The 563-room Shangri-La Hotel, Dalian is located in the heart of the city's booming commercial district, home of the city's top banks, restaurants and largest modern shopping mall. Only 20 minutes from Dalian International Airport and overlooking the harbour passenger terminal, the hotel offers a host of on-site food, entertainment and leisure options as well as north-east China's most comprehensive range of conference, meeting and banqueting facilities and services. ROOMS WITH A VIEW All the 563 spacious and exquisitely appointed rooms and suites of Shangri-La Hotel, Dalian command spectacular views of Dalian Harbour, a garden or city landscape. The guestrooms are amongst the best in north-east China. The hotel’s rooms and suites are divided into five categories:

Combining Western and Oriental touches in a contemporary theme, each guestroom features a marble bathroom, separate shower stall, a hand shower for the bathtub, colour television, international direct dial telephone with voice mail, refrigerator, minibar (with complimentary tea and coffee making facilities), individually controlled air conditioning and a dimmer. The king size beds measure 1.98 x 2.03 metres, and the twin beds measure 1.35 x 2.03 metres. Complimentary broadband Internet access and Wi-Fi services are available in all guestrooms.

Shangri-La Hotel, Dalian has four categories of suites. There are 12 Executive Suites, 16 Horizon Club Suites, four Specialty Suites and one Presidential Suite. Beautiful murals, wallpaper and carpets set the harmonious tone for each suite’s lively decor, while elegant artwork and furniture create a comfortable residential setting. In several suites, the marble bathroom has a built-in Jacuzzi and a bidet. Located on the 28th floor, the 200-square-metre Dalian Suite (Presidential Suite) commands a stunning panorama of the harbour. Exquisite paintings and artefacts adorn the interiors. The centrepiece of the facilities on offer is the hotel's Grand Ballroom: at 1,664 square metres, it is the largest of its kind in north-east China. It has become a favourite venue for fashion shows, conventions, concerts, weddings and theme parties.

Seating more than 1,200 at banquets and with a total capacity of more than 1,800 at cocktail receptions, the ballroom has a flexible layout and staging architecture that make it perfect for the complete range of events. Options include everything from the theatrical stage to a catwalk and dance floor. Supporting the ballroom, the hotel features 15 function rooms. All the multifunctional facilities offer corporate and entertainment clients fully serviced events options. Banqueting and staffing services are tailored to customer needs. All facilities are supported by state-of-the-art multiple microphone, simultaneous interpretation and electronic projection systems.

THE HORIZON CLUB - A WORLD AT THE TOP

Shangri-La Hotel, Dalian has reserved five floors of guestrooms for the convenience and comfort of discerning travellers who demand only the best in service. Located on floors 24 to 28, the Horizon Club offers a complete range of exclusive privileges. Included amongst the services are the Club’s own pursers, discreetly on hand from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. to offer guests personal assistance and to take care of details such as restaurant reservations, airline confirmations, theatre ticket bookings, transport arrangements and golf course bookings.

Guests of the Horizon Club can also enjoy private, effortless check-in and check-out services, the services of a 24-hour information technology butler, complimentary broadband Internet access and Wi-Fi services, free pressing service, international newspapers, a choice of pillows, in-room fax upon request, use of Health Club facilities and many other services.

In the morning, guests can enjoy breakfast in the comfort and privacy of the Horizon Lounge, situated on the 25th floor. The Lounge, for the exclusive use of Horizon Floor guests, also serves complimentary cocktails and hors d’oeuvres daily from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Throughout the day, guests are served complimentary coffee or tea. One meeting room is available for guests to hold their meetings.

THE CULINARY OFFER

The theatre of food: i Café

Imagine a theatre play where the cooks perform as your personal chefs and cook every meal to meet

the requirements of your very own taste buds. This interactive dining concept, successfully launched

in key international gateway cities like Hong Kong, Singapore, Kula Lumpur, Sydney and Shanghai,

has now made its first appearance in Dalian.

i Café, warm and cosy but contemporary in decor, is the trademark of the innovative Hong Kong interior design house, Steve Leung Designers. The restaurant appeals with warm organic earth tones and textures and modern granite food cooking stations. The outdoor garden, which can be seen through the large glass facade running through the entire restaurant, will continue to add natural views and serenity to the restaurant’s ambience.

With a seating capacity of 186, i Café is located on level one. i Café opens daily from 6 a.m. to midnight and serves breakfast, lunch, dinner as well as à la carte orders. The interactive cooking-dining arena with six “action packed” cooking stations, serve local Dalian seafood, deli, noodle, stir-fried, barbecue, ice cream teppan and wonderful desserts. Together, the cooking stations create a vibrant visual impact and sense of anticipation among guests. A private dining room for 12 guests provides the perfect venue for special occasions and important business meals.

Chinese restaurant: Shang Palace

On 18 March 2011, Shang Palace at Shangri-La Hotel, Dalian reopened after completion of a US$1.55 million five-month refurbishment programme. The new Shang Palace is distinctly warmer and more sophisticated with a modern decor suitable for a bustling lifestyle. Traditional and modern Cantonese cuisine, Dalian dishes and regional food, the culinary team and service experts complement the new and vibrant Shang Palace. Designed by Wilson Associates, a worldwide renowned interior design company with its head office in New York and branches in Los Angeles, Singapore and Shanghai, the new Shang Palace is trendy while retaining its emphasis on elegance and authenticity in a traditional and modern ambience. The 168-seat Shang Palace includes eight private dining rooms named after mountains in China and

decorated in a variety of styles. Seven of the private dining rooms feature a pantry, stylish sofa, LCD television, washroom and soundproof system, providing a private and cosy space for business and family gatherings. Four of the private dining rooms feature garden views. The signature dishes showcase the essence of the talents and culinary skills of the Shang Palace’s team of chefs. The signature dishes are Huai Yang Style Boiled Bean Curd Skin, Buddha Jumps Over The Wall, Braised Pork Ribs, Deep-fried Crispy Chicken, Hot and Sour Cuttlefish Roe Soup, Home-made Noodle with Clam Meat and Kidney Bean, Sea Whelk and Beef Jelly, Steamed Dalian Sea Cucumber with Scallion, and Date Paste Cake. Named Dalian Bao in Chinese, the newly launched Dalian clay pot area has a similar Chinese name as the Dalian abalone, a famous seafood in Dalian. The Dalian clay pot area features a see-through kitchen in the restaurant. Chefs at the Dalian clay pot kitchen prepare a wide selection of nutritious clay pot cuisine with fresh and selected ingredients. Shang Palace is open from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for lunch and from 5 to 10 p.m. for dinner.

Japanese Restaurant: Nishimura

Jointly operated with Nishimura Franchise Limited, the restaurant provides diners with all the open-plan food preparation and exquisite presentation that is expected of the finest in Japanese cuisine. In traditional style, the cuisine you choose comes with a seating arrangement and spectacle to match. It is an interactive dining experience. Taking pride of place is the robatayaki counter, allowing diners to choose from the fresh seafood, meat and vegetables grilled in front of them, and offering traditional specialities like kamamese (rice hot pot). In addition to à la carte, set menus are available for lunch and dinner.

The eat as you watch tradition is also evidenced at the sushi counter, where our nimble-fingered Japanese chefs prepare and slice the freshest local seafood, fish and imported tuna to make the best sashimi in the city. For private pleasure or business entertainment, the restaurant features separately housed teppanyaki counters, and the traditional floor-seated layout of two exclusive tatami rooms.

Seating 98 guests, the stylish outlet is located on level two and is open from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and from 5:30 to 10 p.m. daily.

The natural place to meet: Lobby Lounge Designed by Wilson Associates, a renowned interior design company with its head office in New York and branches in Los Angeles, Singapore and Shanghai, the new Lobby Lounge relaunched in July 2011 is trendy while retaining an emphasis on elegance and authenticity with a traditional and modern ambience.

The Lobby Lounge, which seats up to 100 guests, is decorated with imported chandeliers and floral fabric carpet. It features floor-to-ceiling windows offering panoramic views of the hotel’s luxuriant garden. Serving superb morning coffee, complete afternoon teas and a sophisticated array of evening cocktails, the lounge with its views over the landscape of the hotel's contemporary garden allows guests the space to take their time.

Live entertainment is available daily from 3 to 6:45 p.m. and from 7:30 p.m. to 11.15 p.m. You will be surprised by the musicians’ magnificent repertoire of music. Open from 7 a.m. to midnight.

The most chic and trendy nightclub in town: F2 Bar

Featuring live music from the city’s top band and with the resident DJ spinning the latest music, F2 Bar offers an unbeatable slice of pure entertainment. Dancing to the tune, F2 staff keep the fun alive with their cocktail-shaking performances, while bright, friendly waitresses serve up the best in “service with fun.”

F2 Bar features a uniquely designed centre island bar with a special feature – a suspended helix-like art piece that runs the length of the bar beneath the ceiling. A specially prepared wide selection of cuisines, signature cocktails and beers are complemented with a range of creative F2 snacks.

Seating 166 persons, F2 Bar is open seven days a week from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. for dinner and entertainment.

SWIMMING POOL Adjacent to the Health Club is our indoor swimming pool. The pool has a width of eight metres and a length of 20 metres, with a depth that ranges from 1.3 to 1.5 metres. It allows the leisure swimmer to relax and observe the sky through the glass roof, while the more demanding swimmer can swim laps

for a satisfying workout. In order to provide year-round swimming, the indoor pool is heated to the most soothing temperature during the winter months.

SHANGRI-LA’S COMMITMENT TO DALIAN Shangri-La strongly believes in investing in and empowering people. How people care for others today will enable them to extend themselves even more tomorrow, and pay it forward. Our hotels and resorts are working on various projects in education and health, all geared towards skills training and health care that will enable members of our communities to be productive citizens in the future. Shangri-La Hotel, Dalian collaborates with Dalian Red Cross Federation to donate and help the children who are suffering from congenital cardiopathy to receive heart operations. Established in December 2008, Shangri-La’s “Heart Fund” every year helps at least two children in Dalian. The hotel also provides children with autism who are in need at the Dalian Little Dolphin Recovery Centre with assistance ranging from financial support to life care. Shangri-La Hotel, Dalian is the only five-star international hotel to have achieved ISO 14001 certification in Dalian. The hotel has an Environmental Vision Statement, and builds environmental awareness into all job descriptions. Furthermore, the hotel has a Green Committee comprising representatives from all key departments. Headed by the resident manager, the committee’s mission is to identify ways to reduce wastage within the hotel, eradicate practices that might damage the environment and promote environmental awareness among all employees. Every colleague in the hotel is encouraged to “think green,” that is, to reassess their current working procedures and make changes to benefit the environment. From switching off appliances whenever they are not in use to photocopying memos on both sides of the paper - everyone is making a constructive contribution. Shangri-La Hotel, Dalian is committed to caring for the environment by constantly monitoring our operation and by joining in and supporting the efforts of the community as a whole. In November 2010, Shangri-La Hotel, Dalian conducted a comprehensive LED lighting system upgrading project. We are the first Shangri-La hotel within the group to implement an LED lighting system in a hotel.

INTRODUCTION TO DALIAN

Dalian – The City of Romance in China

Dalian City in Liaoning Province is located at the southernmost tip of the Liaodong Peninsula, with the Yellow Sea to the east and the Bohai Sea to the west. Neither hot in summer nor cold in winter, Dalian has an annual mean temperature of 10 degrees Celsius. One of the best tourist cities in China, Dalian has been honoured many times. It has been named a Garden City and one of the World's Top 500 Cities of Excellent Environment by the United Nations; and it is the only holder of this UN honour in China, and only the second metropolis to win such an award in Asia.

A Centre for Festivals and Tourist Activities

Dalian hosts many festivals and international activities, such as the Dalian International Sakura Festival, the Dalian International Beach Festival, the Dalian International Beer Festival, the Dalian International Fashion Festival, the Dalian International Marathon, and the Firecrackers and Fireworks to Herald the Spring. All these activities draw numerous visitors from home and abroad. In September, the Dalian International Fashion Festival features various cultural, tourist and economic activities, such as evening performances in the city’s squares, fashion shows, concerts, young fashion designers' contests and trade fairs for garments and fashion materials.

The Sea: Fresh Air and Seafood

Dalian has a coastline that is 1,900 kilometres long. With a mild climate and fresh air, it is an ideal place for seafood, sailing, fishing and enjoying the sea view. Dalian is famous for its aquatic products, and its output of abalone accounts for 60 per cent of China's total. The seawater is clean with a favourable temperature for producing salt. The proportion of salt in Dalian's sea, which is 30 per cent, makes it ideal for precious aquatic products to thrive, making them nutritious, fresh and tasty.

Golf Course

Golf courses in Dalian are famous for their breathtaking scenery, often overlooking the beautiful Bohai Bay. With the natural challenges, man-made hazards and almost distracting backdrops, a game at one of these golf courses will be sure to impress and impart a lasting memory. Japanese and Korean guests fly to Dalian on weekends, and the key purpose is to play golf here. Popular golf courses in Dalian include Dalian Golden Pebble Beach Golf Club, Dalian Xiali Golf Club, Dalian Red Flag Valley Golf Club and Dalian Bangchui Island Golf Club.

Dalian enjoys convenient transportation. More than seven flights are scheduled between Dalian and Japan every day, and the flight takes only two hours. It takes only an hour to Seoul, 3.5 hours to Hong Kong and two hours to Xian. There are 15 flights to Beijing a day, each taking 50 minutes. A plan to visit Beijing and Xian, both ancient cultural cities in China, would be perfect if it includes a visit to the modern metropolis of Dalian. A visit to these three places offers a tourist an opportunity to get to know the nation's past and present.
