TwoseasonsintohiscareeratSimpson,RyanSanderhasreturnedtheStormtoatop-tierforceintheIowaConference.
Afterenduringaseven-wincampaigninhisfirstyearonthesidelines,SanderguidedtheStormtoa13-6-2markin2011,athird-placefinishintheleagueandatriptotheconferencetournamentsemifinals.Intwoseasons,Sanderis20-17-3.
SandercametoSimpsonfromWaukeeHighSchool.From2002to2011,SandercoachedtheWarriorstoIowaStateTournamentappearancesin8ofhis10yearsatthehelm.HisteamsfinishedlowerthansecondintheCIML-Iowaonlyonce,capturingaconferencechampionshipin2004whilefinishingasthestaterunner-upin2002and2011.
SandergraduatedfromIowaStatein2004withaBachelorofFineArtsininteriordesign.
Heandhiswife,Elizabeth,resideinWaukeewiththeirdaughter,Sydneyandson,Isaac.

ATHLETIC FACILITIES PlayingatSimpsongivesyouaccesstosomeofthebestathleticfacilitiesintheIowaConferenceandtheMidwest.
Newin2011,SimpsonreplacedthetrackandturfinsideBillBuxtonStadiumtoprovidestudent-athletestheopportunitytocompeteonthenation’sfinestplayingsurfaces.InstalledonthefieldwasaFieldTurfRevolutionplayingsurface,thefirstofitskindtoappearintheMidwest.Thetrackisafull-pour,10-millimetertrackfromBeynon,thesamesurfacefoundattheUniversityofIowa.
Simpson’smainindoorfacilities,theCarseFitnessCenterandtheCowlesCenter,houseavarietyofdifferentamenitiesfortraining,strengthandconditioningandrecreation.Simpson’sindoorfacilitiesincludea5,000square-footweightroom,acompetitionfieldhouseforbasketballandvolleyball,racquetballcourts,awrestlingroom,a25-meterswimmingpool,lockerroomsandindoorbattingcages.
OtheroutdoorvenuesincludeDickandNancyBuxtonMemorialTennisCourts,McBrideBaseballFieldandtheSimpsonSoftballComplex.Simpson’sgolfteamspracticeandcompeteattheIndianolaCountryClub.
KENT CAMPUS CENTER Inthefallof2010,Simpson’sboardoftrusteesvotedunanimouslytoconstructanew$14millionstudentcenter.TheKentCampusCenterwillhouseacoffeeshop,alternativeeatingoptions,spaceforconcerts,banquets,meetingsandadditionalofficespaceforcampusdepartments,includingtheCenterforVocationandIntegrativeLearning.ConstructionissettobegininSummer2011withanexpectedcompletiondateofFall2012.

STUDENT-ATHLETE SUPPORTStrength & Conditioning
Simpson’sstrengthandconditioningprogramwillbeanimportantelementinyourathleticexperienceatthecollege.Simpson’scertifiedstrengthandconditioningstaffwillworkwithyoutobuildafitnessplanthatcanreducetheriskofinjuryandimproveyourathleticperformance.
Athletic Training
TheathletictrainingstaffatSimpsonrealizesthatinordertohaveasuccessfulseason,thetoppriorityforparentsandcoachesistheathlete’shealth.Thefourcertifiedathletictrainersonstaffandtheir30studentsprovidequalityhealthcaretoover500athletes.Tohelpkeepcostsdown,theyevaluate,treat,andrehabilitateallathletesoncampus.Inaddition,twoteamphysiciansroutinelyvisitthetrainingroomtoevaluateathletesanddeterminetheneedforfurthertestingandcare.
BUILDING LEADERSHIP SKILLSNCAA CHAMPS/Life Skills
SimpsonisoneofonlytwoDivisionIIIschoolsinIowatoparticipateintheNCAACHAMPS/LifeSkillsprogram.
SomeofthehighlightsofSimpson’sprograminclude:•Academicassistancethroughstudytablesforfirst-yearstudentsandtutorsforindividualsubjects
•Leadership,characterandprofessionaldevelopmentthroughseminarsandguestspeakers
•CommunityserviceopportunitieswiththeSpecialOlympicsandotheragenciesthatprovideprogrammingforstudentswithspecialneeds
•Mentoringprogramthatprovidessupportforfirst-yearstudentsbypairingthemwithanupper-classstudent
SAAC
TheStudent-AthleteAdvisoryCouncil(SAAC)isonewayforyoutogetinvolvedinathleticsbeyondyoursportsteam.AsaSAACmember,you’llbeapartofaleadershipgroupthatprovidesavoiceforstudent-athletesatthecollegeandwithintheNCAA.SAACmembersarefocusedonfosteringpositiveimagesofathletesandoftenplanactivitiesoncampus.Inthepast,athletesonthecommitteehaveplannedSpiritDay,NationalStudent-AthleteDayandcommunityserviceevents.
