PARKER POLICE DEPARTMENT - Officer Dawn Cash-
man presented the program on July 28 and described the many
community-related activities of the department. Among her
many responsibilities are teaching Emergency Management,
Emergency Preparedness, and the popular Citizen Police Acade-
my. The Citizen Police Academy gives participants first-hand
information about how the Police Department operates. Classes
focus on criminal law, the drug task force, evidence, dispatch,
traffic laws, accident reconstruction, DUI laws, Taser demon-
strations, D.A.R.E. and many other topics. This program re-
quires a commitment of four hours every Thursday for ten
weeks.
Office Cashman has served the Parker Police Department for about six years, and for the past
three years she has served in a dual capacity as Crime Prevention Office and Community Re-
source Officer. Among her responsibilities are the Neighborhood Watch Program, the Na-
tional Night Out, Security Assessments, first aid instructor, and Police Training Officer.
Dawn is married to Casey Cashman, who is also a Parker Police Officer.

WHAT PAUL HARRIS SAID
An Oasis in the Desert Fellowship is the glue that holds Rotary Clubs together. Paul Harris knew this from Day 1. Some might consider it a selfish reason to join for the friendships, but having friends is as im-portant to one’s health as breathing. Harris rejoiced in the fellowship of Rotary, and he wanted every Rotarian to rejoice with him. “In the social desert of a city, they possessed an oasis all their own. To it the chosen few came to revel in the delights of friendly communion. No longer would any of them have occasion to dream in city parks and public places of happy days gone by; the „Happy days had come again.‟”

THIS WEEK’S PROGRAM August 4th program -- The Character and
Life of Theodore Roosevelt (as por-
trayed by Don Moon)
The portrayal of Theodore Roosevelt takes
on his personal, political and civic life. T.R.
was fascinated by the natural world and
man's involvement in it. He wanted to be a nat-
ural scientist and studied nature at his home
in Oyster Bay and in the Adirondacks as a
youth. His time in the wilderness, after his
wife and mother died, was a watershed in the
development of his love of this country and
its wonders. T.R. was a consummate politician
and had been schooled by his father and
mother to be a leader, nothing but the best
effort was due. His peers recognized his
skills, sharpened by Harvard and his experi-
ences in the west, and they urged him on to a
life of service.
Sergeant-at-Arms Frank Gibbs is
really paying attention this time,
but he can’t believe that Steve is
going to read all of that in one mi-
nute! Photographer Jim Boyd al-
ways gets great shots of Frank.
Another group of construction workers looking
very suave and debonair.
FOUNDATION GIVING

A GARY MERAZ TRUE STORY
A guy sees a beautiful woman at the other end of the bar.
He walks up to her and says, “Where have you been all my
life?”
“Well,” she says, “for the first half of it, I wasn’t even born.”
Types of Membership
There are two types of Rotary club membership — active and honorary. An active member is one who has been elected to membership in the club under a classification of business or profession and enjoys all the obligations, responsibilities, and privileges of membership as provided in the RI constitution and bylaws. Active members may hold office in their clubs and serve RI at the district and international levels. They are expected to meet attendance requirements, pay dues, and bring new members into Rotary. Honorary Rotary membership may be offered to people who have distinguished themselves by meritorious service in the furtherance of Rotary ideals. An honorary member is elected for one year only, and continuing membership must be renewed annually. Honorary members cannot propose new members to the club or hold of-fice and are exempt from attendance requirements and club dues. Many distinguished heads of state, explorers, authors, musicians, astronauts, and other public personalities have been honorary members of Rotary clubs, including
John Gile, Al Johnson, President Jane,
and President-Elect/Membership Chair
Jo Stone attended the recent District
Membership Seminar. Jo is challenging
members to invite at least two guests
each this year.
