“FOR THE RESIDENTS, BY THE RESIDENTS”

Happy Thanksgiving November 2012

More Than a Day

As Thanksgiving Day rolls around,

It brings up some facts, quite profound.

We may think that we’re poor,

Feel like bums, insecure,

But in truth, our riches astound.

We have friends and family we love;

We have guidance from heaven above.

We have so much more

Than they sell in a store,

We’re wealthy, when push comes to shove.

So add up your blessings, I say;

Make Thanksgiving last more than a day.

Enjoy what you’ve got;

Realize it’s a lot,

And you’ll make all your cares go away.

Remember that it is your civic duty to go out and vote. As American citizens and with all of the freedom of speech, you have a voice to elect the candidate of your choice. Voting is November 6th and for the people here in Southfork the voting poll is located at

Country Aire Estates, 38130 McDonald St which is located behind the Raceway gas station on RT 301.

Freedom is not Free

There is a price we pay for freedom

For it is not truly free

But rather paid for by the contributions of veterans

To buy our Liberty

As their blood drains from their body and runs like a river through the grass

I don’t think we all realize the importance veterans play

As they voluntarily serve America each and every day

We should honor the veterans for they act like a shield

Protecting us from danger, keeping America healed.

So if you would take a second to commemorate

You will instantly see

We owe veterans our gratitude

For they are the reason we are free.

Welcome to our Community of Southfork!

November 4tht marks the end of Daylight Savings Time. Before going to bed on Saturday night,

remember to set your clocks back one hour. It is a good time to replace the batteries in your fire

detectors and the batteries in your flashlights as well!

OOPS!!!!!! Error on calendar of October Newsletter!!!!!

I made an error on the scheduled pick up day for the Blue Bag and was looking at

another month and selected the wrong dates which should have been Oct 6th & Oct 20th. I did send out

emails to the people I had email addresses for and so sorry for the error. Thanks, Phyllis

Association “ Nominations”

On Monday. November 12th, (note the date is usually the 4th Monday in November) the first

association meeting of the fall season will be held at 9am. At this time a slate of nominees, prepared by

the nomination committee will be presented and nominations for Board Members will be opened to all

members of the association at this meeting.

The terms of office are up for 3 directors. Please take time to think this over and decide if you are at all

interested in becoming a member of this Board.

Did you ever think what would happen if there was no association and what this community would be

like?

It is so easy to sit out there and do nothing, but have you volunteered or made your voice known or to

bring forth ideas or suggestions? Did you ever stop and think of why things are done here and who

initiates the plans that become a reality? Why should it always be the same people and why don’t we

have more and new aggressive people who would like to make a change? This means you have to want

to be on the board/committee’s etc. and keep the ball rolling and making this a community that

everyone wants to live in and be proud of. If you are someone wanting to help out, be fair and equal on

everything, have an open mind, have a good listening ear , (ideas), then you are a person we are looking

for!!!!!

I urge you to attend this important meeting so that you too, can take part in nominating your choice

of candidates. If you don’t think you can do it and know someone who can, by all means, nominate

them .

If interested to be on the ballot, please contact: Tom Geyer, Craig Whitbeck or Tony Trubiano.

Try and let them know before this meeting so your name can be entered on the ballot in January!

from the Association President

Dear Friends & Neighbors,

The community of Southfork is holding an area/community (US98/US301) meeting on Saturday,

November 3rd, at our clubhouse, 10808 US98, Dade City and everyone is welcome to attend and help

us solve an issue regarding placing a light at the corner of US98/US301.

The issue in this case is to pursue a request to petition county and or state officials to put a traffic

light or some other remedy at the junction of Route 301 and 98.

We here in Southfork recently lost a member of our community due to an accident he had there

recently. There have been numerous accidents at this corner some resulting in death and many

other issues and no one in the county seems to think there is a problem or issue with this traffic

coming and going to Zephyrhills and Dade City. It could happen to any of us at any given time with

the way traffic comes and goes with no traffic light at the intersection.

One of our residents, Don Reno called me to ask if our Association would sponsor a petition and I

could not say no! We have started a petition here in Southfork and we are asking all of our

neighbors to join us in this important issue to stop any more accidents from happening. There is no

doubt that our neighboring communities have had some of the same experiences .

We NEED YOUR HELP !!!!!!! WILL YOU HELP US TO CONTACT OUR LOCAL STATE SENATOR,

DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, LOCAL SHERIFF DEPARTMENT, NEWSPAPERS, RADIO AND

TELEVISION TO ATTEND AN OPEN MEETING OF ALL CONCERNED RESIDENTS OF OUR COMMUNITY

AND OUR NEIGHBORING PARKS?????

PLEASE help and attend our meeting at the Southfork club house at 1PM, on November 3rd, 2012.

Dot Cady, 352-567-6456

To Our Southfork Neighbors

We would like to express how thankful we are to all our fellow Southfork

neighbors for attending Ed Young’s funeral and for the outpouring of love,

support and the food brought in by the neighbors, during this difficult time.

We will never forget you!!!!

Sincerely, Sally Young and family

COME ONE…COME ALL…VOLUNTEER…SOUTHFORK NEEDS YOU

In order to continue our activities successfully, we need volunteers who are willing to donate

their time and talent as helpers and committee members for our various functions. There is a

place for everyone who would like to participate. Please join us, as a helper or a worker,

whether you have a little time or a lot, there is an activity which needs you and that could be

selling of the 50/50 tickets, set up or whatever. We need participation from all of you in order

to have an interesting, active community which all of us can enjoy. If you can help in any way,

please contact Dot Cady or any of the board members which are listed on page 2 of the

newsletter.

Women’s Club

On October 3rd, we had our regular scheduled meeting and it was hosted by, Sherry Glatfelter,

Kathy Gallick and Dixie Logoyda whom all did a great job.

2 letters of resignation were received and read……one was from Marge Otto, chairperson of the

Memorial committee. We are very sorry to lose her and she did such a good job and she will be missed

and she also volunteered her help if need be. We lost Ed Young, so the women of Mesquite Dr

volunteered to bring food to Sally’s home. Phyllis called the neighbors and we had such good response

and they had brought all the food needed plus a Big Sub was purchased from the Women’s Club.. So if

we do not get a chairman, we will proceed that way and we will work with the neighbors.

The other letter of resignation was from Bobbi Gillis who resigned as secretary. She also will be missed

and Dot Cady stepped up and graciously accepted to be our secretary and we were very happy.

Linda Dickinson who has been out Photographer/Historian since year 2001 also asked to be replaced.

Thank you Linda for a job well done and Carol Whitbeck came forward and will replace Linda and I was

thrilled to see that Carol volunteered for the job and also she will be the chairperson of our Gardening

committee and look after the plants. It is with people volunteering that make our club a success.

Mary Bolin will take over the Charity committee because of Shirley Rouer’s health issues. We are so

sorry to lose her and she did a great job. Mary also is in charge of the annual bazaar and she mentioned

that she has tables for sale and to please contact her. Our bazaar is Nov 17th and Shirley Tiratto is in

charge of the Bake sales and Donna Trubiano will have 2 tables for the Quilters. Willie Stoever and her

crew will have the White Elephant table, so please bring your slightly used items the day before.

We will also have Baskets to be raffled and we will be selling Sloppy Joes, Cookies and Coffee. We hope

this will be a great success because this is the backbone of our club.

We had a speaker from Hospice, Mr Bart Demezier, from Social Services and there were many women

asking questions about Home Care. Did you know that if someone goes to Hospice and have no

money/insurance, you will never receive a bill. The women’s club gave him a donation of $100.00.

Next month we will have a meal at the clubhouse at 10am to welcome back the snowbirds. Please

signup so we know how much food we have to buy. We will have prizes and games.

At the end of the October meeting, Dot gave us a breakdown of all upcoming activities being scheduled.

After the meeting, I raffled 5 beautiful Halloween Bags donated by the very generous Tanya Hahn.

Thanks again Tanya for your thoughtfulness!!!

The meeting was closed followed by a beautiful Buffet put on by our hostesses.

Bunco Night

Monthly BUNCO night will start on Sunday, Nov 4thth at 6:30pm and will be every 1st and 3rd

Sunday of the month. This is a dice game and something everyone can learn in 5 min. For

those who are interested but don’t know how to play…………..don’t worry and come anyway,

because we will have someone explain the game and how to play. This is a fun game and it is

tables of 4 and if we do not have enough for each table, we use the “Ghost” player who does

not win anything but his partner does.

For each game played (at least 3 games), the losers from each table will move to the next

table and have a different partner for the next game (even the ghost). The winners stay at the

same table but change seats for each game not having the same partner. .

There will be a $3.00 charge per person and 7 prizes given out by the end of the evening and

the more people that play, the more the prizes will increase.

Everyone will have a chance to win something whether they lose or win. There should be a lot

of laughter, fun and good friendship with an evening such as this. The traveling fuzzy dice will

be the hit of the evening and the person getting a Bunco receives this until the next person gets

a Bunco and the last person holding the fuzzy dice gets a prize. It is tossed from table to

table………….

This game of BUNCO is played all across the USA in many communities and is played by all ages.

On this Bunco night we will ask the players for some finger food to be brought in (such as chips

& dip, cookies etc.) so we can enjoy and be a little festive. Every one brings their own

refreshment drinks but we do supply the coffee.

So plan on a fun evening and look for the sign up sheet on the bulletin board at the clubhouse.

We need to know how many will be attending so that we have enough tables set up. So

instead of a boring Sunday evening, come and join us all for some fun.

Any questions, please contact, Phyllis Grossi, 567-6105.

“TOPS” WEIGHT LOSS SUPPORT GROUP

The first meeting was held on Saturday, Oct 6th @9am and there were 20 in

attendance. The program was explained by the TOPS chapter captain, Sarah

Hernandez and she recruited 6 people from the group to run the class each

Saturday here in Southfork at 9am.

On the fence about losing weight??? Visit our TOPS meeting and we now meet

each Saturday morning at 9am to weigh in and then the meeting follows at

9:30am right in our clubhouse.

TOPS Club Inc, (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) is a nonprofit weight-loss support

organization. TOPS encourages weight loss and maintenance through mutual

support of sensible eating and exercise. The heart of that support comes during

weekly chapter meetings. It is a self-help group of like-minded people willing to

encourage one another, share information and help each other stay on track as

they develop enjoyable lifestyle changes. It is a safe place to talk, listen and be

inspired among people with similar experiences

TOPS offers information on health and nutrition, on exercise, plus our weekly

support, encouragement and motivation at these meetings.

We have recipe exchanges from the ones who love to cook and experiment,

suggestions on what to do when you go out to eat and so many varied subjects

which will be discussed weekly.

We have motivation projects to keep all the members upbeat and wanting to

win, challenges for the ones that lose weight and so many other little things to

keep all interested.

The agenda is: Weigh in, leader calls meeting to order, Roll call is taken, new

members and visitors are introduced, a professionally prepared TOPS program is

presented, Weight recorder reports on number of members weighing in, total

losses, total gains, awards are presented to best loser, etc.

So if you are on a diet and need some motivation, come join us on Saturday

mornings. We meet weekly!!!!!

Looking forward to seeing you there!!!!

Your Chapter Officers……….

Shortcut Ravioli Lasagna

How smart...using ravioli as the base for this lasagna saves a lot of time, but

doesn't sacrifice a bit of flavor. It's easy and delicious!

Ingredients:

Vegetable cooking spray

3 cups Prego® Italian Sausage & Garlic Italian Sauce (or your favorite sauce)

1/2 cup water

1 package (30 ounces) frozen regular size cheese-filled ravioli (about 30 to 34)

6 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese (about 1 1/2 cups)

Grated Parmesan cheese and chopped fresh parsley for garnish

Directions:

Heat the oven to 375°F. Spray a 3-quart shallow baking dish with the cooking

spray.

Stir the sauce and water in a large bowl. Spread 1 cup sauce mixture in the

baking dish. Top with half the ravioli, 3/4 cup mozzarella cheese and 1 cup

sauce mixture. Top with the remaining ravioli and sauce mixture. Cover the

baking dish.

Bake for 35 minutes or until the mixture is hot and bubbling. Uncover the baking

dish. Sprinkle with the remaining mozzarella cheese.

Bake for 10 minutes or until the cheese is melted. Let stand for 10 minutes.

Sprinkle with the Parmesan cheese and parsley.

STARBURST

Time: 7 to 10:00pm

Admission Price: $4.00 per person

BYOB & SNACKS

The extremely popular brother and sister entertainers, Starburst,

played for us in our hall July 21st, and nobody left early!

Their music is timeless and their interactions with the audience, was

well worth the admission price.

We had people from Grove Ridge and Blue Jay parks in attendance.

They indicated their desire to return when we re-booked the

entertainers. Plan on a very enjoyable evening with friends.
