Happy New Year!

It is a privilege to be starting this new year with you! I am excited to see what 2012 will ha

in store for Philippi Baptist. In February, we start our third year together in ministry. I wan

to thank you all for your generous Christmas Gift, your thoughtful cards, and words of encagement. We are blessed in so many ways. I ran across a poem that gives great insight into

this new year:

Anot her Year I s Dawni ngAnother year is dawning,

Dear Master, let it be,

In working, or in waiting,Another year with Thee.

Another year of mercies,

Of faithfulness and grace;Another year of gladness

In the shining of Thy face.

Another year of progress,Another year of praise,

Another year of provingThy presence all the days.

Another year of service,

Of witness of Thy love,Another year of training

For holier work above.

Another year is dawning,Dear Master, let it be

On earth, or else in heavenAnother year for Thee.

--Francis Ridley Havergal (1874)

So in working or in waiting, may we allow God to reign supreme in our lives! I'll give the prop

Jeremiah our final word for the start of this year!

Lamentations 3:22-24

The unfailing love of the LORD never ends! By his mercies we have been kept from complete de struction. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each day. I say to myself, " The LORD

my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!" (NASB)

Shalom, Pastor Jon

A BIG THANK YOU FOR SOMEONE SO DEAR TO OUR CHURCH FAMILY

Elsie Frye would like to thank her church family so very much for the generous and thought-

ful gift she received from her church family. ___________________________________________________________________________

Elsie is a blessing to us all and we appreciate all she does for the church so selflessly. It is

her bright and smiling face that greets us all and never lets a child go by without shaking her hand. I believe she is trying at the same time to teach them to respect others. Thank you

Miss Elsie! You are greatly appreciated!

On the Road Again

Whether it’s a holiday weekend in Knoxville,

where Logan’s parents live, or a romp in the sat Sunset Beach, North Carolina, where Laure

parents live, or a visit with Lauren’s sister in B

timore or Logan’s brother in St. Louis, or mayanother tour with the Concert Choir or the We

Virginians or the Jazz Ensemble, the Lindseyfamily is constantly on the go.

Lauren grew up in Romney and graduated from Alderson-Broaddus with a degree in Music Edu

tion. She earned her master’s degree at Illinois State University and then, after teaching in

Danville, Illinois, headed for the University of Southern Mississippi to work on her doctorate inChoral Conducting. It was there that she and Logan met.

Logan grew up on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi and earned his bachelor’s degree at SouthernMississippi, his master’s at the University of South Dakota. He and Lauren were married in 20

Finally, they came back where they belonged—West Virginia--, and this is where they hope to s

Nina, a dead ringer for both of her parents, was born here in 2010.

In addition to directing four choral groups—including The West Virginians—Lauren, AssistantProfessor at A-B, teaches Music History, Conducting, and the introductory freshman music cour

Logan teaches tuba and euphonium and directs the Jazz Ensemble. He also teaches privatelessons.

Having joined Philippi Baptist Church in the fall of 2011, the Lindseys say that they are glad to

part of the congregation. “It’s like family,” Lauren says. “We immediately felt welcome, and wfelt that even though we wouldn’t be able to attend regularly—because of touring with the grou

we conduct--we might have something to contribute. And we know we’ll receive.”

Along with helping with Wee Church, the Lindseys see themselves involved in assisting withworship services, and Logan smiles and says, “I’m willing to help with whatever needs to be do

I’m a hands-on person and a people person.”

Obviously, the Lindseys—including Nina--are a great addition to the PBC congregation.
