The weather was supposed to be cold and rainy for the 2011 SNGA Championship. The course was supposed to be playing as difficult as ever. The scoring was supposed to be high and unattractive. Well the weather subsided and Joseph Harrison saw things differently this week, as he stormed Boulder Creek Golf Club with a bevy of bombing drives and birdies to capture his first SNGA Championship Crown and announce to the Amateur Golf World that he is here and ready to play. 2011 SNGA Championship (Continued from Page 1) Harrison Blistered the field by 12 shots when it was all settled. He ended the event as the only competi-tor in red figures. A 65 (-7) opening round would give Harrison a 2 shot lead over upstart and 2011

Clark County Amateur Champion JT Mohlman who struggled with the putter down the stretch but was still able to post a strong 67 (-5). To start the second round, Harrison would simply birdie the first 4 holes to stretch his lead. It would only get better for Harrison as both Kelly Knievel (1 over on day one) and Mohlman would struggle to keep up. Harrison would finish the second round with 67 (-5) and com-plete his performance at -12 (132). Mohlman would finish in 2nd at 144 (E) for the event. Adam Tebbs found his swing on day 2 firing a 69 (-3) and moving into a tie for 3rd with ever present John Turk who had two solid rounds of 74 (+2) and 73 (+1). In the end, no one could argue that Harrison had put together a performance that would be remembered for along time to come. Harrison plans to go to Q School this next fall and attempt to play on the highest levels. After this weekends performance, we are all confident that with some determination, Harrison will have no problem making a name for himself. In the Net Division, Keith Hogge solidified his Unofficial Net Player of the Year award with a 2 under Net Performance (142) and a victory in the SNGA's final event for 2011. Hogge defeated Joe Rada by five shots to win the event. Rada would fire a two day total of Net 147 (+3) to take second place. Russ Gard made a successful return to the Net Division shooting Net 148 (+4) and taking home 3rd place honors. Hogge lead the Player of the Year points race going into this event, and his victory caps off a great year. Frank Acker locked up Senior Scratch Player of The Year honors with his victory this week. Acker fired two rounds under par including an opening round of 67 (-5) to defeat John Turk by 4 shots. Turk finished in second as the only other competi-tor in red figures at 141 (-3). Kevin Parrish had a great tournament firing a two day total of 147 (+3) and finishing 3rd. In the Senior Net, John Silberman claimed his first victory with the SNGA firing a Net 147 (+3) and besting Rodger Reeves and Gary Lanzen by 2 shots. Reeves and Lanzen finished tied for 2nd at 149 (+5). Jim Miller also locked up the Super Senior Player of the Year honor by winning the Super Senior Scratch competition. Miller shot 153 (+9) to defeat Albert Upsher by 2 strokes. Upsher would finishe in second at 155 (+11). Though Upsher couldnt claim the victory, he was able to record a hole in one on the par 3, 145 yard 3rd hole in Fridays round. Upshers name will be submitted to the Hole in One Society for his amazing accomplishment. Ron Ramsey would finish in 3rd place at 157 (+13).

Patrick Reis found his game during the final round of the Super Senior Net competition. Reis shot Net 67 (-5) on day two to finish with a two day total of 141 (-3). This would be recorded as Reis' first victory in an SNGA event. Mike Bridges would finish in second place as the only other com-petitor in red figures at 143 (-1). Tom Khamis would finish in 3rd at 145 (+1). The SNGA would like to thank all the competitors that participated in the SNGA Championship as well as the entire 2011 Tournament Season. It has been a great year and we wouldnt be able to hold such a comprehensive schedule if it werent for the dedicated competitors. We would also like to thank the Boulder Creek Staff, they are a top notch facility and we are happy to have such a great relationship with an amazing facility. Misunderstood Rules Provided by SNGA

13-2. Improving Lie, Area of Intended Stance or Swing, or Line of Play A player must not improve or allow to be improved: the position or lie of his ball, the area of his in-tended stance or swing, his line of play or a reasonable extension of that line beyond the hole, or the area in which he is to drop or place a ball, by any of the following actions: pressing a club on the ground, moving, bending or breaking anything growing or fixed (including immovable obstructions and objects defining out of bounds), creating or eliminating irregularities of surface, removing or pressing down sand, loose soil, replaced divots or other cut turf placed in position, or removing dew, frost or water. However, the player incurs no penalty if the action occurs: in grounding the club lightly when address-ing the ball, in fairly taking his stance, in making a stroke or the backward movement of his club for a stroke and the stroke is made, in creating or eliminating irregularities of surface within the teeing ground (Rule 11-1) or in removing dew, frost or water from the teeing ground, or on the putting green in remov-ing sand and loose soil or in repairing damage (Rule 16-1). 13-3. Building Stance A player is entitled to place his feet firmly in taking his stance, but he must not build a stance.

Penalty For Breach of Rule: Match play - Loss of hole; Stroke play - Two strokes. 

Definitions:

Stance: consists in a player placing his feet in position for and preparatory to making a stroke

Stroke: the forward movement of the club made with the intention of striking at and moving the ball, but if a player checks his down-swing voluntarily before the clubhead reaches the ball he has not made a stroke.

Line of play: the direction that the player wishes his ball to take after a stroke, plus a reasonable distance on either side of the in-tended direction. The line of play extends vertically upwards from the ground, but does not extend beyond the hole

Obstructions: anything artificial, including the artificial surfaces and sides of roads and paths and manufactured ice, ex‐cept: a. Objects defining out of bounds, such as walls, fences, stakes and railings; b. Any part of an immovable artificial object that is out of bounds; and c. Any construction declared by the Committee to be an integral part of the course.  An obstruction is a movable obstruction if it may be moved without unreasonable effort, without unduly delaying play and without causing damage. Otherwise, it is an immovable obstruction.  Note: The Committee may make a Local Rule de‐claring a movable obstruction to be an immovable obstruction. Stakes identifying out of bounds are not obstructions and are deemed to be fixed. 

Addressing the ball: A player has "addressed the ball" when he has taken his stance and has also grounded his club, except that in a hazard a player has addressed the ball when he has taken his stance

A new State Champion has been crowned! Story by Janet Weber

Laurie Johnson prevailed at the 2011 Nevada State Women’s Amateur Championship held at Silverstone Golf Club, Oct24-28. With a tight race after 2 days, the weather turned ugly with steady 20-25 mph winds and 40 mph gusts in temperatures only in the 60’s. Laurie was one of very few that was able to keep their score under control! After firing rounds of 79 and 73, her 3rd round 81, was quite remarkable given the playing conditions.

This victory is Laurie’s first State Title and a wonder-ful exclamation point to her Hall of Fame induction. Those of us close to Laurie are unofficially touting 2011 as “Laurie Johnson Year.” (She also captured the Southern Nevada Amateur title in June). The Ne-vada State Women’s Net Champion is Sarah Bow-man, Senior Amateur Champion, Laurie Johnson, and the Senior Net Champion, Penny Schilling, all members of WSNGA. High School Girl Golfers Gets an Experience to Remember!

Representatives from the SNGA, WSNGA, TFTSN, High School golf coaches, & Tobi Bolton, LPGA Teaching Professional from Desert Pines Golf Club, all came together on November 20th at the amaz-ing Cascata Golf Club to team up with some very excited young ladies.

Amongst this group of talented junior golfers were the reigning Nevada State High School Champion - Alex Kaui, Regional Champion - Jamie Donizio, and 3 other top finishers at the State Championship, Hilary Pauli, Brianna Becker, & Sarah Thomas. The other girls who made up the teams are fairly new golfers from 3 participating High Schools- Valley - Sam Chambers & Jana Burd, Del Sol - Karina Perez, Tommie Martinez, & Vanessa Diaz & Desert Pines - Amelia Williams & Kenia Lopez . Every participant was treated to a delicious lunch, a raffle prize (because everyone is a winner in our eyes), and a 9 hole round of golf on the pristine course. I know the adults had a great time and I have even heard that the girls are still beaming from their incredible day at Cascata. Thank you to Eric Dutt & the Cascata staff for hosting this incredible day & giving the girls an oppor-tunity for an experience of a life time!
