MEN’S TENNIS PRESEASON NOTES

New Addition – The Oregon men’s tennis family grew over the winter break as one new athletes is donning the Green and Yellow. Freshman Sam Bush stepped onto campus for the start of the winter term, bringing the Ducks’ roster up to 10 players. Bush comes from Maret High School in Washington D.C., where he was a three-time all-conference selection.

Welcome Aboard – With the addition of Bush, Oregon has fi ve newcomers on the roster, fi ve freshmen and junior overseas transfer Baptiste Faynot. In addition to the two January newcomers, Robin Cambier, Alex Rovello and Michael Schaeff er are each experiencing their fi rst collegiate action this season.

Rising Sophomore – Aaron Clissold returns to the Ducks’ lineup after a solid debut season in 2010. The New South Wales, Australia native arrived in Eugene last January and went 13-8 during the dual season and fi nished 14-9 overall. His .619 winning percentage in singles play was the best among all UO players.

Fall Standouts – The Ducks are coming off a solid showing in their fall tournaments. UO went a combined 40-26 in singles and 13-12 in doubles action over the fall. Even more encouraging was the play of the newcomers, who posted the team’s top-three singles records. The trio of freshman Robin Cambier and Alex Rovello and junior Baptiste Faynot went a combined 20-8 in singles play during the fall slate. Cambier went 8-2 and claimed his fl ight title at the Boise State Fall Classic, Rovello went 6-4 and won fi ve of his last seven matches and Faynot fi nished 6-4 and claimed four of his last fi ve fall matches.

Recent Improvement – Oregon has improved in dual competition over head coach Nils Schyllander’s tenure, winning at least 10 matches in three of the past four years after last year’s 12-11 fi nish. The last time Oregon has fi nished with three double-digit win seasons in that span was 1995-98. Prior to this recent stretch, the Ducks had won fewer than 10 duals four-straight seasons and fi ve of the past six campaigns.
