North Fork Valley CreatiVe DireCtory
North Fork Valley Creative Coalition
History
the NFV Creative Coalition was formed in early 2011 by a group of individual artists, business owners, arts organizations, and art supporters, who came together following a series of conversations called North Fork Vision 2020, in which participants identified five sectors (energy, arts, health, education and agriculture) which contribute to the vibrant and sustainable future of the North Fork Valley.
the Valley is peppered with the studios and home workshops of traditional artists (weavers, blacksmiths, carvers, quilters...), fine artists (potters, painters, photographers, & sculptors), writers, performing artists (dramatists, dancers, musicians) and technological artists (filmmakers, graphic designers, architects, & web designers), as well as culinary artists and creators of value-added agricultural products.
in March 2012, the North Fork Valley was designated as an emerging Creative District by Governor Hickenlooper (one of fifteen communities designated out of an application pool of forty nine).
Our Purpose
• To increase the capacity and scope of influence of the Creative Sector in the North Fork Valley.
• To support networking, communication, and community among creative practitioners.
• To build and empower teams which will take action steps to benefit the creative practitioners, communities and economy of the North Fork Valley.
Our Vision
We envision a creative valley:
• A valley nurturing a thriving economy with diverse businesses, vibrant towns and people supporting their families by their passionate and creative labors.
• A valley with strong communities - both geographic neighborhoods and interest-based networks where people support each other, share information and fun, and recognize that collaboration benefits individuals and strengthens the larger community.
• A valley recognized near and far as a hotbed of art, wine, agriculture, energy resources, natural beauty, learning, and wholesome living.

Description of NFV Creative DistrictFrom the snows of Grand Mesa and The West Elks, running water cuts mesas, arroyos and lush valleys as it forms the North Fork of the Gunnison River. The soul of the land becomes the soul of our culture through the metaphor of story, art, song, celebration, and lovingly grown, prepared and shared meals and beverages. The NFV is rich in its diversity of landscape, agriculture, recreation and creative residents.
Half of the 6,000 NFV residents dwell in the towns of:
Hotchkiss• (“the Friendliest Town Around,” hosts The Creamery Arts Center, Delta County Fairgrounds, and the artsiest laundromat in the West)
Paonia• (hosts KVNF Public Radio, The Blue Sage Center for the Arts, Paradise Theatre, and Lands End Sculpture Foundry)Crawford• (the Gateway to the Black Canyon, home of Davis Glass Blowing)
Enjoy the creativity of The North Fork Valley - festivals, artists, performers, agricultural and culinary artists.
