Thank you for patronizing the sponsors of the dinner auction.

My friends,I welcome you and thank you for your attendance at this year’s dinner

auction at St. Matthew.I don’t know much of anything about Rhinestones and Rawhide, but in

some way it could encourage us in our faith. The beauty of our God-given lives at times sparkles like rhinestones and at times is as rough as rawhide. This evening is a time to bring all aspects of our lives to this place for a time of fellowship and fundraising for the good of the Church of St. Matthew. All of the funds raised tonight will allow us to carry out our mission as a parish serving southeast Topeka. It will allow us to continue to love God’s children by providing a quality Catholic education, to encourage God’s young adults preparing for marriage, to console those who are mourning and to celebrate all of the sacraments with reverence and joy. We are a welcoming community and strive to do more of God’s good work.

I hope that you find this night to be filled with good times, good food and drink, exciting bidding and sharing of your gifts to build God’s Kingdom. May the goodness of this night allow you to find the joy and the peace of our God.

Finally, I wish to thank our Auction chairs, sponsors and benefactors, our many committee members for all of their great stewardship, and to you for coming to spend some time with us. May our good God bless you abundantly.

Fr. Jerry VolzPastor of St. Matthew Catholic Church

Auction RulesGeneral1. The “bank” will open at 9 p.m. Payment by the successful bidder may be made at the bank any time during the evening. Please allow 30 minutes following the close of the silent auction and 10 minutes following the sale of a live auction item.

2. Payment in full is mandatory this evening. You may pay by cash, check or credit card. Items may be removed only by showing a “paid” receipt obtained from the bank. A bid is an offer to purchase the item up for auction. When the auction closes, the agreement is formed and becomes binding. A bid is a contract.

3. All items must be paid for, claimed and removed the night of the auction at the close of the event.

4. Please pay attention to all conditions, restrictions and expiration dates on items and services. Gift certificates do not include tax or gratuity.

5. Dates for all trips and similar events must be mutually arranged with donor, unless otherwise noted. No refunds are permitted for cancelled, lost or unused tickets and/or accommodations.

6. St. Matthew has attempted to describe and catalog all items correctly, but all items are sold “as is.” St. Matthew’s neither warrants nor represents, and shall in no event be responsible for the correctness of the descriptions, genuineness, authorship, provenance, or condition of the property. No statement contained in this book or made orally at the time of sale or elsewhere shall be deemed such a warranty, representation or assumption of liability for tax purposes or for general value.

7. All sales are final. No exchange or refunds unless otherwise indicated.

8. St. Matthew reserves the right to withdraw any item prior to bidding.

9. Values set for some items being auctioned are estimated only and are not warranted by St. Matthew for tax purposes or for general value.

10. By bidding you are agreeing to these rules.

Silent Auction1. All items have bid sheets attached or nearby. Enter a bid by writing your bid number next to the bid you desire. The bidding begins with at least the starting bid listed on the bid sheet.

2. You must increase each bid by at least the minimum raise listed on the bid sheet. You may and are encouraged to bid higher. The next bidder must increase their bid by at least the minimum bid.

3. Items have a “Guaranteed Price” option at the bottom of each sheet. “Guaranteed Price” means if you really want an item and are willing to pay a premium price, you can automatically own that item. Simply write your bid number by the predetermined sale price, thus closing the item to further bidding.

4. The first portion of the silent auction is scheduled to close at 8:30 p.m. The second portion will close at 9:30 p.m. The closing bid certified by an Auction Official will constitute the winning bid. Should the final bidder not have raised their bid by the minimum raise, the item will go to the preceding bidder who followed correct bidding procedures.

JackpotAs soon as the cocktails and hors d’oeuvres are being served (until 8:00 PM)we will be playing “Jack-pot.” Deck of cards are cut in half and one set of the cut cards are put into the “control bowl” while the other set of cut cards are sold. The cards cost $5.00 a piece. Once all of the cards have been sold, the emcee will draw the winning card from the “control bowl”. The winner wins half the pot(Pot= $260, Winnings=$130), and is encouraged to buy the first 4 cards of the next round. Then the selling begins again. The last round is called “The Grand Jackpot” and the cards are sold for $10.00 a piece. The win-ner would get half the pot (Pot= $520, Winnings=$260).

Evening’s AuctioneerRon Stricker of Stricker’s Auction

Jerry Stricker and his wife Carole (Ron’s parents) founded Stricker’s Auction Company in 1970. The auction company continued to prosper and in 1984 Ron graduated from Missouri Auction School and joined his parents in the family business. The Strickers operated two auction rings simultaneously to keep up with the amount of merchandise they were receiving every week; selling at a pace of about three items per minute. They sell 1500 to 2000 items every week.

Thank you Ron, David, George, Toby & BenEvening’s EmceeVickie BroxtermanDiamonds are a girls best friend, but Bob Broxterman says Rhinestones are just fine for Vickie. Our emcee for our annual auction is Vickie Broxterman, and she says,“This event is one to look forward to every year! Good friends, and community come together for the opportunity to help in a good old “barn raising” evening that enables St. Matthews to continue growth and stability for all of our parishioner partners.” However, Vickie maintains that if anyone wants to give her some diamonds she would be open to that!
