John Palatucci, a prayerful farewell as he departs for his new assignment as Administrator of Saint John the Evangelist in Pawling, Dutchess County. His assignment became effective September 1st. On behalf of our entire parish community, I would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Father John for his two years of priestly ministry to our parish family as a dedicated priest but also in those special ways he reached out by way of his weekly bible study class, by teaching our children in the religious education program, and most recently by leading the pilgrimage to Fatima. (We’ll also miss your musical talent in this year’s parish concert.) After Father gets settled in his new parish, we will arrange for a date to have him back to celebrate mass followed by some hospitality over in the gym. Thank you Father John. Good luck, God bless you and AD MULTOS ANNOS! _____________________________________________
RENEW AND REBUILD CAMPAIGN We will soon be concluding the solicitation phase of our parish Renew & Rebuild Campaign. We are very grateful to all of you who have stepped up to support our parish campaign and me, your pastor, by sending in your gifts and pledges. Because of your financial sacrifices, we should be in a good position to move forward with the capital projects we outlined in the printed material we distributed. We will, of course, begin with the installation of a new Air Conditioning and Heating system. As most of you now know, our old system has now broken down and, except for the fans, is out of service. If you have not yet gotten around to sending us your gift or pledge, and would still like to support our parish campaign, we ask that you please send in your gift or pledge this week. You may either mail it in or else drop it into the basket at Sunday mass. It would be wonderful if the business men and women among us would investigate if their companies offered MARCHING GRANTS for charitable or not for profit projects such as ours. Again, your financial sacrifices are greatly appreciated by me, your pastor and your entire parish family will benefit greatly through your generous gifts and the ongoing redemption of your long term pledges Prayerfully in Christ, Msgr. Emmet Nevin
CANCER SUPPORT GROUP HERE AT ST. AEDAN’S
We at St. Aedan’s have formed a cancer support group which is known as “Our Lady Queen of Peace Cancer Support Group.” Unlike other groups, our parish group will be open to anyone affected by this disease, including family members and friends. Presently, the group meet once a month. More frequent meetings may be scheduled in the future if the members determine it would be desirable. Our meetings take place on the second Tuesday of each month. The first meeting of the year will be on September 12th at 7:00P.M. in the meeting room. Anyone who is interested in joining this group, here St. Aedan’s, is asked to contact
Margie at 845-323-9665.
BLUE MASS AT SAINT AEDAN’S SUNDAY, OCTOBER 1ST – 2 PM
A Blue Mass is a Mass celebrated for those employed in the “public safety field” (i.e. police officers, firefighters, correctional officers, 911 operators and EMS personnel. The color blue refers to the blue-colored uniforms predominantly used by these services. Similar to the Red Mass, the service honors those who have died in the line of duty and those currently serving as first responders. The Mass is an opportunity for the entire community to show gratitude to our first responders and their families. All responders, active and retired, are asked to wear their dress uniforms or other apparel identifying their service. _____________________________________________
PARISH FAMILY MASS RESUMES SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 10TH – 10 AM
GRANDPARENTS DAY OBSERVANCE Now that our summer vacation schedule is over and our children are back in school, we will resume our 10 AM parish Family Mass each week. Although we welcome everyone to the Family Mass, we would like you to know that, at the 10 AM Mass, the homilist will be presenting a more child friendly, interactive homily which will most often entail the younger children being invited to come forward and sit around the steps of the sanctuary throughout the homily. Additionally, each week, different families will be invited to bring up the offertory gifts of bread and wine at the appropriate time. Those who prefer a more traditional mass are, of course, welcome to attend the Saturday 5:30 PM Vigil Mass or the Sunday 8 AM, 12 Noon and 7 PM masses. Regardless of which mass you decide to attend, please remember to have our PREP school students pause, following mass, to greet our priests and deacon and to hand in their mass cards. We greatly appreciate the patience and ongoing cooperation of our parents with this procedure. Saint Aedan, pray for us!
PARISH RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM (PREP)
Religious Education Classes (PREP) begin the week of September 11-12-13-14. Afternoon classes are 4:15-5:45 and evening classes are 7:00-8:30. Students registered by August 15, 2016 will start this week. Those whose registration was late will be notified when they will be able to start. Any family not yet registered is urged to do so this week. The PREP Office is open Monday-Thursday to accept registration. Forms may also be dropped off in the Rectory. Registration cannot be accepted during class time. _____________________________________________
ADULT ALTAR SERVER MINISTRY “I came to serve, not to be served.” - Jesus Join us! Be of Service… Be an Adult Altar Server. A special ministry whereby an adult man or woman assists the priest during funeral Masses. In many cases, it is one of the most beautiful celebrations you’ll attend lending a special element of consolation and support for the deceased family. What do we do? During the Funeral Mass, our ministry enhances and adds to the reverence and worship of Our Lord by assisting the priest with the preparation of the church, and then aiding in the liturgy by carrying the Cross, candles, incense and censor, holding the missal, and helping with the sacred vessels. By our presence, we are expressing to the family and friends of the deceased, the parish’s condolences for the loss of their loved one. If you are interested please contact Bob Reers at 548-2256 or else speak with our pastor, Msgr. Nevin. _____________________________________________ CATECHETICAL SUNDAY & FAMILY MASS
Next Sunday, September 17th, at our 10 AM family mass, we will recognize all of our wonderful catechists who exercise the Ministry of Catholic Religious Education with all of our public school boys and girls. We are very grateful for their dedicated and loving efforts and the many sacrifices they make in order to fulfill this year-long commitment. Go forth and preach the Gospel to all nations! _____________________________________________

The world was a playground for Mickey, a naive Irish American kid bored with his life. His father served in World War II, his brother was a Marine in Vietnam; now it was his turn. His 365 days in Vietnam builds in torment until an attack on a bunker complex in Cambodia. Wounded, his friend captured, he becomes a tormented survivor knowing he is always just a heartbeat from death.
In this memoir, set as deeply in his mind as in the Southeast Asian jungle, a young American soldier embarks
on a journey to a war that, for him, will never be over.
