Pay Information• Unclassified Employees are paid monthly• Pay day is on first of the month

– When the first falls on a weekend or holiday, the pay date is the business day prior to the first

– The first pay check of the year is always after the first of the month (January 2nd or 3rd)

• Annual pay basis employees receive 12 checks per year

– August 1st, 2013– August 30th

– October 1st – November 1st – November 29th – January 2nd – January 31st

– February 28th – April 1st – May 1st

– May 30th – July 1st, 2014

Legal Holidays• State Offices are closed in observance of the following legal holidays:

– New Year’s Day (January 1)– Martin Luther King Day – Memorial Day– Independence Day (July 4)– Labor Day– Thanksgiving Day– Christmas Eve (December 24)– Christmas Day (December 25)– New Year’s Eve (December 31)

• If a holiday falls on a Sunday, state offices are closed the following Monday.

• If a holiday falls on Saturday, an additional day (prorated to percentage of appointment) will be granted to Annual (12 month) employees to be used during the current fiscal year with supervisor approval.

• Legal holidays must be used within the fiscal year they are earned or the hours will be forfeited

Mandatory Reporting Rule

• Executive Order #54 • All University of Wisconsin System employees must

immediately report child abuse or neglect if, in the course of employment, a UWS employee observes an incident or threat of child abuse or neglect, or learns of an incident or threat of child abuse or neglect, and the employee has reasonable cause to believe that child abuse or neglect has occurred or will occur.

• Reports must be made in person or by telephone to the following– UW-La Crosse University Police

• 789-9000 (office) • 789-9999 (for emergencies only) staffed 24 hrs

• Call 911 if the child is in imminent danger

FMLA, Worker’s Comp and EAP• Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA)

– If employee has been involved in an accident and/or injured in the course of employment, they should report the injury to their direct supervisor, complete the required forms and return them to HR

– Available to all employees and their immediate family members

– Provides 5 free consultations per year

Domestic Partner Benefits• Coverage for same-sex and opposite sex domestic partners and the domestic

partner’s children is available under most plans. • Two different types of domestic partnerships

– Unregistered• Available to both same-sex and opposite-sex couples in a domestic

partnership. • This is considered a domestic partnership for employee benefits provided

by Chapter 40 of Wisconsin State Statute. – Registered

• A registered domestic partnership is available only to same-sex couples. A domestic partner registry was created by Chapter 770 of Wisconsin State Statute.

• An employee may enroll a domestic partner in an allowable benefit program and must submit a completed and notarized

Affidavit of Domestic Partnership. • Additional enrollment information and options will be covered in our Benefit Orientation.

Leave Benefits• Sick Leave

– Eligible if participating in the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS).

– Granted 176 hours for first 18 months; then earn 96 hours per year (prorated to percentage of appointment).

– Accumulated sick leave is available to pay health insurance premiums upon retirement, death, or layoff.

• Vacation– Eligible if annual (12 month) appointment and participating in

Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS).– Eligible employees receive 176 hours per fiscal year (prorated

to percentage of appointment and employment date).• Floating/Personal Holidays

– Employees with annual (12 month) appointments receive 36 hours each fiscal year (prorated to percentage of appointment).

– Floating/personal holidays must be used within the fiscal year they are earned or they will be lost.

Leave Reports• Monthly Leave reports are delivered to My UW System

(HR) portal.• Reports must be completed regardless of whether leave

has been used. • Leave report signed and dated by both you and your

department chair/dean/direct supervisor.• Completed leave report(s) must be sent to Human

Resources by specified deadline stated on leave report. • Failure to return reports could result in a reduction of

your sick leave• Full time employees report leave in 4- or 8-hour

increments
