CLOSING DATE IS SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 2013. (Time permitting Day of Test entries will also be taken.) CGC – What is the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test? It’s a wonderful opportunity to showcase your Ridgeback for the awesome dog he/she is. Our Ridgebacks are naturals. Any of our show dogs that have been tested have done so with no training as they do everything listed below at shows. Some have had to learn to lie down or sit but have done so very quickly. The CGC test is a certification program that tests dogs in simulated everyday situations. The dog must be 6 months of age. The test is comprised of ten steps as follows: 1. Accepting a friendly stranger 2. Sitting politely for petting 3. Appearance & grooming 4. Walking on a loose leash 5. Walking through a crowd 6. Sit & Down on command/Staying in place 7. Coming when called 8. Reaction to another dog 9. Reactions to distractions 10. Supervised separation

TDI – The AKC now offers the TDH title as an AKC title after the dog has made 50 therapy visits. You get a neat car magnet, button and badge. For dogs that have achieved their CGC and are one year of age, there are only 5 more steps for theTDH. They are: 1. Reaction to Medical equipment such as wheelchair, crutches, cane, walker. 2. Acclimation to informalities...dog is confident when exposed to people walking with an uneven gait, shuffling, breathing heavily,

coughing, or wheezing. 3. Leave it. Dog can walk over food on the ground and upon command the dog should ignore the food. 4. Say hello. Dog to greet a person sitting on a chair or wheelchair and stand close to the patient to be easily reached. 5. Reaction to children. The dog and children are not in direct contact but the children or child is in the room playing or running.

2 0 1 3 E N D U R A N C E T R I A L C O M P E T I T I O N

* Clinton State Park, Lawrence, Kansas * Wednesday *October 30, 2013 * Check-in 7:00 AM * $5.00 Parking Fee per car (more for RVs)

Rules: Dogs must be 2 years of age on the day of the event.

Groups will be spaced 10 minutes apart. Know which group you are in, and be ready.

There will be a 10-minute break between legs. As you come in from your 1st and 2

nd legs, a timer will yell your time to you.

It is YOUR responsibility to be at the vet checker location 5 minutes later for the dog’s vital signs to be checked. When it nears the end of the 10 minute rest, report to the timer. They will give you the go-ahead at the 10 minute mark. o Example: If you come in at 8:00, you must be at the vet location at 8:05 and back to the starting line at 8:09.

There will be a 5 minute break between the 2nd

and 3rd

leg of the trial. Once again, it is your responsibility to be at the checker’s location 5 minutes later to have your dog checked and be back at the line at the 15 minute mark.

As you finish each leg, you will be able to offer your dog water. Do not allow your dog to over-drink, which can cause bloat.

At the end of the 3rd

leg – DO NOT LEAVE THIS AREA. You must report to the vet checker’s location 5 and 15 minutes after you cross the finish line. The dog’s vital signs will be measured each time. o Example: If you cross the finish line at 11:00, you must be at the checker’s location at 11:05 and 11:15. In between

these times, allow your dog to rest, drink water, and recover.

After the final vet check, you must report to the obedience judge for the final obedience test.

Failure to be at the checker’s location or the starting line could result in your not receiving the RRCUS ET Title. WATCH YOUR TIMES. There will be a large visible clock at the starting line, and that clock will be the official time-keeper.

You must maintain an average pace of at least 6 miles per hour (10 minute miles). You must complete each 4-mile leg in no more than 40 minutes. If you go over time on any of the three legs, you will be allowed to finish, but you will not receive an Endurance Trial title.

If your dog is deemed unfit or unable to continue by the on-site veterinarian, that decision is final and you will be instructed to stop.

A Rosette will be given to each Rhodesian Ridgeback receiving earning a RRCUS Endurance Trial title.

NOTE: LURE COURSING ENTRIES

ARE LIMITED. To ensure entry in Lure Coursing & Tri, send in

your Lure Coursing entry immediately!

T R I A T H L O N R U L E S The scoring for The Triathlon will be based on scores earned in three events at the RRCUS National Specialty: Obedience, Lure Coursing and Conformation. Triathletes must score 50% of the available

points in each event to be eligible for awards. The points earned are described below.

NOTE: OBEDIENCE BEGINNER NOVICE CLASS IS NOT AN ELIGIBLE CLASS

FOR TRIATHLON SCORE.

OBEDIENCE: The Triathlon score for Obedience will be one half the score earned in one of the following classes: Novice, Graduate Novice, Veteran, Open, or Utility. If a Triathlete is entered in multiple Obedience classes, the highest score will be used. (Maximum score 100 pts.)

CONFORMATION: The Triathlon Conformation Judge will evaluate each entry according to the breed standard and record a score for each, without awarding placements or trophies. (Maximum score 100 pts.) Each Triathlete must also be entered in a single entry AKC Conformation class at the Specialty; Sweepstakes, Stud Dog, Brood Bitch, Brace, and Jr Showmanship classes are not eligible.

LURE COURSING: The Triathlon score for Lure Coursing will be the AKC score divided by two. (This assumes two judges. In the event that only one judge is used, an AKC score would not be divided.) Singles Stake entries are not eligible. (Maximum score 100 pts.)

To calculate the final Triathlon score, the points from the three events will be added and the dog or bitch with the highest combined score declared Best in Triathlon. The next five highest scoring dogs/bitches will be awarded the 1st through 5th Triathlon Select Awards. All Triathletes will receive a ribbon of thanks and congratulations for their efforts.

In the event of a tie in the Triathlon, a Tiebreaker Score will be calculated. The tied dogs performances in AKC Conformation shall be compared based on the number of dogs defeated (Bowen System) and the winner awarded 1 tiebreaker point. The tied dogs performances in Obedience shall be compared based on the score awarded by the judge and the winner awarded 1 tiebreaker point. The tied dogs performances in Coursing shall be compared based on the total score (prelim + final run) awarded by the judge(s) and the winner awarded 1 tiebreaker point. These points will be added and the dog with the highest Tiebreaker Score will be awarded the higher Triathlon placement. In the event that the Tiebreaker Scores are equal, the dog with the higher Triathlon Conformation score will win the higher Triathlon placement.

KENNEL STAKE: An entry shall consist of two hounds, designated at the time of entry, owned and living with the same person. The individual Triathlon scores of the two hounds will be added and the highest combined score will be awarded the Triathlon Kennel Stake Award.

BREEDER STAKE: An entry shall consist of two hounds, designated at the time of entry, bred or co-bred by the same person. The individual Triathlon scores of the two hounds will be added and the highest combined score will be awarded the Triathlon Breeder Stake Award.

- An owner or breeder may have more than one entry in the Kennel or Breeder Stakes. - A particular dog may be entered as part of both a Kennel and Breeder Stake,

but only once in each. Owners are strongly encouraged to show their own dogs. There will be no refunds after closing, except for bitches in season.

The judge is permitted to choose one Best of Breed, one Best of Opposite Sex, also one Select Dog and one Select Bitch. The awarding of an Award of Merit acknowledges that an animal was under consideration for the highest honors of BOB and BOS. By awarding additional Judge’s Awards of Merit, the judge is indicting his recognition of animals who would, on another day, merit a top award. The Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of the United States, Inc., permits, at the judge’s discretion, up to a total of ten (10) Awards.

Choke collars, pinch collars, electric and dummy collars are prohibited on the trial grounds. Training/chain collars are ‘choke’ collars and they are allowed on the grounds.

Be a RESPONSIBLE dog owner and exhibitor. Pick up after your dog on the grounds and at your hotel site and

encourage others to do the same.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! We would love to have your help make this trial a success!

Agility Trials require a lot of workers to run a successful trial. RRCUS is fortunate to have Club Members who volunteer their time to work our trials. There are those times when we do not have enough of our Club Members to help make our trial run smooth. If you are available to work the day of the trial and we do not have enough Club Members to work, we would like to be able to use your expertise. Please fill out the form below and return with your entry to the trial secretary.

Please check as appropriate:

NOTICES TO EXHIBITORS

The Trial Secretary must receive move-ups by 6:00 PM, CDT on October 21, 2013. Move-ups from Novice A to Novice B after closing are not permitted per AKC rules. Move-ups are also subject to any numerical limits in the higher class. Move-ups may be emailed to [email protected]. No telephone requests will be honored. Exhibitors are responsible for complete, accurate, and legible information on their entry forms. Illegible or incomplete entries cannot be entered in the trials. All entries must be made on an Official AKC Entry Form or copy and must include the agreements on the reverse. No entry shall be made and no entry shall be accepted which specifies any conditions as to its acceptance. Full and immediately negotiable funds must accompany each entry. Checks will be deposited if any of the entries accompanying it are accepted and refunds will be made for entries not accepted. The safety of the dogs is our primary concern. By entering this trial, exhibitors acknowledge that they are familiar with the rules and regulations of this sport, and that their dogs are familiar with and able to perform all obstacles safely. Puppies under 6 months are strictly prohibited from the grounds. Entry fees will not be refunded in the event that a dog is absent, disqualified, excused, or barred from competition by the action of the Trial Committee. It is expressly understood that exhibitors alone are responsible for the behavior of their dogs and/or children. Any exhibitor whose dogs and/or children create unnecessary disturbances or repeatedly engage in unsafe or disruptive behavior may, at the discretion of the Trial Committee, be asked to leave the Trial site. In such case, no refund of any fees paid will be made. No entry fee will be refunded if the trial cannot open or be completed by reason of riots civil disturbances, fire, an act of God, public emergency, act of a public enemy, or any other cause beyond the control of the Trial Committee. All dogs must be on a leash at all times except when in the ring or when in the designated agility warm-up area. Exhibitors are responsible for being at the ring gate when it is their turn to run. Since bitches in season are not permitted to compete in Agility Trials, the Club will refund all but eight dollars of the daily entry fee for bitches unable to compete for that reason. The Trial Secretary must be notified of such claim for refund by 6:00 PM, CDT, October 28, 2013. Documentation by a veterinarian is required. There will be no refunds under any other circumstances. Returned checks do not constitute a valid entry fee. The Trial Secretary will add a $25.00 collection fee to the amount of each returned check. Subsequent returned checks from the same exhibitors may result in their being put on a CASH ONLY basis. The Show Committee reserves the right to cancel the Trial in the event of extreme weather conditions.

If measured by the Judge of record, that measurement will be valid for this trial or back-to-back trials only. If a measurement is necessary, it is the exhibitor's responsibility to have their dog(s) measured prior to running.
