ARRIVAL & REMOVAL OF HORSESHorses will not be permitted to enter the Showground before 8.00 am on Tuesday 4 September under any circumstances. Entry for horses is via the Leader Street entrance. Only the driver will be admitted free but will be required to produce a pass when re-entering the Showground after removal of their vehicle once the Show has commenced. Caravans will not be permitted on the Showground. Only horses accepted for competition are permitted on the Showground.

SHOWTIME ARRIVAL/DEPARTURE TIMES• Arrivals: 8.00pm to 8.00am• Departures: 4.30 pm to 6.00 pm and 8.00 pm to 8.00 am• Please note: Fireworks will be on each night from 9.00 pm to 9.30 pm

PARKING ON THE SHOWGROUND IS STRICTLY PROHIBITEDFor the loading and unloading of exhibits, a duration limit of 45 minutes for cars and floats and 60 minutes for trucks is allowed. In 2012, an Infringement Notice will be issued should the time limit be exceeded. Failure to comply with this ruling and/or pay any fee incurred by 31 December 2012 may result in refusal of entries for future Shows.Prior to arrival, the exhibitor must record the vehicle registration, the name of the responsible person (driver) and their mobile phone number on the Vehicle Permit (provided by the Society). Exhibitors who do not display the Vehicle Permit and do not provide correct information on the Vehicle Permit, will not be permitted to enter the Showground.The Vehicle Permit must be displayed in clear view on the dashboard of the vehicle upon entering the Showground and while loading and unloading. All cars, floats and trucks must be removed from the Showground by 8.30 am daily.There is no vehicle access to the Showground between 8.00 am and 4.30 pm during the Royal Adelaide Show.PLEASE REFER TO THE 2012 HORSES IN ACTION TIMETABLE TO DETERMINE WHICH DAYS YOU REQUIRE STABLING AND LOCKERS. The onus is on the exhibitor to ensure the correct days are indicated on the Stabling & Locker Request Form.• Pony Hack/Show Hunter Pony exhibitors who also exhibit Hacks and/or Show Hunter Horses,

Requests received after the closing date of entry will not be accepted under any circumstances.

PRIZESPrize ribbons will be as listed in each category.In pairs classes ribbons will be awarded to each placed horse.Champions will be selected from first prize winners and Reserve Champions from remaining first prize winners and the second prize winner in the class that supplied the Champion.

PRIZE MONEY AND GSTPrize money as stated in the Prize Schedule does not include GST.The prize money which we pay to successful exhibitors depends on information provided to us. If you confirm that you are GST registered and provide your Australian Business Number (ABN), we will pay the appropriate prize money plus 10% GST. We will provide you with a Recipient Created Tax Invoice which you will need to submit to the Australian Taxation Office.In entering the competition, you acknowledge your agreement to the following:• You will not issue a tax invoice to the

RA&HS in respect to prize money received • You will notify the RA&HS if you cease to be

registered for GST. If you provide your Australian Business Number but are not registered for GST, we will pay the prize money as detailed in the Prize Schedule without reference to the GST.If you confirm you are entering as part of a private recreational pursuit or hobby, we will pay the prize money as detailed in the Prize Schedule without reference to GST.

IMPORTANTIt is important that you either:• Confirm you are entering as part of a private

recreational pursuit or hobby, or • Confirm you are entering as a GST registered

business and supply your ABN Failure to do either of the above will cause the RA&HS to withhold 48.5% of your prize money in accordance with Australian tax legislation. The RA&HS is not a tax consultant and therefore assumes no liability for actions taken as a result of these guidelines. In any instances where an entrant or sponsor is uncertain of the tax implications of their involvement, they should consult their own accountant or tax advisor.

PAYMENT OF PRIZEMONEYEFT is a more efficient form of payment of prize money. Exhibitors are requested to nominate bank account details on the space provided on the entry form to facilitate prompt payment of prize money.

Exhibitors who do not nominate a bank account may be paid by cheque by indicating on the entry form. Please note – payment by cheque will be made after EFT payments are processed.

Please note that cheques will be made out in the name of the exhibitor. If you do not have an account in the name you have entered under, you will need to be paid via EFT.

To assist the Society, would you please ensure cheques are deposited promptly into a bank account. Replacement prize cheques will be issued up to 31 December 2012, however a fee of $10 may be charged. If the cheque to be replaced is not returned then an additional fee will be charged to cover the cost of cancellation. Any concerns regarding prize money must be raised with the Society by 31 December.

WITHDRAWALSAll withdrawals must be made in writing and can be sent via email to: info@adelaideshowground.com.au or faxed to (08) 8212 1533.Emailed withdrawals must include “Withdrawal” in the subject line and the section (eg Horse Section), exhibitor name, class number, exhibit number (if known) and exhibit name (if applicable).No refund of fees will be made after an exhibitor has been notified of the acceptance of their horse.A $20 Administration Fee will be levied on withdrawals made before notification of acceptance.

PENALTY FOR NON EXHIBITION OF ANIMALSFollowing advice from the Society of acceptance of their nomination/s, any exhibitor whose exhibit becomes unable to compete for any reason must notify the Society in writing prior to the first day of the Royal Adelaide Show, that their exhibit/s are unable to compete. Exhibitors who fail to scratch prior to the Royal Adelaide Show will be fined $200 for each exhibit not scratched and may be disqualified from competing at future Royal Adelaide Shows.

ENTRY PASSES• One day exhibitors competing in Rider or

Sidesaddle, will receive a One-Day Pass. An extra one-day pass will be issued for exhibitors with 3 or more horses.

• Exhibitors competing in only World Cup events ie: Warm-up and World Cup Qualifier, will receive 2 one-day passes for one horse and up to four one day passes for two or more horses.

• Members exhibiting more than three horses will receive 1 extra full Show pass. If additional passes are required, members can purchase extra guest passes at a reduced rate.

PERFORMANCESPerformances of each horse, galloway or pony must be stated on the entry form.The schedule of classes is divided into six main sections.

1. Jumping contest (groups A, B and C).2. Harness classes.3. Hack classes.4. Show Hunter classes.5. Section 4’s6. Classes other than above.

A separate entry and performance form is required for each section for each horse, galloway or pony nominated.From the information contained on the entry form the Society will determine which entries are to be accepted. If incomplete information is forwarded, the performance will not be recognised. The Society will then advise all nominators whether their nomination is accepted as an entry for competition at this year’s Royal Adelaide Show in the class or classes stated.The Society will not consider any further performances or information which is forwarded, after entries have closed.

REGISTRATIONAll horses, galloways and ponies entered in any class must be registered with Equestrian Australia (hereafter referred to as the EA), Show Horse Council of Australasia or any other organisations acceptable to the Committee.A photocopy, back and front, of the current Registration certificate must be produced when lodging entries for all horses, galloways or ponies, including those registered within South Australia.Harness and Sidesaddle exhibits only, are exempt from these registration requirements.

OWNERSHIPAll exhibits must be the bona fide property of the exhibitor or held by the exhibitor under a written and recorded lease at the time of entry.

PERFORMANCES RECOGNISEDThe Society will only recognise performances at shows which are affiliated with the Equestrian Australia, Agricultural Shows affiliated with the Federal Council of Agricultural Societies and the Show Horse Council of Australasia. The onus is on the exhibitor to only list performances from recognised Shows.Exhibitors are urged to read the following to ensure performances listed on entry forms meet the acceptance requirements.

Exhibitors entering Hack classes must qualify and compete as a Hack only.

Exhibitors entering Hunter classes must qualify and compete as a Hunter only.

HORSES MAY NOT COMPETE IN BOTH HACK AND HUNTER CLASSES

MINIMUM QUALIFYING PERFORMANCES – HACK CLASSES (eligibility for entry)Competitors must obtain the minimum performances listed below to qualify for the Royal Adelaide Show competition for Hack, Galloway Hack, Pony Hack and Equestrian classes.1. Three first placings in an open height and/or

weight hack class in the current season (ie) 7 May 2011 to 4 May 2012 at shows affiliated with the Federal Council of Agricultural Societies;

Any Champion Hack, Champion Galloway Hack, Champion Pony Hack, Champion Show Hunter Horse, Champion Show Hunter Galloway or Champion Show Hunter Pony gained at any capital city Royal Show (including State and Territory capital city Royal Shows but excluding the Melbourne Summer Royal) in the 12 months prior to the closing date of entries will gain automatic acceptance to compete at the Fourthcoming Royal Adelaide Show.Qualified Hacks and Show Hunters may also enter Equestrian, Smartest on Parade and Leading Rein classes.

OBTAINING THE MINIMUM QUALIFYING PERFORMANCES DOES NOT GUARANTEE ACCEPTANCE FOR COMPETITION.ADDITIONAL PERFORMANCES – HACK AND SHOW HUNTERExhibitors are advised to list additional winning performances to nominate for acceptance in the Royal Adelaide Show competition for Hack, Galloway Hack, Pony Hack, Show Hunter Horse, Show Hunter Galloway and Show Hunter Pony classes.It is expected that entries will be high and additional performances will be required in the event of a ballot.Performances must be achieved at:• Shows affiliated with the Federal Council of

Agricultural Societies.• Placings 1 to 6 in any ridden Hack or Show

Hunter class (competing singly) at any Royal Show (including State and Territory capital city Royal Shows but excluding the Melbourne Summer Royal)

• Wins in any ridden Hack or Show Hunter class (competing singly) in the current season at EA or EA affiliated shows.

• Wins in any ridden Hack or Show Hunter class (competing singly) in the current season at Show Horse Council or Show Horse Council affiliated shows.

These performances will only be recognised as winning performances after the minimum qualifying performances have been achieved.

Events which do NOT count as acceptable performances (at shows other than State or Territory capital city Royal Shows) are:a. Maiden classesb. Hack or Hunter classes restricted by breed,

colour or age.c. Hack or Hunter classes restricted by a district.d. Classes at unaffiliated events.e. Pleasure and/or education and/or paced

FROM THE PERFORMANCES LISTED ON THE ENTRY FORM, THE SOCIETY WILL AT ITS DISCRETION, DETERMINE ACCEPTANCE.All rules and regulations relating to the Horse section are subject to change without notice.

HARNESS CLASSESExhibitors must state harness performances of horses entered. The Society reserves the right to determine which horses are accepted. Harness horses entered for other classes must qualify for those classes.

JUMPINGExhibitors must state their best six performances from 7 May 2011 until 18 May 2012 along with their best six performances prior to 7 May 2011 ONLY.

SIDESADDLE CLASSESExhibitors must state performances of horses entered. The Society reserves the right to determine which horses are accepted. Sidesaddle horses entered for other classes must qualify for those classes.

NOTICE1. It is a condition of your entry that the

Society reserves the right to accept, reject or cancel any entry at any time without being bound to give any reason therefore.

2. Any exhibitor who supplies incorrect information on an entry form is liable to disqualification.

TIMETABLEA timetable of all classes and events is available on the Society’s website - theshow.com.auThis will be framed wherever practicable to avoid judging two classes concurrently in which one exhibitor may be entered.The Society accepts no responsibility if the judging time happens to conflict with one or more classes or events.The Committee reserves the right to substitute, vary the time of, alter or abandon any event in the day or night programmes.The Committee reserves the right to conduct elimination tests in any event at any time, on due notice.Jumping exhibitors entered in other categories (eg hack, rider classes) must give 24 hours notice of a potential conflict in the programming to allow the jumping draw to be altered.Depending on entry numbers, classes may commence at 8.30 am.

ALLOCATION OF STALLS/LOCKERSFor price information on stalls and lockers, please refer to page 2.THE ONUS IS ON THE EXHIBITOR TO ENSURE STALLS AND LOCKERS ARE BOOKED FOR THE CORRECT DAYS.A limited number of stalls and lockers are available on the Showground.The Society will, subject to availability, allocate stalls and lockers as soon as practicable after the acceptance of entries.Depending on entries received local horses may not get a stall.The Society reserves the right to alter this allocation at any time should such action be considered necessary, and may allocate another stall or locker to the exhibitor.Applications for stalls and lockers must be lodged at time of entry.Exhibitors with less than five horses may apply for one locker only.Exhibitors with less than four horses will not be allotted a large locker.These fees will apply whether locker is shared or not.Should the number of applications received exceed the number of lockers which are available, the Society will require exhibitors with one horse to share a locker with another exhibitor.Exhibitors with one horse are requested to indicate on the Stabling/Locker Request form with whom they would be prepared to share a locker if required. If exhibitors do not state a name, the sharing will be determined by the Society.

Requests received after closing date of entries will not be considered.

HORSE STALLSFor price information on stalls and lockers, please refer to page 2.THE ONUS IS ON THE EXHIBITOR TO ENSURE STALLS AND LOCKERS ARE BOOKED FOR THE CORRECT DAYS.Unless a horse is nominated and competes in at least two events excluding rider classes a stall will not be allocated.Stalls will be allocated to Led Stock exhibits by the Society.Any stall which has been allocated, but is not occupied by that horse will be re-allocated.

Whilst the Society will consider stabling requests, no guarantee is made that they will be met.• Horses which are nominated in one or two

classes only may be removed after 4.00 pm on the day on which they have competed. Stalls will not be allotted for these horses and exhibitors must notify the Society at the time of lodging entries that the horse will be removed.

• Exhibitors of horses which have been allotted a stall may remove their horses after 5.30 pm providing a deposit of $50 is lodged with the Society. This deposit will be refunded provided that the horse is returned before 8.00 am on the following day.

MEASURINGAll horses, galloways and ponies entered in a class with a height restriction, whether it be an upper or lower limit, must be measured by the measuring steward before competing.Exhibitors must produce their registration papers, which must be checked to belong to the horse presented, before a measurement can be taken.All horses, galloways and ponies will be measured at the highest point of the wither.The poll shall not be lower than the highest point of the wither at the time of measurement.An allowance of 10 mm for shoes will be observed. Should an exhibit be measured with shoes on, and the exhibitor disagrees with the measuring steward, the exhibitor may have the animal re-measured without shoes.The measuring steward may request the removal of shoes from any horse, prior to measurement.

Any exhibit having passed the measuring steward for its class shall not be eligible for a class of a different height.The onus is on the competitor to advise the Arena Co-ordinator if a horse is transferred to a class of a different height. Failure to do so will preclude entry into that class.The Society may refuse to measure any horse presented for measuring if in its opinion the horse is not in a fit and proper condition to be measured or if in its opinion any circumstances exist which are likely to lead to the horse being incorrectly measured. The Society shall not be required to give any reason for the exercise of the discretion hereby conferred.The Committee reserves the right to re-measure horses at any time during the Royal Show.

NUMBERSIn all classes competitors must wear a distinguishing number supplied by the Society corresponding to the number in the programme.Numbers must be worn on the chest of the horse in rider classes.Numbers for the full period of the Show will be available at 8.00 am on the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday preceding the opening of the Show and may be collected at that time from the Stabling Co-ordinator.These numbers shall be retained by the competitor. If a competitor loses a number during the Show it will be replaced at a cost of $5.

ELIGIBILITYEach horse, galloway, or pony competing in pair and team classes must be nominated separately on the entry form, and exhibitors may pair with other entries received for the same class. If a pair separately owned gains a prize, the prize will be divided.A horse, galloway or pony will not be permitted to compete more than once in any one pair class.A horse, galloway or pony which has won in a pair class is still considered a novice for a single class.The Committee may restrict riders in jumping classes to riding a maximum of three horses, galloways or ponies.In Hack events, excluding championships, a competitor will not be permitted to ride more than one horse, galloway or pony in each class.Substitution of any horse, galloway or pony will not be permitted in any event.

JUDGINGThe Society reserves the right to substitute a Judge when deemed necessary.Persons other than judges and stewards are not permitted in the ring.Horses must not enter the ring unless called by the stewards.Winkers will not be permitted except in harness classes.Any animal which in the opinion of the stewards is considered dangerous, will be removed from the ring.The competing horse’s name must not appear on the forehead band.

CHAMPIONSHIPSEntries eligible for Champion and Reserve Champion awards must be presented to the judge unless exemption has been granted by the Committee.Entries which are not presented will forfeit the award and prize money in the class in which they gained championship eligibility.Entries eligible for Champion and Reserve Champion awards must compete under the same criteria under which they became eligible.Winners of novice classes are not eligible for championship awards.

PROTESTSProtests against awards must be lodged in writing with the Chief Executive before 12.00 noon on the day following the date on which the event is judged.Protests in all cases must be accompanied by a deposit of $50 at time of lodging. The deposit will be forfeited to the Society should the protest be deemed frivolous.

OFFENCES1. Any person who:(a) provides the Society with false information

relating to their qualifications to compete or the qualifications of their child under 18 years of age to compete;

(b) provides the Society with false information relating to an exhibit;

(c) misrepresents the identity of an exhibit;(d) does any act or thing which is intended

to or is likely to result in an exhibit being incorrectly identified;

(e) does any act or thing which is intended to or is likely to result in an exhibit being incorrectly measured;

(f) presents an exhibit for measuring when that exhibit has had any drug administered to it;

(g) commits an act of cruelty to an exhibit; or(h) commits any breach of these regulations shall

be guilty of an offence.2. A Sub-committee of three members of the

Society’s Horse Committee, which members are neither exhibitors nor competitors in the Horses-in-Action Section, shall have power to investigate offences and impose penalties including the following:

(a) disqualification of a competitor from this year’s Show and/or future Shows, and forfeiture of any prizes;

(b) disqualification of an exhibit from this year’s Show and future Shows and forfeiture of any prizes; and

(c) any combination of the above.3. Any person guilty of an offence will be

reported to the Equestrian Federation of Australia (SA Branch), other Royal Show Societies and the Show Horse Council of Australasia.

4. This part of the Special Regulations shall not derogate from the other parts of the Special Regulations.

TRANSFER OF PENALTIESThis Society reserves the right to refuse entries from exhibitors who are under suspension by another Society.

1. The Society may in its absolute discretion:(a) convey to any body any information

concerning any fine, disqualification, withdrawal of a prize or ribbon, handicap, reprimand, warning or any other form of punishment (“penalty”) imposed by the Council on or in connection with any exhibitor or exhibit;

(b) convey to any body any information concerning any investigation, inquiry or hearing (“proceeding”) conducted by the Council, whether or not the proceeding was or has been finalised and notwithstanding that the proceeding did not result in the imposition of any penalty on any person or exhibit;

(c) recognise, act upon and enforce any penalty imposed upon any exhibitor or exhibit at any time by any body;

(d) itself conduct such further proceeding in connection with any matter concerning any exhibitor or exhibit, or any person seeking to become an exhibitor or to enter any exhibit, and impose a penalty in relation thereto notwithstanding that a penalty may have already been imposed by that other body;

(e) enter in reciprocal arrangements with any body in relation to any of the matters referred to in (a) to (e) above.

2. For the purpose of (1.) “body” includes any other society, organisation or body within or outside Australia having similar objects to those of the Society and in particular includes:

(a) RASV Limited;(b) The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria Inc.;

(c) The Royal Agricultural Society of New South Wales;

(d) The Royal National Agricultural and Industrial Association of Queensland;

(e) The Royal National Capital Agricultural Society;

(f) The Royal Agricultural Society of Tasmania;(g) The Royal National Agricultural and Pastoral

Society of Tasmania;(h) The Royal Agricultural Society of Western

Australia;(i) any breed association or society recognised

as such by the Society.

VETERINARY SURGEONJudges and RA&HS officials may call on the Society’s Veterinary Surgeon in respect to establishing the soundness of any exhibit.

VETERINARY SERVICE1. The Society will appoint a veterinary

surgeon to provide a service to exhibitors.2. Should a horse become ill or suffer an

injury then the Society’s Veterinary Surgeon may attend to and treat such animal in the absence of any authority from the owner, and the Society or its Veterinary Surgeon shall not be liable in any way for loss arising out of such treatment.

3. Exhibitors may employ a veterinary surgeon other than the Society’s, but in any such instance must inform the Society of the stock concerned.

4. The Society’s Veterinary Surgeon may refuse to attend an animal previously examined and treated by another Veterinary Surgeon.

5. Unless otherwise specifically stated, only the Society’s Veterinary Surgeon may give certificates required by the Society.

6. All costs incurred in the attendance and treatment of an animal shall be the responsibility of the exhibitor.

INJURY, DISEASEIf in the opinion of the Society’s Veterinary Surgeon a horse on the Showground shall be so injured or be so affected by sickness, disease or other ailment as to warrant its destruction or its removal from the Showground, as the case may be, the Society shall be entitled to have the horse destroyed and/or removed from the Showground and/or shall be entitled to require the owner to Fourthwith remove the horse from the Showground. Any expense incurred by the Society in respect of such horse shall be debited to the owner.

Animals entered for competition must not have been exposed to any communicable/notifiable disease/s at least 14 days prior to theRoyal Adelaide Show.

SWABBINGThe Committee may make or cause to be made, any test of any exhibit at any time before, during or after competition.

DRUGS1. It is the intention of the Society that all

animals shall perform on their merits without the aid of drugs or substances which may affect their conduct, performance or appearance.

2. (a) Exhibitors shall not administer and shall ensure that there shall not be administered to their exhibit/s any “prohibited drug”.

(b) “Prohibited drug” means any substance originating externally (whether or not it is endogenous to the animal) which is capable of - affecting the performance or behaviour of an animal by its action upon the central or peripheral nervous system, the cardio- vascular system, the respiratory system, the alimentary digestive system, the musculoskeletal system or the urogenital system, and includes analgesics, antihistamines, anti-inflammatory agents, blood coagulants, diuretics, hormones and their synthetic counterparts, corticosteroids, anabolic steroids, local anaesthetics, muscle relaxants, tranquillisers and vitamins administered by injection, but does not include antibiotic substances anti-viral, antimicrobial, anti- parasitic) with the exception of Procaine Penicillin, provided that sub-regulation 3 is complied with.

3. (a) The Society may at its discretion cause an examination to be made of an exhibit by a veterinary surgeon, who in the course of such examination may make, by such methods as he may determine, such tests of and take such samples from such exhibit as he deems necessary or advisable. The result of such examination shall be reported to the Society.

(b) An exhibit to which, in the opinion of a veterinary surgeon, a prohibited drug has been administered shall not be exhibited without the consent of the Society and shall be removed from the Showground Fourthwith upon notice from the Society.

(c) An examination may include an examination for desensitised limbs. Any animal found to have a limb or part of a limb desensitised will be considered to have had a prohibited drug administered to it.

(d) The owner or their representative may be present during testing, but shall not interfere in any way with the conduct of a test, and will observe the instructions of the veterinary surgeon on duty.

EXERCISING HORSESHelmets must be worn in the exercise rings at all times.Lunging of horses is prohibited in the exercise ring (east of the Main Arena) between 6.00 am & 6.00 pm unless permission is given by the Horse Committee.The following times have been allocated for the exercising of horses on the outer half of the track:Entires - 5:45 am till 6:15 amHacks, Ponies & Jumpers - 6:15 am till 7:00 amHarness horses - 7:00 am till 8:00 amExhibitors are reminded that the Adelaide Showground has limited space available for exercising and warming up of horses.

SCHOOLING OVER JUMPSSchooling of horses over jumps on any part of the Showground other than the area provided is prohibited.Exhibitors or riders disregarding this regulation may incur disqualification.

ADVERTISINGCompetitors are not permitted to display any material advertising private sponsors except in jumping competitions in accordance with FEI rules.

RIBBONSOnly ribbons awarded during the current Show will be permitted on exhibits.

GRAND PARADESAll horses must be paraded in accordance with the printed programme and notices displayed in the Horse area.Protective headgear to the current Australian, European or American Standard MUST be worn by all riders and harness drivers in the Grand Parade. Exhibitors must wear their exhibit numbers when participating in Grand Parades.

Grand Parade Attire The standard attire for Grand Parades is the same dress as worn in competitive classes. Inappropriate attire may result in the voucher for admittance to the Grand Parade being rejected.

Parade Participation Vouchers When collecting numbers from the Horse Office, all exhibitors will be presented with a sheet of four Parade Participation Vouchers. The number printed on each voucher will be the same as your exhibit number.When entering the main arena to participate in a Grand Parade, one voucher is to be handed to a Horse committee member, ie: one voucher is to be produced each time you participate in a Grand Parade.

Exemption from Grand Parades An exemption can only be obtained between 10.00 am and 11.00 am from a representative of the Horse Committee in the Stabling Co-ordinator’s Office on the day of parade. If an exemption is granted you will be required to surrender one Grand Parade voucher with your approved application for exemption.Being absent from the Showground is not a valid reason for failing to parade.If a weekly exemption is granted all vouchers are to be surrendered with your approved exemption.Parade exemptions may be granted to exhibitors who produce a current medical or veterinary certificate with application for exemption.

Once the Society is presented with a medical or veterinary certificate together with an application for exemption to participate in a Grand parade, such exemption, if approved, will cause the ineligibility of the rider and/or horse from all classes of competition for the same day of the exemption or the validity period of the certificate, provided it is no greater than the calendar year of competition.

Exhibitors seeking exemptions for reasons other than the above (eg work commitments etc) may apply for an exemption prior to Friday, 10 August and pay the Exemption Fee of $100 per horse per parade. Exhibitors applying for an exemption after Friday, 10 August will be required to pay an Exemption Fee of $150.

Part Show Exhibitors Exhibitors who are competing part-Show only must return their unused vouchers when collecting their exhibit numbers from the Horse Office. Exhibitors must surrender four vouchers during the Show. The responsibility of surrendering vouchers over is with the exhibitor.

Failure to Comply Exhibitors failing to produce all four vouchers may be fined $250 for each voucher not presented.Failure to pay any fee incurred by 31 December 2012, may result in refusal of entries for future shows.

EQUIPMENTSpurs and whips -

On the flat, all spurs other than dummy spurs are prohibited. Dummy spurs - spurs must be of smooth metal, shank pointing only towards the rear. Shank end must be blunt for the prevention of injury to horses.If the shank is curved, spurs must only be worn with shank directed downwards. Spur shank NOT to exceed 30 mm in length.No whip longer than 770 mm may be used or carried other than in sidesaddle, led stock or harness classes.In jumping competitions in accordance with FEI rules.

Boots and Bandages - The use of boots or bandages will not be permitted on horses competing in any event other than jumping contests or novelty events.

Helmets -All riders, including competitors in speed events,

must wear protective headgear to the current Australian, European or American Standard. No

other head gear will be permitted.Australian Standard: AS/NZS3838:1998European Standard: EN1384American Standard: ASTMF1163The onus is on the riders to comply with the rules regarding helmets, and their insurance may be rendered void in the event of an accident/injury, if they are found to have been using a non-compliant helmet.It is the recommendation of the RA&HS that inspections of helmets are conducted by competitors/owners on a regular basis to ensure compliance with the rules.The RA&HS recommends that riders replace their helmets after moderate to severe blows.

DOGS AND BIKES NOT ALLOWEDDogs, bikes, scooters and skateboards will not be permitted in the Horse area. This regulation will be strictly enforced during the Royal Adelaide Show.

CORRECT ATTIRECompetitors in hack or jumping classes must wear recognised riding costumes.It is compulsory for anyone riding a horse anywhere on the Showground including practice and schooling arenas to wear protective headgear approved under the current Australian, European or American Standard.Riders under 18 years are not permitted to wear high top riding boots in riding classes.Riders taking part in any parade or competition must be correctly attired in accordance with the following conditions:LADY AND GENTLEMAN RIDERS ON FLATLadies - Formal occasions -

Tan, fawn or buff breeches; black high top riding boots; dark type of grey or black coat; stock; vest; gloves; crop or leather covered cane; spurs.

Ladies - Informal occasions - Jodhpurs or breeches; tan or black riding boots; tweed coat; stock or shirt and tie; gloves; crop or leather covered cane; spurs if desired.

Gentlemen - Formal occasions - Breeches; tan or black high top riding boots; tweed coat; shirt and tie or stock; crop or leather covered cane; spurs.

Gentlemen - Informal occasions - Jodhpurs or breeches may be worn.Gloves optional.

JUMPING CONTESTS - Riders in jumping events must wear white or light fawn breeches. As per Article 256 of the FEI Rules for jumping events.

HARNESS - Cone Scurry, Cone & Obstacle Driving

Protective headgear, gloves, apron, whip and jacket are required.

FODDERThe Royal Adelaide Show Fodder Store is run by Keelan Grain and Fodder. Orders can be placed with them on site or by phone on (08) 8362 4178. Please note that no deliveries by vehicle can be made after 8.30am daily, so ordering the day before is preferred. Supplies must be hand trucked at other times.Exhibitors may bring and store in the stock pavilions their basic fodder requirements. Any exhibitor who, in the opinion of the committee, has more fodder than is considered necessary will be required to remove the excess from the Showground.Exhibitors must not solicit orders for fodder on Showground.

CARE OF STALLS/LOCKERSNumbers or any other identification marks which may have been placed on or in a stall or box by the Society, whether by placard, painting, posting or any other means, must not be removed, disfigured or altered in any way, nor shall any other notice, number or mark be placed in or upon any stall or box other than by the order of the Society. Screens, rugs or any other obstruction which may obscure the interior of the stall to the public must not be used during daylight hours.Stalls shall be used only by animals entered for competition and for the purpose for which they have been allocated to the exhibitor.The consumption of intoxicating liquor in lockers and adjacent areas is forbidden.The observance of the above regulations will be the responsibility of the exhibitor.Infringement of these regulations will result in the cancellation of the stall or locker in question.

STALL CLEANINGExhibitors will, to the satisfaction of the Society:1. Keep each stall allotted to them and their

animals in a clean and proper condition throughout the Show.

2. Clean out their stalls regularly. Refuse must be deposited in manure bins provided.

3. Manure must not be deposited in alleyways or general purpose rubbish bins.

4. General purpose rubbish must not be deposited in manure bins.

BEDDING1. Sawdust and/or shavings will be the only

horse bedding used on the Showgrounds.2. The cost of bedding is included in the stall

fees.3. Exhibitors of hacks occupying a stall in the

second half of the Show will be issued two bedding tickets by the Stabling Co-ordinator at the time of stall allocation.

4. Exhibitors may buy additional bags of sawdust and/or shavings from the fodder store during the Show.

CONTAINERS AND HOSESExhibitors are requested to supply their own feed and water containers and length of hose with 1” (25 mm) fittings to use at the wash down.

FIRE PRECAUTIONSThe use of primus stoves, heating or lighting appliances of a like character or any naked flame, is strictly prohibited in the horse stalls and lockers.The alteration of or interference with any electrical wiring, switch or plug is strictly prohibited.Precautions will be taken to guard against fire and to protect the property at the Showground, but exhibits will not be insured at the cost of the Society.

Smoking is strictly prohibited in all livestock pavilions and lockers.No exhibitor or other person shall remove or displace or interfere in any way with or use for any purpose other than the prevention of fire, any article or appliance provided for use in the case of an outbreak of fire upon the Showground, nor shall any exhibitor or other person remove or alter or add to or interfere in any way with any fixture, fitting, article, appliance or thing owned by the Society or use such fixture, fitting, article, appliance or thing for any purpose, other than for which it is intended by the Society to be used.

Because of fire risk all stalls will remain unlocked during the Show.

BIRTH CERTIFICATEIn a class for which an age limit is specified, the birth certificate of each competitor must be produced at the time of making an entry.If this certificate has been produced previously it is unnecessary to do so again.

AGE OF COMPETITORSThe age of all competitors is to be the actual age on 1 September of the current year.In all events and parades the minimum age of riders shall be five years.

Ponies entered in this class must also be entered and accepted in other general pony hack and/or hunter classes. One rider per horse only to be nominated.

Guidelines:1. Pony to be not exceeding 12 hands

(1219 mm), rider to be 5 years to under 8 years of age on the first day of the Show.

2. The leading rein is to be attached to noseband only and rein is to be held in the left hand of the person leading the pony.

3. No spurs or whips permitted - the leader may carry a cane only.

4. String or false aids which assist the pony’s head position are not permitted.

5. The judge is to give a short work-out for each child at the walk and trot only.

6. The child should be capable of rising to the trot.

7. Exhibitors to advise the Arena Supervisor of the name and date of birth of the rider 24 hours prior to the scheduled start time of the class.

JUMPING CONTESTS

Correct attire for riders in jumping events is white or light coloured breeches and according to FEI regulations.The Committee may restrict riders in jumping classes to riding a maximum of three horses, galloways or ponies.First to fifth placegetters receive ribbons (unless otherwise specified).

WALKING THE COURSERiders of horses in the event about to be contested only are permitted to walk the course. No other person will be allowed into the arena. Riders are advised that entering and leaving the jumping arena must be by way of the trotting track and/or as instructed by an official.Failure to comply may result in a $50 fine.

GROUPS A, B and CThe course, obstacles, conditions and judging of each class will be such as the committee shall determine. The course, obstacles and conditions will, however, correspond in the main with those recognised by the FEI. The jumping arena will, when possible, be entirely enclosed, but if not, will be clearly marked with flags or some other easily recognised indicator. At all times the trotting track will be taken as outside the jumping arena. It will be the responsibility of all competitors to acquaint themselves with the extent of the arena and its markings before competing. Points for Most Successful Awards will be calculated on the following basis: First, 5 points; second, 4 points; third, 3 points; fourth, 2 points; fifth, 1 point.

FEESShowjumping exhibitors are to pay the nomination fee only as stated at the time of entry. The balance of entry fees, membership, stall and locker fees to be paid upon acceptance of the exhibit by both the Society and the exhibitor.

SCRATCHINGSCompetitors in all jumping classes must advise the Arena Co-ordinator of any scratchings at least one hour prior to the scheduled starting time of the event.Failure to notify of scratchings, may debar competitors from competing in further events.

WORLD CUP JUMPINGThe Federation Equestre Internationale has approved the staging of a World Cup Qualifier during the 2012 Royal Adelaide Show on Thursday, 13 September.The FEI Registration number of horses and riders in the World Cup must be submitted at the time of entry.If riders are competing in the World Cup and World Cup Warm Up classes only, RA&HS membership is not required.

COMPETITIVE EXHIBITORSConditions of Entry

HAZARD REPORTINGCompetitors must notify the Area/Pavilion Supervisor or the Venue Management Office immediately of any hazards detected. Hazards are any situation which has the potential to cause:1. Injury, illness or death to people or animals

either immediately or in the future2. Damage or destruction to property

INCIDENT REPORTINGCompetitors must notify the Area/Pavilion Supervisor or the Venue Management Office immediately an incident occurs which has resulted in:1. The injury, illness or death of any person or

animal 2. The damage, destruction or loss of property3. A near miss incident that could have resulted

in the consequences listed in 1 and 2

WASTE DISPOSALAll waste including liquids must be disposed of responsibly. Storm drains must not be used for the disposal of any waste.

HAZARD MINIMISATIONAll areas must be kept in a clean and tidy order with clearly defined and available access and exit routes at all times. Build up of combustible waste must be avoided.Care must be taken to minimise trip hazards and obstacles that people may walk into. Avoid laying unprotected cables or pipes on or above paths, walkways or roads.

HAZARDOUS MATERIALSThe RA&HS are to be advised of all hazardous materials that are to be brought onto the Showground. Appropriate warning signs and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) will need to be provided before allowing these materials on site.

MEDIA COMMENTSAny public comment on emergencies, incidents or other venue matters should only come from the RA&HS. The key media spokesperson for the RA&HS is the Marketing Manager.

DUTY OF CAREAll competitors have a “Duty of Care” to avoid exposing themselves or other people to situations which could lead to injury. This “Duty of Care” extends to the prevention of damage to property.

LIABILITY AND INDEMNITY1. Release Entry to and remaining on the Showground

is entirely at the risk of the Exhibitor and to the maximum extent permitted by law, the Exhibitor releases the Society (which term includes in this clause the Society’s officers, employees, members and agents), from all claims and demands of every kind resulting from any accident, damage or injury occurring at the Showground, and without limitation, the Exhibitor acknowledges:

(a) the Society has no responsibility or liability for any loss, damage or injury to or caused by any Exhibit;

(b) the Society has no responsibility or liability for any loss, damage or injury to or caused by any Exhibitor, his or her family, invitees and Agents;

(c) the Society has no responsibility or liability for any loss, damage or injury to a Motor Vehicle or any of its contents whilst it is located on the Showground; and

(d) without limiting Regulations 1 (a) and 1 (b) above, the Society has no responsibility or liability for any loss, damage or injury resulting from the sale, treatment, failure to treat, destruction, disposal or other dealing with any Exhibit, or for loss, damage or injury to any personal belongings, equipment or property brought onto the Showground.

2 Indemnity To the maximum extent permitted by law,

the Exhibitor must indemnify and keep indemnified the Society and its officers, employees, members and agents from and against all actions, claims, demands, losses, damages, costs, expenses and liabilities including without limitation, consequential loss and loss of profits for which the Society is or may be or become liable in respect of or arising from:

(a) loss, damage or injury to any person in connection with the Exhibit or the relevant Event;

(b) without limiting Regulation 2(a), loss, damage or injury to any other Exhibit or Exhibitor, his or her family, invitees, Agents, or to the property of the Society, or its members, or to the general public, caused or contributed to or by any act or omission of an Exhibit of the Exhibitor or by the Exhibitor, his or her family, invitees or Agents; and

(c) without limiting Regulation 2(a), loss, damage or injury to the Exhibit, or the Exhibitor, his or her family, invitees, or Agents caused or contributed by an act or omission of an Exhibit of the Exhibitor or by the transportation, feeding or housing of an Exhibit of the Exhibitor.

3 Removal from Showground Without prejudice to any other provision

in these Regulations, where the Society, its officers, employees, members or agents removes an Exhibit, or causes an Exhibit to be removed from the Showground, the Exhibit is removed or caused to be removed entirely at the risk of the Exhibitor. The person or persons removing the Exhibit will be deemed to be the agent of the Exhibitor, and his or her acts and omissions will be deemed to be the acts and omissions of the Exhibitor.

4. Insurance The Society will arrange Compulsory Owner’s

Liability insurance cover for all Exhibitors of Exhibits being animals. The Exhibitor is bound by the terms and conditions of this insurance and by Statutory Duties as defined under the Insurance Contracts Act (1984). Details of the Compulsory Owner’s Liability insurance are set out in the Relevant Schedule

5. Personal effects The Society has no responsibility or liability

for any loss or damage caused to personal belongings, equipment or property which is brought onto the Showground by an Exhibitor, his or her family, invitees or Agents.

EMERGENCY INFORMATIONEmergency information and Emergency Assembly Points for the various animal pavilions and stables will be included with Exhibitor Entry Detail Returns and Notice to Exhibitor mail outs. Competitors should be familiar with these plans.

FIRST AIDDuring the Royal Adelaide Show, St John Ambulance provides First Aid Services but it is suggested that competitors have a basic First Aid kit if minor injuries are a possibility.

RA&HS EMERGENCY FACILITIESFire fighting and other emergency equipment must not be removed or used for any other purpose. Missing or unserviceable equipment should be reported to the Venue Management Office immediately.

SMOKINGThe RA&HS Smoking Code does not permit smoking inside buildings, within 10 metres of a building entrance, around combustibles, during public performances or while handling hazardous materials.

TRAFFIC CONTROLThe RA&HS Traffic Control Code imposes speed restrictions within the Showground. For the duration of the Royal Adelaide Show the speed limit is 10 kph.The use of vehicles inside the Showground is closely managed during the Royal Adelaide Show. Conditions of entry will be provided with the issue of Vehicle Entry Permits.

ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT1. All extension cords and electrical appliances

must be tested and tagged in accordance with current legislation as per Australian Standards 3760.

2. Power boards with overload protection can only be used at the discretion of the Venue Manager.

3. The use of double adaptors is strictly prohibited.

4. Appliances and power cables must not be used or laid through any area that may become wet.

5. Power cables must not be laid across walkways, paths, roads or any area where damage could occur to the cable.

6. Bar (resistance) heaters are strictly prohibited.7. Light sockets must not be used for any other

purpose
