What Am I Supposed to Learn from Exodus?

Exodus: I will do whatever it takes to carry out My plan.

I. “I Revealed My Power to set you free.” (Exodus 1-18)

Two themes: •Redemption, portrayed in the Passover.•Deliverance, portrayed in the Exodus from Egypt.

Exodus Plot #1: Call of Moses (Burning bush; Exodus 1-4)

Exodus Plot #2: The Plagues (Exodus 5-11)

Exodus 6:6 Therefore say to the children of Israel: “I am the Lord; I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians,

I will rescue you from their bondage, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments.”

Exodus 5:2 “Who is the Lord, that I should obey His voice to let Israel go?”

Exodus 3:19 “I know that the king of Egypt will not let you go unless a mighty hand compels him.

20So I will stretch out my hand and strike the Egyptians with all the wonders that I will perform among them. After that, he will let you go.”

Lessons:1.Pharaoh is a picture of the

stubborn heart, 2.Moses is a picture of the

entitled heart.

Exodus 12:12 “On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn—both men and animals—and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the Lord.”

THE PASSOVER:

Exodus 12:13 “The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are; and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.”

Exodus Plot #3: Parting of the Red Sea

Exodus 14:30 That day the Lord saved Israel form the hands of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians lying dead on the shore.

31When the Israelites saw the great power the Lord displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared the Lord and put their trust in him and in Moses his servant.

Lessons:1.These are the lengths I will go

to free weak/helpless people—bondage (ruler or self!)

2.I will detach you from everything that makes you hungrier for something other than Me.

II.“I revealed My Holiness —you must stay close to Me.” (Exodus 19-24)

Exodus 19:5 “If you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine.

6And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.”

Lesson:“In the laws I want you to see the weight of my Holiness.”

III. “I revealed My passionate love by moving in with you” (Exodus 25-40)

Lessons:1.Realize the lengths I’m

willing to go to be with you!2.But the relationship with Me

must be on My terms. If it isn’t you are sure to mess it up.

Exodus 32:1, 8 ...the people said to Aaron, “Come, make us gods who will go before us….. These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.”

Exodus 32:23 (Aaron) They said to me, “Make us gods who will go before us. As for this fellow Moses who brought us up out of Egypt, we don’t know what has happened to him”

Exodus 32:24 So I told them, “Whoever has any gold jewelry, take it off.” Then they gave me the gold, and I threw it into the fire, and out came this calf!”
