Principal’s report Welcome to our new Kindergarten students
How lovely it was to welcome lots of our new Kindergarten (2013) students and their families on Tuesday to our morning and afternoon teas. They all certainly look very ready for ‘big’ school and we look forward to the children visiting again in early Term 4 for our transition days.
Riverina Athletics
This Friday we have six of our children travelling to Albury to compete in the Riverina Athletics Carnival Our very best wishes to Ellie White, Makeeta Jenkins, Isaiah Field, Brooke Harpley, Riley Makeham and Blake Sutherland. A huge thank you to Mrs Zara Brookes who has assisted in training our high jumpers.
Wrapper-free Wednesday
A huge thank you to those families who are supporting our ‘Wrapper-free Wednesday.’ A Litter free lunch may include things like ...
Sandwich (cloth serviette/reusable container)
Yoghurt (from 2kg tub in re-useable container)
Sultanas (from 250g packet in re-useable container)
Piece of fruit
Cheese and crackers (in re-useable container)
Juice or water (in a re-useable drink bottle)
Well done to our leading class at the moment: Kindergarten!
Swimming Scheme
A reminder for students in Year 2-4 to get permission notes in by tomorrow if they wish to be included in our ‘Learn to swim’ program which commences next Monday. Students attending need to remember their swimmers, towel and a plastic bag in which to put wet clothing.
Garbage Bag Day
Today we had some very interesting creations made from garbage bags! Well done to all of the children who participated in this event – remember the main message we are trying to promote: “Don’t Litter!”
Spring Fair
A very productive Spring Fair meeting was held on Tuesday evening with lots of preparations commencing. Next week all families will receive a book of raffle tickets to sell. The major prizes this year are: 1st – outdoor furniture setting; 2nd – a water cooler; 3rd – a $50 Bunnings Voucher. We would appreciate as much support as possible for the Spring Fair which is the major fundraiser for our P&C. A reminder to lock in the date – Friday 19 October. We are looking forward to a great event but we need your help. Ways you can help are: sell lots of raffle tickets; offer to run a stall at the fair; send in a bottle of goodies on our Friday mufti days; come along to our next meeting on Tuesday 11 September and see how else you can help; invite lots of friends to come along to our fair! Remember the funds raised from this go directly into resources for your children.
REEC Visit
Next Tuesday the children from 3/4W and 4D have the opportunity to visit the Riverina Environmental Education Centre. A reminder that permission notes and money ($1) needs to be returned by Monday.
Head Lice
Unfortunately we appear to have entered the head-lice breeding season with several cases reported. Parents are asked to regularly check their child’s hair and if eggs or lice are discovered please treat appropriately. The following advice is from the NSW DEC website:
Head lice The facts
Head lice infestations are a common occurrence,
particularly in primary schools.
about 23% of primary students have head lice at
any one time
anyone can catch head lice regardless of their age,
sex, or how clean their hair is
head lice move from one person's head to another
via hair
head lice do not survive long when they are off a
human head
head lice do not live on furniture, hats, bedding or
carpet

head lice have built up some resistance to head
lice treatments Treatment
daily combing of white hair conditioner using a
fine tooth comb is effective in getting rid of head
lice and eggs (nits) Tips for parents in reducing the spread of head lice
As infestations are particularly common in primary
schools, it is best to choose a treatment that can be
used over time. There is no single solution to
eradication, only persistence.
regularly check your children's hair
teach older children to check their own hair
tie back and braid long hair
keep a fine tooth head lice comb in the bathroom
and encourage all family members to use it when
they wash their hair.
Baby News!
A very special congratulations to Mrs Jones and her husband Ray, on the impending birth of their very first baby. Luckily for us, Mrs Jones had timed this beautifully with the baby due in the new year!

P&C News REMINDER: working bee this Saturday, 1 September, commencing at 9:00 am. Come along and lend a helping hand.
We will be adding more bark to our playground equipment area; putting fresh sand into the sand pit and cleaning up under the main building.
