Fleet managers, drivers of commercial vehicles of all kinds and farmers expect functional security. This means vehicle components built to a high standard and offering a long service life. Hella beacons, optical warning systems and auxiliary lighting systems fulfill these demands. Their development and production is carried out according to the strictest quality standards. Our products are pro-duced in Germany and the USA. Hella tests their suitability for everyday life in the most demanding of test series, in the test laboratory and in field tests:

Requirements and Testing

What is the IP protective rating?IP stands for international protection. The IP protective ratings are determined in accordance with DIN 40 050, part 9. The purpose of the standard is to precisely define the electrical equipment of vehicles against the penetration of solid foreign matter, including dust, and against the penetration of water. The various important protective ratings for signal systems are explained in more detail in the following.

Protective rating IP 5K4KDust may only penetrate to such an extent that function and safety are not impaired. Water, which is sprayed against the housing from every direction at considerable pressure, may not have any damaging effects: Water pressure approx. 4 bar.

Protective rating IP 9KWater, which is sprayed against the housing during high-pressure / steam cleaning may not have any damaging effects: Water pressure approx. 80 – 100 bar.

Certification Standards: Hella Optical Warning Products are tested to comply with the following standards and regulations:

SAE: J845 (Revised Dec 2007 ) demands an increase of 50% in light output from the previous J845 spec and is the standard for most of the Hella Optical Warning products. J1318 and J845 are also used for compliance with FMVSS 108 requirements. Class I qualifies it for use on emergency vehicles, Class II on vehicles working on the side of the road and partially blocking traffic and Class III for off road vehicles.ECE: Imported products from Hella Europe are tested to comply with ECE regulation R 65 which generally perform to SAE Class I standards. CALIFORNIA TITLE 13: These regulations cover unique light angles, brightness levels, and flash rates required by the State of California. Products which comply now are marked in the catalog accordingly. On going product development and testing will provide additional qualified product and will be indicated on the product and updated in the Hella on line catalog.

A Hella Remote Controller can be connected to an existing non-

intelligent LED light (i.e. with no pre-programmed flash patterns)

or to an incandescent / halogen light bulb, to enable full compatibility

with a DOT system and 16 flash patterns.

Hella LED Warning lights which incorporate the DOT system are capable of communicating with each other and between groups

of lights without the need for a central control box. Each light head can be programmed individually and connected by sync and

power wires to the next nearest light head regardless of a different flash grouping.

• Eliminate the need for a central control box

• Individual flash patterns can be programmed per unit

• Link up to 18 units within a group and up to 4 flashing groups

Alerting, locatable, and no noise nuisance

Reversing alarms are vital for safety, yet conventional tonal (beeping) alarms can cause noise nuisance and irritation – and confusion as to the danger’s approach direction. Worse, tonal alarms may be ignored because their ‘false’ alarms are heard well outside the danger zone; People 'tune them out' due to habituation. The solution to this problem is the bbs-tek ‘white sound’ (multi-frequency) reversing alarm, which emits a unique “shh…shh…shh…” sound. Using lower sound pressure levels, the white sound alarm creates greater and more immediate listener response because it is so unlike any other man-made sound. And, uniquely, it is instantly sound-source locatable which, instead of head-spinning and confusion, triggers correct and immediate evasive action.White sound’s superior directivity beams the sound within the danger zone with reduced sideways spillage; and it dissipates faster too so it is acceptable to site-workers and local households.Multi-frequency sound provides a vital safety benefit for the hearing-impaired. Most impairment occurs only in certain frequency band(s) rather than the entire frequency spectrum. Should a hearing-impaired frequency band cover a tonal alarm’s narrow frequency band then the alarm will be unheard whereas a multi-frequency sound will still be heard in the hearing-unimpaired frequencies.

‘Power Pole’ Mounting Accessories

Get versatility with Hella power poles. Hella has developed various pole brackets to provide you with multiple mounting options. The Hella power poles come with a pre-installed socket to plug in and light up Hella beacons and work lamps. This system offers you the ability to install different devices using the same pole according to your needs.

The Hella power poles provide an easy way to remove beacons and work lamps for storage and to prevent theft. Combined with a variety of power pole options, some of the Hella beacons such as Rotaflex have flexible pole mount rubber bases which bend to 90 degrees decreasing the risk of damage to the beacon.
