In 2011 Five Points of Life Foundation established its identity as a foundation and support affiliate of LifeSouth Community Blood Centers. The goal of the foundation is to educate and raise awareness of the five ways to share life through donation. Started in 1997 with a cross-country bike ride, the scope of the organization has expanded to include educational curriculum,KidsMarathonsandanannualRaceWeekend.
A major development in 2011 was the debut of our Five Points of Life in the Classroom curriculum. The material features lessons about the science behind donation and highlights the impact donation can make in communities. The objective is to give students the information they’ll need to make an informed decision about donation by the time they reach high school.
The foundation also conducted Kids Marathons in five cities in 2011, bringingtheeventforthefirsttimetoMontgomeryandHuntsville,Ala.WeplantohostadditionalracesinAtlanta,Ga.,Mobile,Ala.andHernandoCounty,Fla.inthecomingyear.
