

Skin BreakdownFor individuals at risk of skin breakdown, the Broda Comfort Tension Seating™ sys-tem is the key to providing a comfortable, functional chair.

Each strap of the system conforms individually to the person’s body, thus suspending weight across multiple points and greatly reduces the amount of pressure on a person’s body (especially peak pressures). It also allows for superior airfl ow and circulation, reducing and dispers-ing heat and moisture buildup that often leads to skin breakdown.

Fall RisksThe infi nitely adjustable tilt in space feature on our chairs, along with back recline on some models, helps properly and comfortably position the resident to assist with fall prevention without the use of restraints.

All Broda chairs are an excellent fi t for No-Fall programs within facilities for ambulatory or non-ambulatory residents.

Since 1981, Broda has been providing chairs for long term care. Our chairs help to improve quality of life as well as help to ease the burden on caregivers.

Chairs Adapt To Patients Needs

Seating ChallengesIt can often be challenging to adapt an existing chair to suit a new resident or a current resident’s changing needs. Broda makes it easy and cost eff ective to make adjustments to a chair in order to make it more versatile.

Seating Dimensions: Many Broda models allow for in-fi eld adjustments of seat depth and back length (by adding extension plugs) as well as adjustable seat heights. Adjustable seat heights are especially important for those residents who are mobile and propel with their feet. For residents who are non mobile and require a footrest, the footrest on the Broda chairs allows for easy length adjustments to accommodate various leg lengths. If a narrow-er seat width is required, side reduction pads can be provided that reduce the seat width by 1” on each side.

Leg Positioning: Certain Broda models (Elite 35V, 85V, Basic 30VT and 80V) can accom-modate a Contracture Sling that helps to accommodate residents with knee contractures. The Contracture Sling can be ordered factory installed as well as non factory by switching out the standard leg rest/footrest. Should the needs of the resident change, the Contracture Sling can be switched out for the standard leg rest/footrest.

General Needs: In order to accommodate changing needs, Broda off ers various accessories that can be added to the chair to accommodate needs such as HSP Padding (for Hunting-ton’s or aggressive residents), Thigh Belt for safe positioning and fall prevention, as well as Lateral Torso Supports for positioning. Mag wheels and casters can also be swapped for one another on most Broda models as well.

TestimonialsWe were at a loss with one of our residents who has frontal lobe dementia. OT

was unable to adjust his wheelchair properly to accommodate for his trunk

lean he had been exhibiting. He had stopped walking and was discharged

from restorative. He also had stopped feeding himself. He appeared to be

in pain. We attempted to address the pain however any medication we used

caused him to have increased behaviors. We knew this was all caused by the

positioning in the wheelchair he was in. OT finally called a Broda rep and

they came up to fit the resident with a new wheelchair. Since then, the resident

has now been walking again. He is feeding himself. He smiles and laughs like

he used to. He is showing no signs of pain anymore. Thank you for producing

a great product that brings quality of life back to our residents!

We are currently using a Broda 785 for a

Huntingtons resident. We were very con-

cerned about the safety and the comfort

of the resident until we tried him in the

Broda chair. Now, he is happier and more

comfortable than we have ever seen him.

We are very pleased at how much the Bro-

a Broda Pedal Chair and a Glider. Both of

these have also helped improve the quality

of life for our residents.

Testimonials

Mr. Smith was unable to tolerate a w/c shortly following Ills arrival at ACC, and thus was

placed in a Geri Chair. It became quickly apparent that he could hardly tolerate a Geri

Chair due to severe discomfort and pain to his pressure sensitive areas. He attends dialy-

sis Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from the hours of 9:30 am to 2:00 pm. Upon return

from dialysis he is often tearful and unable to tolerate a meal before being laid down,

much less participate in any therapy services. Although, even on the days he did not

have the scheduling demands of dialysis, his comfort level and activity tolerance was

so limited, and therapy continued to have diffi culty providing him treatment anywhere

but in the bed. At that time I placed Mr. Smith in a Broda Chair. He now tolerates six to

seven hours out of bed on days he does not go to dialysis and is able to tolerate 2 to 3

hours following his return from dialysis.LeeAnne Tacker, OTR/LArkansas Convalescent Center

Our M.S. patient had a standard wheel chair that was

insufficient to meet his mobility needs.

Since using the Broda chair, the patient is able to move

around comfortably at the nursing home. He is able to

attend activities and it is now possible for him to go to

the dining room for meals.

The goal of Home Hospice is to give our patients the

highest level of dignity and comfort possible during their

final days. This chair has allowed our patient to have

significantly improved quality of life.
