Driver’s seat adjustment A height-adjustable driver’s seat can make the difference between comfort and leg cramps. Yaris LE has this feature. Fit doesn’t. GREAT VALUE PROPOSITION Entry subcompact buyers expect a lot, but they still require a strong value story—and Yaris makes economic sense from many perspectives. Low starting price Not only is Yaris LE competitively priced, but the 3-door and 5-door L models are even more affordable. Fit doesn’t offer these choices. Toyota Care ®3 Honda doesn’t offer a maintenance program like Toyota Care, so the first two years of Fit service come out of the owner’s pocket. Fuel economy Yaris has better city and combined fuel economy ratings than Fit, and at today’s fuel prices, every mpg counts. OUTSTANDING MANEUVERABILITY One of the best features of a subcompact is maneuverability, and Yaris wins this category hands down. Shorter overall length Parallel parking will be notably easier in the Yaris because it’s eight inches shorter, bumper-to bumper. Much tighter turning circle Wiggling in and out of tight spaces will be simple in the Yaris because its turning circle is nearly four feet smaller. Light on its feet Yaris weighs a whopping 260 pounds less than Fit, and that means it may feel more nimble and lively. NEW SAFETY TECHNOLOGY Toyota went over and above the expected safety features with Yaris. Driver’s knee airbag 1 This is a reassuring supplemental safety feature you won’t find on the Honda Fit. Driver and front-passenger seat-cushion airbags 1 A unique new addition that is designed to help keep the driver and front passenger safe in their seats. These airbags aren’t offered on Fit. Star Safety System Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRAC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA) and Smart Stop Technology (SST) are now all standard on the new Yaris. Fit can’t beat this inventory of safety features. The Honda Fit was completely redesigned back in 2009. And that proved to be a case of good timing, as the new-and- improved Honda arrived just as gasoline prices were at their peak. Three years later, Fit hasn’t changed much, but it is still a strong competitor. Reputation and good media reviews have kept it on entry subcompact shopping lists. But the 2012 Yaris takes on the Fit with its modern new styling, improved interior, expanded cabin and long list of standard safety features. Add new audio technology and a comprehensive inventory of comfort and convenience features, and Honda cross-shoppers are going to think twice about the Fit. Just as important, the Toyota offers choices in body style and trim level that you won’t get from Honda, and there are some fundamental engineering advantages that will attract people looking for a fun, stylish, economical and confidence-inspiring small car. The 2012 Honda Fit is offered in two grades: Base and Sport. And both models are only available in a 5-door hatchback body style. The Base has equipment that places it between the entry-level Yaris L and the mid-level LE. The Sport has bigger wheels and tires, fog lights, a security system, spoilers and a slightly better audio system. It’s also available with navigation, and choosing navigation is the only way to get factory Bluetooth™ technology. The Sport is comparable with the Yaris SE. Both Honda models can be equipped with either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission.

Shorter overall length

City streets, tight garages and the coveted parallel parking space—in any urban environment, a car with compact dimensions is a real luxury. And when it comes to the key measure of bumper-to-bumper length, Yaris is more than eight inches shorter—a handy difference.

Much tighter turning circle

Maneuvering in tight spaces often comes down to a matter of mere inches, but Yaris gives the driver an advantage measured in feet when it comes to the turning circle. Yaris can execute an amazingly tight U-turn and thread its way through city streets like few other cars on the road.

Less weight means the engine, transmission, tires, brakes and suspension don’t have to work as hard. Plus, the Honda’s extra horsepower is basically cancelled by a 262-pound penalty in curb weight.

Major audio advantages

The Yaris LE audio system has the features and functions you would expect from an expensive car. For example, Honda requires that you buy the costly Fit Sport with Navigation to get the same level of audio technology. The Fit base model doesn’t even offer high-end audio.

bluetooth® technology

Yaris LE doesn’t just have a well-equipped audio system, it also offers comprehensive telematics features—plus streaming music from the Bluetooth® technology. Honda makes you buy the most expensive Fit Sport with Navigation to reach this level of features.

Driver’s seat adjustment

Something as simple as a height-adjustable driver’s seat can help make a customer’s decision. In the Yaris LE, drivers of most any height will find a comfortable driving position. In the Honda Fit, the low seat could be a serious drawback.

By offering three trim levels, L, LE and SE, Toyota gives the buyer a wider range of starting prices. The Fit only has two trim levels, and neither of them offers the value of Yaris L, the most affordable way to buy a brand-new Toyota.

Lower cost of ownership is one of the benefits of an entry subcompact, and Toyota makes a good financial argument by including complimentary factory-scheduled maintenance for two years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first.

fuel economy

Because Fit is an older, heavier vehicle, it can’t beat Yaris on estimated fuel economy ratings. In fact, Yaris could save money over the long haul with its excellent fuel economy figures—especially if a customer chooses a manual-transmission vehicle.

1. All the airbag (AB) systems are Supplemental Restraint Systems. All ABs (if installed) are designed to inflate only under certain conditions and in certain types of severe collisions: frontal and knee ABs typically inflate in frontal collisions; side and side curtain ABs in side collisions; Roll-Sensing Curtain ABs at a severe tilt degree, roll or lateral G-force. In all other accidents, the ABs will not inflate. To decrease the risk of injury from an inflating AB, always wear seatbelts, sit upright in the middle of the seat as far back as possible and do not lean against the door. Do not put objects in front of an AB or around the seatback. Do not use a rearward-facing child seat in any front passenger seat. The force of an inflating AB may cause serious injury or death. See your Owner’s Manual for further information/warnings. 2. iPod® is a registered trademark of Apple, Inc. All rights reserved. 3. Covers normal factory scheduled service. Plan is 2 years or 25K miles, whichever comes first. The new Toyota vehicle cannot be part of a rental or commercial fleet, or a livery or taxi vehicle. See plan for complete coverage details. See participating Toyota dealer for details. Roadside assistance is for 2 years unlimited mileage and does not include parts and fluids. 4. MSRP includes delivery, processing and handling fee. Excludes taxes, license, title and available or regionally required equipment. Actual dealer price may vary. 5. Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) is an electronic system designed to help the driver maintain vehicle control under adverse conditions. It is not a substitute for safe driving practices. Factors including speed, road conditions and driver steering input can all affect whether VSC will be effective in preventing a loss of control. Please see your Owner’s Manual for further details. 6. Brake Assist is designed to help the driver take full advantage of the benefits of ABS. It is not a substitute for safe driving practices. Braking effectiveness also depends on proper brake-system maintenance and tire and road conditions. 7. Smart Stop Technology operates only in the event of certain simultaneous brake and gas pedal applications. When engaged, the system will reduce engine power to help the brakes bring the vehicle to a stop. Factors including speed, road conditions and driver input can all impact stopping distance. Smart Stop Technology is not a substitute for safe and attentive driving and does not guarantee instant stopping. Please see your Owner’s Manual for further details. 8. 2011 EPA-estimated mpg. Actual mileage will vary.
