While most people don’t add salt to their food anymore what they don’t realise is that the majority of modern day/processed foods are packed full of more salt than you

would ever add with a salt shaker before you even buy them.

Pasta sauces can contain the majority of your recommended salt intake in just one serve. Take away foods like Thai and even Sumo salads are packed full of salt.

Manufacturers add salt for two reasons.

1. To make the food taste “better” for palates that are used to being bombarded by salt2. To make foods last longer on the shelf

Either way a higher salt intake= fluid retention= a bloated belly.

2. DehydrationIf you are dehydrated your tummy is going to feel bloated. Water aids digestion and makes sure that you are getting all the toxins out of your body.

Not enough water = not enough digestion = a bloated tummy

Although drinking water is as essential as breathing air many people still struggle to get enough water.

3. Take the Pinch test: If you pinch your skin and it stays pinched after you let go you are super dehydrated.

Hint: Drink from the same bottle all day and count your refills, the bigger the better…

3.Stop Eating ‘Diet Foods’When people want to start getting into shape they start eating diet foods. Diet Yoghurt, Diet Soft Drink, Light Mayonnaise, Low Fat Cheese, Fat Free Salad dressings….you know the stuff.

The big causes of bloat in diet foods 1.The chemical minefield

Many diet foods have replaced ingredients like sugar with a toxic cocktail of chemicals.

2. Artificial sweeteners and sugar alcohols (chemically altered sugars) that cause gas and tummy upsets can be found in most diet products. Some even carry a warning about this….and we still eat them!

2. Salt- Diet meals from the supermarket freezer or delivery services are packed full of salt- often you will get more than 60% of your recommended salt intake in just one meal.

4. Anything with bubbles in it.Consuming anything with bubbles in it is going to leave you feeling gassy and bloated. Skip anything with bubbles in it to avoid that gassy feeling.

1. Bubbles- diet cola fails the bubbles test above2. It’s full of chemicals, including artificial sweetener3. Salt is added to all soft Diet drinks4. Diet Colas contain caffeine, which dehydrates your body

5. Red MeatRed Meat is difficult for your body to digest and can spend a lot of time in your tummy waiting to be digested. Cut out red meat to get a flat tummy

6. FatFat also takes a lot of time to digest in your tummy, causing bloat. Cut out high fat foods to stop belly bloat in hours and to cut belly fat in days…

7. Dairy Dairy is another cause of bloat. If you can cut out all dairy for a few days you will dramatically reduce bloat in your tummy.

8. BreadBread, even wholemeal varieties can be very hard for your body to digest. Many so called wholemeal varieties of bread contain up to 30% white flour. 10. Eating fewer but larger mealsWhen you miss meals you are much more likely to eat (and overeat) larger meals when you are starving to “catch up”. These larger meals put a strain on your digestion and end up making you feel bloated.

11. Dried FruitDried Fruit is full of fibre but can be hard to digest without lots of water. If you want to overcome belly bloat skip dried fruit for at least a few days.
