Letter froM the Board ChairManDear Friends,

What a year! The Republic County Community Foundation experienced its most successful year ever. Asset growth exceeded $360,000, boosting total assets to nearly $1,300,000!

The credit for such an outstanding year belongs to our donors’ tremendous generosity. We thank them for keeping their assets in RepublicCountyforthebenefitofourlocalcommunity. After all, there is no place like home.

We remain on track to take full advantage of the Kansas Health Foundation matching grant dollars. Keep in mind that current gifts totheFoundationmayqualifyforthefiftypercent(50%)matchinggrantdollars.Yourgiftof$100willimmediatelybecomea$150gift!

We are currently in the process of assisting several donors who wish to include the Republic County Community Foundation as a beneficiaryoftheirestateassets.

We would like to encourage other charitably inclined donors to considerleavingfivepercent(5%)oftheirestateassetstothefoundation. Based upon a recent wealth transfer study sponsored by the Kansas Health Foundation, Republic County will transfer over $137milliondollars($137,000,000)tothenextgenerationbetweennowandyear2020.Fivepercent(5%)wouldmakeatremendousimpact toward maintaining the quality of our rural community way of life. 2012-2013 donorsBUILDING FUNDS TODAY...The foundation could not exist without donors and is blessed every year with a multitude of generous donors. These gifts are contributed to a variety of funds here at the foundation and touch several different charitable causes. Some gifts are large, and some are small, but they all help build not only the foundation, but our community!

A charitable gift is a wonderful way to remember someone you love or admire. The foundation received gifts made in memory of others throughout the year. This year, gifts were received in memory of:

For donors who know exactly what or whom they want to support, designated funds are the answer. Donors establish an endowed fund for their favorite charity or charities. The Foundation administers annual grants from the fund, in the donor’s name, forever. In the event a designated charity no longer exists, the Foundation ensures that annual gifts are redirected to an appropriate charitable need, keeping in mind the donor’s original intent.

Built in 1884, the Cuba Blacksmith Shop is home to the dying art of blacksmithing. Now listed on the State and National Register of Historic Places, it is open for live demonstrations for tourist and community events.

One of the many services of the blacksmith shop included repairing and maintaining general farm machinery. Through a $750 grant from the Republic County Community Action Fund and other community volunteers, the Cuba Booster Club was able to install a new sidewalk and concrete slabs to display antique machinery. The display was completed in time for the July 20th Harvest Festival. -photo on page 9

By 2020, $137.9 million will transfer from one generation to the next in Republic County

If 5% or $6.9 million could be preserved in community foundation endowments, it would create close to $345,000 in annual grants to Republic County.

By 2064, $696.7 million will transfer from one generation to the next in Republic County.

The Kansas Association of Community Foundations' Transfer of Wealth research indicates:

Many people allocate their entire estate to their children, but as more people leave the communities where they were raised, much of this inherited wealth will leave Kansas. It’s increasingly important for Kansans to reinvest resources back into the places where they earned their living and enjoyed a good life.

If we Keep 5 in Kansasbycapturingjust5%ofthiswealthtransfer, up to $4 billion could go back into our towns by 2020. For each county, that’s millions of dollars that could be invested to provide sustainable funding for the causes that truly make a difference. Just imagine the possibilities for your community!
