a Storied nameThe ZL1 name was chosen for its historical significance. ZL1 is derived from the ZL1 all-aluminum racing engine developed in the late sixties and installed into a handful of regular-production 1969 Camaros. Only 69 were built and have since achieved mythical status among enthusiasts—a position that the 2012 ZL1 is destined to retain with pride.

Motivated by a 6.2-liter small block V8, the Camaro ZL1 is expected to deliver at least 550 horsepower. This supercharged engine is matched to a 6-speed manual transmission with a short throw shifter so you can flash through the gears as quick as your fingers can move. But ZL1 is more than just powerful; it has been re-engineered with advanced technology to create something new—a Camaro intended to reach optimal lap times on top road racing circuits with excellent driving dynamics on the street.
