3.7- OR 3.5-LITRE, 24-VALVE, SOHC, VTEC® V-6 ENGINE

For the ultimate blend of performance and power, TL models with Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™(SH-AWD®) are propelled by a 3.7-litre, VTEC V-6 engine. Not only is this the most powerful Acuraengine on the road right now, but it’s also one of the most advanced. But there’s also an equallyadrenaline-friendly 3.5-litre, VTEC V-6 engine to consider. Both engines feature Multi-PointProgrammed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI®) to calculate the precise air/fuel ratio for optimum power output. And both engines are forged in aluminum for lightweight efficiency, better heat dissipation and improved durability.

EFFICIENT HORSEPOWER AND TORQUE

When it comes to horsepower and torque, the TL rises to the occasion in ways that no other Acura can. From the 305 hp and 273 lb.-ft. of torque produced by the available 3.7-litre VTEC power plant, to the 280 hp and 254 lb.-ft. of torque offered by the 3.5-litre VTEC engine, there’s plenty of power to go around. With innovative VTEC engine refinement and other powerband enhancements, the broad flat-torque curve allows for virtually instant and endless acceleration. The newly standard 6-speed automatic transmission gives added performance and increased fuel efficiency, while the available 6-speed manual transmission* provides heightened control.

VTEC

The TL’s performance-inspired Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC) engine utilizes two entirely different camshaft profiles to offer you amazingly responsive power across the complete rpm range. Off the line, the engine provides lower valve lift and a shorter cam profile opening, resulting in higher fuel velocities and greater low-end torque. As your demand for engine speed increases, VTEC switches to a cam profile with a higher valve lift and a longer opening duration, resulting in greater airflow and a bigger boost of high-end horsepower.

SPORT SUSPENSION

The TL’s 4-wheel independent front double-wishbone and rear multi-link suspension system offers you the kind of stability and flat cornering response you might expect. The front suspension utilizes a short upper arm for maximum grip and turning compression while a high-placed lower suspension arm delivers superb vehicle control with a stiffer steering feel. The rear suspension features a precision pillow joint for enhanced handling and stability. Further handling prowess comes from the TL’s oversized front and rear stabilizer bars for quick, flat cornering and a dose of exhilaration.

PADDLE SHIFTERS

The thrill of manual up-and-down gear-shifting performance and control at your fingertips is truly something to behold. You’ll find paddle-shifting transmission controls mounted just behind the TL’s leather-wrapped steering wheel that are designed to add an extra boost of race-inspired excitement to the already quick-shifting 6-speed automatic transmission.

HANDLING

STRAIGHT-LINE ACCELERATION

The SH-AWD system offers dramatically enhanced traction, control and vehicle acceleration in all kinds of conditions. Accelerate, and the system directs increased torque to the rear wheels to deliver full power to the ground.

MODERATE CORNERING

SH-AWD delivers a remarkably neutral steering feel as the rear wheels help generate cornering power. Electronic sensors monitor the speed and tightness of turns and automatically vary the amount of rear-wheel torque up to 60%, resulting in enhanced stability and control.

ACCELERATING THROUGH CORNERS

Here, the advanced SH-AWD technology stands alone. The outside cornering wheel gets up to 100% of the rear-wheel torque and is accelerated to rotate faster than the inside cornering wheel, providing greater turning force and an incredibly stable corner line.

STRAIGHT-LINE CRUISING

SH-AWD’s sophisticated electronic controls automatically monitor road conditions and alternate torque from front to rear, as well as splitting rear-wheel torque from left to right. The end result is a continuously smooth, confident ride in poor weather or on less-than-perfect road conditions.

CONTROLLED CONFIDENCE

Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD). Precision-tuned

and optimized for the Acura TL, the available SH-AWD system is

the difference between taking turns and cutting them. It’s where

control instantly becomes confidence. It helps you gain more

traction when the weather is less than perfect and it encourages

you to carve absolutely perfect corners in every other condition.

AVAILABLE 18- AND 19-INCH WHEELS

Available performance 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with an 8-inch tread width strengthen the TL’s aggressive style, sporty appearance and your feel for the road. And for making an even bigger impression, 19-inch wheels are available exclusively with the TL SH-AWD Elite Package.

REARVIEW CAMERA*

Available with the TL Technology and Elite Packages, a rearview camera located in the rear spoiler shows a colour image of the area directly behind the vehicle with steering gridlines on your navigation-system screen. Plus, even if the navigation system is turned off, the camera is activated automatically when you engage reverse.

BLIND SPOT INFORMATION SYSTEM*

Available exclusively with the TL SH-AWD Elite Package, the blind spot information (BSI) system uses specialized radar technology to alert you of objects in adjacent lanes. Indicator lights appear when the system detects a vehicle entering either of your blind spots, and they will begin flashing if you use your turn signal in the direction of the detected vehicle. The system is designed to operate at both high and low speeds, so you’ll have added confidence wherever you go.

The TL’s available Acura Navigation System with trilingual Voice Recognition™ can pinpoint your location almost anywhere in North America or access its search directory for easy-to-follow driving directions. Recognizing up to 800 verbal commands, the system is equipped with trilingual voice-recognition software and features real-time directions by voice or on-screen map display. With an enhanced screen, the system can show you the most direct route to your destination, offer an alternative route or, should you have an appetite for something new, use the Zagat® Survey ratings to help you find a restaurant. And with the 60 GB hard disk drive (HDD), you’ll find it operates with even greater speed.

HANDSFREELINK™ AND BLUETOOTH®- ENABLED TECHNOLOGY

Stay connected and in control without ever having to take your hands off the wheel or your eyes off the road. Simply program and link your Bluetooth-enabled wireless device to the HandsFreeLink mobile phone interface to make, receive and transfer calls from your phone without interruption or having to remove your hands from the steering wheel. Just say the word and – providing your programmed mobile phone is located inside the cabin – calling numbers will be displayed, your phone will respond to voice activation and you will hear the caller’s voice over the TL audio system. What’s more, the system operates in English, French and Spanish and is capable of integrating up to six compatible phones.

VOICE-ACTIVATED CONTROL

A majority of the advanced functions and features available with the Technology Package and Elite Package can be controlled just by the sound of your voice. Press the steering wheel-mounted voice control button to set or adjust the dual-zone automatic climate control, audio system or to explore the world through your navigation system.

POWER-ADJUSTABLE HEATED FRONT SEATS

Even the most uncivilized commutes will feel more luxurious when you’re sitting comfortably in one of the TL’s two tightly bolstered perforated leather-trimmed heated front seats. For drivers the ideal seating position is never far away thanks to a 10-way power adjustment driver’s seat including 2-way power lumbar support and 2-position memory. The TL’s advanced dual-zone, dual-mode adaptive climate control system automatically maintainstemperature levels in two different zones inside the cabin. ACURA/ELS SURROUND® PREMIUM AUDIO SYSTEM

The first of its kind in a production automobile, the TL’s available multi-channel surround sound system was developed in part with Grammy® Award-winning producer and sound engineer Elliot Scheiner. This 10-speaker 6-channel system delivers an astonishing 440 watts of rich audio sound power throughout the cabin. Plus, the in-dash 1-disc CD with DVD-Audio, Dolby® Pro Logic™ II and DTS®, with MP3 and Windows Media® Audio capabilities, allows you to enjoy your music in the format of your choice. Add to that the experience of steering wheel-mounted audio controls or available voice-activated audio control, and you’ve got the makings of the ultimate audio system.

HARD DISK DRIVE (HDD)

As much as the TL’s available navigation system can inform, it also likes to entertain. The system’s 15 GB hard disk drive (HDD) contains enough storage space for you to record and store more than 3500 songs. Simply insert your CD into the system’s single-disc slot and your music will be automatically uploaded into the database as it plays. And with disc and track information provided through the Gracenote® interface, you can easily scan to your preferred music based on title, artist or genre.

ACE™

The innovative Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE) body structure adopts a high-tensile, high-efficiency unit-body safety cell structure to provide enhanced protection from multi-directional collision. ACE reduces the concentrated force of a frontal impact by absorbing energy over a large area and dispersing it away from you and other occupants inside the interior cabin space. Additionally, ACE is also designed to help reduce occupant injuries caused by misalignment in collisions between vehicles of different sizes.

MAINTENANCE MINDER SYSTEM

Instead of following a traditional kilometre-and-calendar maintenance schedule, the TL instinctively calculates service needs based on your driving habits. This advanced system takes into account engine revolutions, stop-and-go traffic experience, weather extremes and the frequency of short trips to determine when your next service visit should be. The system helps coordinate oil-servicing dates and other routine maintenance as well.

AIRBAGS

The TL’s six airbags are designed to protect all occupants inside the cabin. Depending on the point and force of impact, the TL will deploy dual- stage, dual-threshold front airbags that activate at one of two rates depending on the severity of the impact; front side airbags with the innovative passenger-side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS) that will not release if the system detects a small-size or improperly positioned passenger; and side curtain airbags with a state-of-the-art rollover sensor.

VSA®

Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) with Traction Control will automatically detect and correct understeer or oversteer situations before you’re even aware there’s a need. The system intuitively monitors your driving conditions and automatically reduces the throttle and/or applies braking to individual wheels. Should a loss of traction occur during acceleration on slippery road surfaces, Traction Control will help compensate to get you safely underway.

ABS

The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) helps maintain steering control when braking hard on wet, slippery or loose surfaces, while Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) balances braking forces at eachwheel to help compensate for weight distribution inside the cabin. Plus, there’s a Brake Assist feature that senses a panic stop and applies maximum braking power to help you stop quickly.
