We open this year’s conference with a very special session led by our 2012Woman of the Year Carolyn Buck Luce. Carolyn will lead a session titled "The newhealthcare ecosystem: From developing new medicines to delivering healthy outcomes.”Trends such as the patent cliff, decreasing R&D productivity, pricing pressures,globalization and shifting demographics have transformed the industry’s long-stand-ing vertically integrated blockbuster model (Pharma 1.0) into today’s Pharma 2.0business model. Carolyn will discuss how the industry is now on the cusp of itsbiggest transformation yet as it begins to morph into a new healthcare “ecosystem”which we have defined as Pharma 3.0.

Pat Mitchell, president and CEO of The Paley Center for Media (formerly theMuseum of Television and Radio), was the first woman and the first journalist to benamed president and CEO of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS). The HollywoodReporter cited Mitchell as one of the most influential female executives in the mediaindustry. She a director on the corporate boards of Bank of America, Inc. and SunMicrosystems, Inc. She also serves on many nonprofit boards, including a foundingpresident of former Russian president Mikhail Gorbachev’s global environmentalorganization, Green Cross International;VDay, a global movement to end violenceagainst women; an advisor to the Center for Public Leadership at the KennedySchool of Harvard University; and a trustee of the Mayo Clinic. Mitchell is also amember of the Council on Foreign Relations. Pat was named as one of the Leagueof Extraordinary Women by Fast Company magazine.

Noreen Fraser, award-winning television producer, responded to her diagnosis ofstage IV metastatic breast cancer by a co-creating and co-producing the 2008 StandUp 2 Cancer network television special that raised over $100 million for cancerresearch. She then founded of the Noreen Fraser Foundation (NFF). NFF supportstranslational cancer research aimed at developing new prevention methods, diag-nostic tools and non-toxic therapies to treat women’s cancers. One NFF Programis Men for Women Now dedicated to supporting women's cancer researchthrough education, mobilization and fundraising initiatives.
