2012 Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championships: Tasmanian Team Wins

Tasmania received great world wide exposure during and following the Commonwealth Fly fishing championships held on Tasmanian waters in February this year resulting in a surge of national and international anglers booking a Tasmania trip to experience this exceptional trout fishery.

The Tasmanian team won the event convincingly beating competitors from all parts of the world including a “bone fishing” team from Christmas Island who had never left their home or flown in a plane and had certainly never seen a trout but all were exceptional fly anglers and were later presented with the friendly team award.

The Tasmanian 2012 – 2013 trout fishing season opened 4th of August 2012 and will continue through to the end of April 2013. With good autumn and winter rains producing high river flows and some record lake levels, both local and interstate anglers are anticipating one of the best trout fishing season for many years.

What is attracting anglers to Tasmania is the variety of trout waters from lightly fished rivers with large numbers of wild fish to thousands of pristine still waters in the Western Lakes area which would take a lifetime to explore.

Also the many variations of fly fishing available and the huge range of hatching bugs throughout the season makes fishing Tasmania a real challenge for any angler.
