There was food & appetizers and wine that everyone brought to share and enjoy for the 1st night. Sitting on the dock, we reminisced on past cruises and possible future ones while watching the sunset.

Friday was more of a free day exploring Milwaukee with dinner at Milwaukee Yacht Club. After dinner it was a quick cab ride to the Festive Grounds to enjoy the music of Gallic Storm and the many attractions of Irish fest.

Saturday was more of an adventure day with lunch at Molly Cool’s. After lunch we caught a river boat for a tasting of the area micro breweries. After the tasting cruise many explored the Farmers Market stores.

Sunday was another great day but with the threat of bad weather to start after 1pm some members left early and some just enjoyed breakfast at the Alterra coffee house, and then left for home port just in time to beat the on-coming storm.

This may have been the last Club trip of 2012, but as with all the WHYC cruises this year, it was memorable, thanks to all the members who participated. We hope you had as much fun as we did. There are still many cruising weeks left before the year comes to an end, so anyone wishing to take another cruise and wish for some company, just let me know, and we’d be happy to join you.

September 2012

Hello All,

As the evenings become cooler and the sun starts setting a little earlier each night, we have entered that time of the year when we will be blessed with some of the most beautiful weather. Many of the recent evenings have already been just perfect. Last weekend as I sat on the deck in front of the club house, I couldn’t help but think about how fast August slipped by, but what an August it was….

August 4th started off with our very own Nancy Scott hosting the annual WHYC Kidsgatta. Nancy and her fl eet of volunteers transformed the great room into an awesome playground fi lled with tons of games, crafts, face painting and even snow cones. Outside in the Pavilion area, the kids had even more activities to choose from including playing with water balloons and tie dying T-shirts. WHYC Club Pups Hot Dogs, chips and soda were served to all the kids. Kidsgatta lasted for hours and was a huge success! Thank you very much to Nancy Scott for organizing & running such an awesome event and to all her volunteers who helped out including: Rick Scott for running the water game activities, Mary Ann Capozzoli for all her generous efforts in assisting to make this event so special, Gia & Johnna Capozzoli for helping set up, Candi Mayr for donating games & prizes, Tom Bohler for serving snow cones, Colette Foley for registration and Linda Karlin for serving the kids lunch.

CORNERcommodore’scommodore’scommodore’sWhile Kidsgatta was going on, the WHYC Clup Pups Hot Dog stand was open for business serving up the best values in delicious hot dogs, polish sausage, chips, sodas, bottled water and tap beers.

Later that evening members and guests lined the board walk in front of the WHYC for the Annual North Point Marina Venetian Night boat parade and fi reworks. This year’s theme was “Cartoons.” There was everything from the Peanuts, the Flintstones and Scoobie Doo to Sponge Bob and Aladdin. Our very own Tom Kandziora along with North Point Marina’s Dave Suthard presented the awards in both the sail and power categories. Congratulations to the fi rst place winner in sail, Elda IV with Ghosts of Cartoons Past and the fi rst place winner in power, Seventh Lady with Aladdin.

August 11th was one of those days were the weather was just beautiful! Members and guests fi lled the Pavilion and courtyard area to celebrate Joe Danek’s Birthday. The WHYC also opened its reciprocity doors to the Catalina Fleet Chicago Chapter which held their annual BBQ. After dinner the Dennis Cassidy Band rocked the Great Room of the WHYC. Members and guests partied and danced for hours as Dennis and his band played classic hits which brought back many memories for all of us. Special thanks to Dennis Cassidy for his generosity in providing the entertainment for everyone to enjoy.

Bill Gabriel stepped up as cruise Captain as he guided several WHYC members on the August 16th cruise to Milwaukee’s Irish Fest. Members and guests enjoyed all the fantastic sights of Milwaukee including visiting Irish Fest, dining at local restaurants, shopping, and brewery tours and even had time for dockside cocktails with appetizers. Regardless of the threat of bad weather, all boats returned safely back to Winthrop Harbor. Great job Bill!

August 25th was the annual WHYC Crab Fest hosted by Greg Hauca, Dennis Cassidy and their crew of many volunteers. Greg, Dennis and their crew prepared freshly grilled corn on the cob, roasted potatoes and succulent steamed crab legs. For $16 per person, this was by far the best value in town for such a high quality and delicious

WHYC members have been unbelievably generous throughout the year with volunteering their time, money and efforts to make our facility one of the best yacht clubs in the area. I would like to personally recognize some of the members who have volunteered their time and/or donations to our club in the month of August:

*Club Pups volunteers – Linda Karlin, Mary Ann Capozzoli, Jodie & Ken Proschwitz, Ron & Tammy Champion, Al Brenke and Candi Mayr for the use of her hot dog steamer.

*Tom & Pat Kandizora – donated funds to purchase a brand new hot dog steamer.

*Dennis Cassidy – provided August 11th entertainment at no charge to the WHYC.

*Dan & Mary Silcox – donated back their $120.00 winnings from the Crab Fest 50/50 raffl e.

WHYC Notice to membership:In efforts to protect our membership and prevent our organization from legal back-lash, Illinois Dram Shop Law notifi cation signs have been posted throughout the clubhouse and pavilion area. It has been brought to our attention that while the Canoe Bar is open for business and serving alcohol, the WHYC is liable for all members and guest who consume alcohol on our property. The laws are intended to protect the general public from the hazards of serving alcohol to minors and intoxicated patrons. With that said, when the Canoe Bar is open for business, all alcohol must be purchased through the Canoe Bar. When the Canoe Bar is closed, members and guest can consume their own alcohol. I thank you in advance for your understanding in this sensitive matter; your safety is our priority.

On a friendlier note, the season is not over yet…please continue to check out the WHYC event calendar at www.whyc.com and take full advantage of all the club has to offer!

Coming up: September 8th is the Texas BBQ party - Live music & Western entertainment at its best!

September 16th – How to winterize your boat, taught by Mark Kish from Larson Marine. Captain Betti Mors will be serving breakfast from 9am-10am for all participants.

September 22nd – The Commodore’s Ball which is the most ultimate formal and luxurious event of the year. Please make your reservations quickly for this event does sell out.

They say the two happiest days for boaters are when you buy a boat and when you sell it. During the past two months we have experienced both special days. We sold our Carver 444 aft cabin bridge boat and purchased a Doral 45, an express boat with fewer stairs.

We had our Carver for eleven years and it is amazing how much you can accumulate in the nooks and crannies on a boat! We had forgotten about most of the things stuffed in the hollow swim platform. I mention this because there is a nautical Flea Market in the planning stages for the end of the season at the clubhouse. Keep this in mind as you get your boat ready to put away for the winter. Perhaps you have extra power cords, electronics, fi shing equipment, etc. that you would like to sell. Wayne and I will have a lot to contribute!

Breakfasts have ended, but there is another opportunity to gather on a casual basis. Sunday evenings around 5:00 there are usually a group of people getting together at the clubhouse for dinner before heading home. People bring their own entrée to grill, and a dish to share with the group. Everyone is welcome.

September still offers great days for boating. See you on the water!

WHITE SCOTT & WHITEWSW is an experienced litigation fi rm, with family law as its primary focus, but having the resources to handle almost any kind of case in which courtroom or appellate expertise is required.

History of the Firm – Roger White founded the fi rm in 1968 and was joined by Kendrick Scott in 1981. Christopher White resigned his partnership in a Chicago law fi rm to join the practice in 2002. Kristie Fingerhut, our only associate, was brought on in 2004. WSW is now and always has been located at its present address, representing litigants in Lake County, Illinois. Few other fi rms can boast of being such a long-standing presence on the North Shore and in Lake County.

Focus – WSW will only take your case if there is a dispute that may give rise to litigation in Lake County. Confi ning our focus in this way gives us a familiarity with the Lake County judicial process that a law fi rm with a broader geographical presence might not have.

– WSW is a small fi rm and is committed to staying that way. Lawyers at larger fi rms tend to have commitments to more clients spread across courts throughout Cook and the collar counties. Our size and narrow focus on Lake County ensures that the lawyer who appears in court for you will be someone you know, someone who knows your case, and someone who knows how things get done in the courtroom where your case will be decided. You can contact Kendrick Scott also known as Rick Scott for all questions. Rick can refer you to well respected professionals out of Lake County to handle your legal matters.
