From Day One, Scentsy’s phenomenal success has been built upon the integrity, trust, and generosity of our Consultants— our extended Scentsy family. Our good fortune isn’t due to just one person; we have been blessed because of this amazing community that has grown around the philosophy of always giving more than you take.

We recently sent an email to let you know not all Consultants are abiding by that philosophy. Some Consultants have been using Scentsy’s name and the contacts made through it to recruit for other direct selling companies, or cross market their businesses. Not only does the practice of cross marketing hurt the Consultants who do it, but it erodes the reputation all of us have worked so hard to build and protect. It’s simply not trustworthy. Cross marketing is opportunist and unethical—it’s the opposite of contributing more than you take.

One of the first things we did as a company was apply for membership in the Direct Selling Association (DSA). Membership in the DSA involves abiding by the association’s stringent code of ethics, a code that guides some of the most successful direct selling companies in the world. It’s not easy to get into the DSA, nor should it be—membership represents a level of trust and integrity not all companies are able to deliver. When you become a Consultant for a company listed in the DSA, you know you’re working with a business with the utmost ethical standards. Our goal with the DSA has been not only to be a member, but to be an example for all other DSA companies.

The DSA—and Scentsy—have explicit policies against cross marketing, and that’s why you received that email earlier this month. The email wasn’t personally directed at any one Consultant; we are so fortunate to have tens of thousands of Consultants who live by the code of ethics every day. However, we did want to let everyone know about the dangers involved in cross marketing. I can’t overstate how seriously we take this; it’s a matter of protecting the Scentsy community and ensuring all of us are on the right track.

We are taking serious measures to counteract cross marketing, including termination of Scentsy businesses—we’re doing this to protect everyone who is not involved in unethical practices and to preserve the goodwill and good name we have built up. There is no prohibition against working for more than one direct selling organization, but there is a proper way to go about starting and running those businesses—the rules are there for a reason, and they must be followed.

We are trying to provide as much clarity as possible. If you have questions, please ask them. Resolution of these issues will make Scentsy much stronger in the end. Scentsy is going amazing places—I know it, and thousands of you know it, as well. We’re working to make sure your future is extremely bright. Thanks for all you do!

Hotel UpdateThe block of hotel rooms Scentsy reserved for the event have now sold out, but there are many more hotels in the vicinity of the Fort Worth Convention Center. Browse local hotel options online—and be sure to book a room as soon as your plans are definite.

Convention Pricing We are happy to announce that registration costs for Convention 2011 will be the same for U.S. and Canadian Consultants: $200 (USD) and $200 (CAD) for early-bird registration through April 6. After that, the cost will be $225 (USD) and $225 (CAD) until registration closes June 30.

For U.S. Consultants, this is the first time Convention registration pricing has gone up since 2005, when Scentsy held its first-ever Convention. Even though the company’s costs per person have steadily increased since then, Scentsy has continued to subsidize the event heavily to keep it affordable for as many Consultants as possible.

Events, especially Convention, are not a source of profit for Scentsy. For example, the early-bird price for Convention 2010 registration was $150 for Consultants. Scentsy’s actual cost per person was about $500, and that’s not including the value of the product giveaways.

GRAB TAB USAGE INSTRUCTIONSLike the new Grab Tabs but aren’t sure how to use them? It’s easy! The performance of the Grab Tab appears to diminish the longer it sits in heated wax of some scents. To improve the experience with the Grab Tab, follow these new instructions:

• Start with the Plug-In Warmer on and wax fully melted. • When you’re ready to change the wax, bend the Grab Tab along the perforated lines to fit the base of the warmer. • Place the Grab Tab in the dish. The Grab Tab circle will sink to the bottom of the dish, leaving only the tabs exposed. • Turn off the warmer and let the wax harden. To remove, simply take hold of

the tabs and pop out the Grab Tab and attached scent. Discard the Grab Tab and depleted wax, or save the wax if it’s still fragrant.

EXTRA LOVE, LIFE, HOPE SHIPMENT The Love, Life, Hope cause warmer to benefit breast cancer research was so popular that our supplies ran out in February, before the Spring/Summer 2011 Catalog launch on March 1. In response—because this is a cause dear to so many of us who have been touched by this disease—Scentsy made a special exception and ordered another shipment of Love, Life, Hope so our remaining February orders could be filled. This special order will take longer to fulfill because it has to ship from our manufacturer; the good news is that everyone who ordered this cause warmer will have an opportunity to enjoy it. MAKING PERFECT SCENTS™ CUSTOMER E-NEWSLETTERThe March issue of Making Perfect Scents™ (the customer e-newsletter) went out on Friday, March 4, and was delivered successfully to over 2.8 million customers.

Even though the send went very well, we have since discovered delays in the way the reporting information and statistics are updating. These reports are not populating as expected and our Information Systems team is working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. The team is also addressing the formatting and display issues some Consultants experienced to make sure they don’t recur on the next send scheduled for April 6.

NEW RECORD-BREAKING SALES DAY FEBRUARY 28Despite Workstation performance issues and a larger than usual end-of-the-month rush of orders, Scentsy Consultants still managed to set a new record for sales in a single day—more than $8 million (USD) in revenue and 6.5 million in PRV on February 28, 2011.

This blows our previous record right off the charts. On November 30, 2010, Scentsy sold over $6 million (USD).

We can’t thank you enough for your support, your team spirit, your willingness to roll with unexpected technical difficulties, and especially, your truly astonishing sales prowess.

FRAUD ALERT: RARE DIGITAL DESIGNS IPHONE APPWe just learned that a company called Rare Digital Designs has been contacting Scentsy Consultants claiming to have the approval of Scentsy’s Compliance department for their iPhone app. This is not the case. Scentsy has NOT approved any Rare Digital Design product or application, nor would Scentsy ever provide your personal contact information to any third party.

Please protect yourselves and make sure you understand all the hidden costs and fine print before getting locked into a service contract with any product or application provider. If any vendor claims to be affiliated with Scentsy or approved by Scentsy, don’t hesitate to contact [email protected] to verify their claims. And BTW, if and when we do come up with any kind of smart phone app, you will be the first to know!

SCENTSY SUCCESS WEBSITE PHASING OUTBecause Consultants now enjoy the ease of ordering Scentsy Success items through their Workstations, the separate www.scentsysuccess.com website is no longer needed. We will be turning off the site after April 30.

Order histories from www.scentsysuccess.com (prior to October 25, 2010) will be available for you to access until 11:59 p.m. (Pacific Time) on April 30, 2011. See the next page for the dates and locations of the welcome meetings Scentsy will hold in the United Kingdom and Germany. If you’d like, Scentsy can invite your contacts to these meetings via email. RECRUITING CAUTIONS We know some of you are very excited about the possibilities of growing your business in Europe. We do want to caution you not to take any steps that could be damaging to your business and to the Scentsy brand. Please keep the following guidelines in mind:

• We discourage the use of any online translating tools such as Google Translate for any of your communications. If you do use these tools, it is imperative to have someone who speaks the language proof read it to see if the meaning has changed. We have learned about situations where Consultants are using translations on their websites that do not make sense and/or that represent Scentsy in a potentially negative manner.

• Also, keep in mind that you must wait for the official launch to begin promoting Scentsy in these new markets. It is very important to create a positive brand experience and to research and follow the advertising laws and restrictions specific to each country.

• In addition, stick with your existing network of contacts. Per the Scentsy, Inc. Policies and Procedures, Section 6.3.3 (U.S. version), you may not purchase email, phone, or direct mail lists to contact people you do not know personally.

The thing that surprised and pleased me most when we began our journey with Scentsy was my instant and undeniable love of fragrance. The science and artistry involved in the creation of a scent continues to amaze me, and I’m always touched when I see an intense emotional response to a fragrance—it’s incredible to witness.

Think about your initial reaction to our new catalog fragrances. Did Mums & Marigolds transport you to a fragrant, earthy garden? Maybe you can take it a step further and recall an afternoon in the sun, digging in the dirt with your mother or grandmother, learning and laughing and avoiding stringy earthworms in the soil.

Consider Cocoa Clementine. When you brought this scent tester to your nose, did you flash back to childhood? Long summer bike rides with your friends, pedaling to the corner store for a sticky orange treat? Or maybe you remembered a commercial with a wise old owl licking a lollipop?

Your memories are unique to you. That’s why fragrance selection is so personal. Everyone reacts differently to scent, and everyone has likes and dislikes. That’s why we include 80 fragrances with each catalog—no matter your mood, style, or preference, we’re sure you’ll fall in love with one or a handful of scents each season.

It shouldn’t surprise you that I love more than a handful of Scentsy fragrances! In fact, I develop a relationship with each scent we bring into the line. That’s not to say I fall in love with every scent, but I can appreciate the complexity of each fragrance, the ingredients they include, and the memories they evoke and enhance.

Even if you aren’t trained in fragrance development, you are a Scentsy Consultant. You love our scents, and you know them. You know how they make you feel, what memories they resurface, and you recognize similarities between them, whether you know the exact ingredients or not.

Use this knowledge to help your customers think outside the box. They have their favorites, just as you and I do, but the next scent they can’t live without is only one sniff away. Next month’s Bring Back My Bar promotion is an incredible opportunity to help choose our 20 featured fragrances, compare them to others in the line, and make note of similarities or complementary scents. This is a great way to make recommendations to your customers and introduce them to scents they may not have experienced before.

I love the excitement that surrounds Bring Back My Bar. Not only do I get to see which scents you love and miss, I get to revisit my old friends—fragrances from years past—and share them with you. So, mark your calendar for April 13 and vote for your favorite discontinued fragrances. And I’ll be sure to do the same.

OTHER DIRECT SALES OPPORTUNITIESAs an Independent Scentsy Consultant, you are free to participate in other direct selling opportunities as long as their product offering doesn’t compete with Scentsy’s. But recently, we’ve been seeing very aggressive recruiting tactics from other direct selling companies. We feel it’s important to encourage all of our Consultants to be very careful about any opportunity that sounds too good to be true.

Here are a few things to consider when evaluating another direct selling opportunity:

• Does the company explicitly represent its products and opportunity, and has it placed a reasonable value on its enrollment kit? • Are you signing up to sell a product or service, or is the intent of the enrollment unclear? Look at the fine print of the enrollment process and terms and conditions and understand all restrictions that may affect your current business. • Avoid signing up for companies that do not clearly represent what you are selling, how you will be paid, and what your compensation will be. • Is your personal information upon enrollment being used for sound business reasons or is it being sold to other companies for marketing purposes? • Is the company a member of the Direct Selling Association (DSA)? If not, they may not be operating within very high

industry and ethical standards of doing business.

Remember, not all direct selling companies are like Scentsy. Proceed with caution, and with a clear understanding of what the true opportunity—and the cost of that opportunity—might be.

CROSS-MARKETING Please remember, Scentsy does have strict policies against cross-marketing. Heidi and Orville personally addressed all Scentsy Consultants with an email regarding the situation last month. Here’s some of the information they shared:

• Scentsy Consultants may not cross-market another direct selling opportunity to their Scentsy downline or to contacts obtained through their Scentsy business. The entire policy can be found in section 11 of the Scentsy, Inc. Policies and Procedures.

• In response to requests from Consultants and Directors who have been affected by cross-marketing, Scentsy developed a process for handling a complaint received against a Scentsy Consultant with supporting evidence of improper cross-marketing. The consequences are:

– Permanent forfeiture of all unpaid leadership bonuses (earned sales commissions will be paid) – Immediate suspension of their Scentsy account (orders cannot be placed, Personal Website suspended, etc.)

• The disciplinary action will be the same for every Consultant violating the policy, regardless of rank or title. Consultants in this situation must choose to either immediately end their relationship with Scentsy, or end their relationship with the other company. In choosing to stay with Scentsy, they must:

– Send a letter or email of apology to every Scentsy contact they have solicited for the other company. – Remove any reference to their participation in or connection with the other company on their Scentsy social

media sites.

• Any further evidence of a continued relationship with the other company will result in immediate and final cancellation of their Scentsy account. No exceptions.

HEIDI JOHNSON—OUTSTANDING SALESIn early 2009, Heidi Johnson had just had her second child. She and her husband decided she would put her 11-year career as a firefighter and paramedic on hold to stay home with their children. Naturally, this cut the family income in half.

“Bills started piling up,” Heidi said. “With absolutely no sales experience (or social skills) we decided that Scentsy’s safety aspects fit my previous career and would be a good selling point.”

She began her Scentsy business with hopes of bringing income into the home without sacrificing her time with her children. This accomplished, she now has a new goal. “My primary Scentsy goal is to empower individuals to rise above life’s challenges, to overcome mediocrity, and to instill the saying, ‘all things are possible.’”

Her road to success with Scentsy came with amazing new relationships and many surprises, she said. But her biggest revelation was in finding herself—and exactly what she’s made of. “There is a huge world outside of your comfort zone,” she said. “[My Sponsor] obviously saw something in me that I hadn’t seen yet.”

Now, she tells Consultants interested in making the most of the Scentsy opportunity to create a vision, write it down, and read it daily. “Remember that a wise man learns from his mistakes, a wiser man learns from others’ mistakes, but the wisest man learns from others’ successes.”

BETHANY AUTH—OUTSTANDING SPONSORLast year, Bethany Auth discovered something about herself—she had an addiction. Not to anything hazardous, harmful, or dire. But it was powerful and impossible to overlook. She needed fragrance!

BITSY BROOKS—OUTSTANDING START When Bitsy Brooks found Scentsy, she was a bit hesitant. A sufferer of extreme allergies and asthma, she had never been able to “burn” any kind of scent before. “I wasn’t sure at the time if Scentsy was right for me,” she said. “I couldn’t have been more wrong.”

At the request of a longtime friend, Bitsy tried the product—she purchased a warmer and a Toasted Caramel Sugar Scentsy Bar. To her astonishment, even the heavy Bakery Collection scent gave her no trouble at all. “I called my friend immediately and wanted to know how to get more,” she said. “Then we were talking about the opportunity and how Scentsy could enhance my life.”

The friend became her Sponsor, and Bitsy launched a Scentsy business. Squeezing it into her hectic schedule wasn’t easy—she works full time, is a mother to two, and is currently working on a Master’s Degree—but she was looking for an opportunity to make extra income that could accommodate her life.
