2011 The mission of the Rotary Foundation is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty. The GSE program is a unique cultural and vocational exchange opportunity for men and women in the initial years of their careers. The program is designed to develop professional and leadership skills among young people to better prepare them to address the needs of their communities and an increasingly global workplace. I am glad and proud to have been entrusted with the task to lead our Swedish GSE-team of highly qualified, young GSE-Scholars during our visit to your District 9520 in Adelaide during October 2011. A corresponding GSE-team from you has been visiting us in Stockholm in May 2011. Urs Göbel Stockholm Djurgården Rotary Klubb Urs Göbel I am born in Montreux, Switzerland, by Dutch parents who had escaped Nazi-Germany. I came to Sweden when I was four. I have been Master of Ceremonies in our club for four years and have been involved in our Kenya-project for the last three years. In Nairobi we have managed to build a family centre to encourage parents to take an active part / interest in the education of their children – and at the same time learn more themselves. I live with my wife in the very heart of Stockholm. We have two grown up daughters and five grandchildren. I have been an upper-secondary language teacher but 1990 I was appointed headmaster. As such I have worked at two different upper-secondary schools in Stockholm. Together with my whole staff we were appointed an IIP- School – Investor in People. Since 1980 I have together with my team also written more than 40 textbooks published in Sweden as well as in Denmark and Norway. I am retired since 2009 but have still been asked to remain as senior headmaster and assist schools when problems arise. I am interested in literature, society. I enjoy going to the theatre or opera but also enjoy sport activities like tennis, hiking and sailing.
