February 27, 2012 Re: Invitation for the Freddie Solomon Football Showcase Dear Athlete: On behalf of the Tampa Bay Sports Commission, I am pleased to extend you an invitation to participate in the Freddie Solomon Football Showcase on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at the University of Tampa, in Tampa, Florida. You have been identified as one of the top upandcoming prospects in the Tampa Bay area and are therefore eligible to participate in this highly selective event. The Freddie Solomon Football Showcase presents the top talent from Hillsborough County and across the southeast region of the United States. The event is modeled after the NFL combine and named after football legend and community hero, Freddie Solomon, who spent a lifetime mentoring Tampa Bay area youth and helping them reach their highest potential. We remember Freddie and continue his mission through this event. You will be tested in the areas of speed, strength, explosive power, and agility. In addition to these standardized performance measures, you will be evaluated based on your performance during position specific and 1on1 competition drills. The event is conducted by experienced combine performance specialists and a professional coaching staff. This is an outstanding opportunity to prove yourself for an audience of scouts, members of the media, and college football coaches. Enclosed in this packet you will find detailed information on the event, registration and waiver forms and a brief questionnaire that will be used to develop your biography page as part of the event recap. There is no charge for your participation in this event, but completed registrations must be received by May 25, 2012. Forms may be faxed, emailed, or mailed to our office. ABOUT FREDDIE SOLOMON

Known as “Coach”, “Fabulous Freddie”, “Fast Freddie”, or simply “Freddie”, Solomon will forever be remembered as a hero in the Tampa community because of his tireless commitment to serving families and underserved youth. Solomon attended the University of Tampa where he was a recordbreaking quarterback. As a senior in 1974, he rushed for a thenNCAAquarterback record 1,300 yards and 19 TDs. That same year he finished 12th in Heisman Trophy balloting, receiving 13 first place votes. In three years, he accounted for 5,803 yards of total offense and 39 TDs. His career total of 3,299 rushing yards was a NCAA quarterback record. The Dolphins selected Solomon in the second round of the 1975 draft. As a pro, Solomon would go on to play wide receiver, quarterback, running back and kick returner. He spent his first three NFL seasons with Miami and his final eight in San Francisco, finishing with 371

receptions for 5,846 yards and 48 touchdowns in 371 games. Solomon also ran for 329 yards and three TDs as an important member of late Hall of Fame coach Bill Walsh's West Coast offense. With the 49ers, Solomon was part of two Super Bowl championships while being an AllPro selection in 1980. He was inducted to the Univeristy of Tampa Athletics Hall of Fame in 1983 and, in 2002, was honored along with Tino Martinez as the University of Tampa Athletes of the Century. After his football career ended, Solomon worked for two decades in community relations with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office in Florida, where he mentored youth and taught vital life lessons through football. He assembled scores of youth football teams and training camps. He used the teams, his coaching, his wisdom and his softvoice to help children find themselves and see a brighter future. Through his work with the Sheriff’s office he assembled family fun days for hard luck families and hosted an annual Christmas party that generated thousands in donations and provided groups of children and their caregivers with presents. "There was no one who gave more on and off the field than Freddie," Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana said. "The kindness he demonstrated was inspirational to all that knew him, and a joy to be around. The warmth of his smile will be forever imbedded in my mind and heart." Solomon was born on January 11, 1953, in Sumter, S.C. and passed away on February 12, 2012 after a 10 month battle with cancer.
