Each day we see hundreds of people coming here to the City Rescue Mission because they are in dire need of food or shelter. Most only know that their physical body is in need of nourishment because they are hungry or thirsty. They will come in for a meal in our dining hall or come to our Family Care Ministry for a bag of groceries to help when there just isn’t enough food to feed their family. When we greet and get to know our guests, we find that they are starving for spiritual nourishment as well. Once their immediate physical needs are met, we often get an opportunity to offer some spiritual food as well. Some will get spiritual meat while attending our daily chapel

services and others will be blessed by one-on-one spiritual counseling and prayer with our Family Care staff missionaries.

It never ceases to amaze me to see how God works through a simple meal or bag of groceries. He always multiplies this small gift of food or drink that we give to our guests so that it provides immediate help with an eternal impact.

I know that without the help of our generous donors and friends like you, we would not be able to care for those who need it most. Before you know it, our Thanksgiving food distribution will be upon us. Won’t you please help us to offer a small gift of food to those in need by donating the items listed below? Remember that hope does begin with a meal. Please help us to offer the Bread of Life and Living Water to quench the hunger and thirst of our neighbors in need.

staff is always nice, whether it is during a phone call or when I am here in person. They always treat you with respect and common courtesy. It feels comforting to be here. It is not like an office, it feels more like a home,” says Jaime.

Some people find it hard to accept the blessing of a food order because they struggle with pride, but each who come are encouraged to see the Family Care Ministry as an answer to their prayers. Everyone who comes for food assistance is offered spiritual counseling and prayer in addition to food. “When I come into the Family Care Ministry, they don’t just hand me a bag of food. Linda (Linda Krumpe, Director of our Family Care Ministry) will ask me what is troubling me and she will talk and pray with me. I know that she actually cares about me and my family because I can feel it. I get a lot out of this place,” says Jaime.

One of the best things that Jaime has received when coming to the Family Care Ministry is that she is learning about having a relationship with God. “Coming here for the prayer means a lot to me. Linda helped me to open my mind and my heart to letting God into my life. I now have a sense of hope and know that things are going to get better, because now I know that Jesus cares about me regardless of my circumstances. It feels so good to know that I came for a bag of food and I got so much more!”

Faith and FamilyThe MostUnusual Family Tree

If you think your family has problems, consider the marriage mayhem created when 76-year-old Bill Baker of London wed Edna Harvey.

She happened to be his granddaughter’s husband’s mother. That’s where the confusion began, according to Baker’s granddaughter, Lynn. “My mother-in-law is now my step-grandmother. My grandfather is now my stepfather-in-law. My mom is my sister-in-law and my brother is my nephew. But even crazier is that I’m now married to my uncle and my own children are my cousins” (Source: Campus Life).

Now you might not have a family tree like that, but if you’re like most families, there is an even greater potential for confusion on the horizon for your family. It happens when Mom and Dad pass away without a simple Estate Plan to pass along their values and valuables to the next generation.

Fortunately, this headache can be avoided by setting up what Christian financial expert Dave Ramsey calls a “Love Drawer.” A wonderful way to bless your family, a “Love Drawer” is simply where you keep all the documents your family will need in one place, such as your Will or Trust, Power of Attorney, and other financial and legal documents.

We trust that by taking this step, you will experience the truth that “God is not a God of confusion, but of peace.” (1 Corinthians 14:33)

Did You Know?Did you know that the City Rescue Mission no longer receives direct support from the United Way? You can ensure that your United Way contributions go to help the homeless and poor by specifically designating the City Rescue Mission to receive

part or all of your support when you complete your payroll deduction forms provided by your employer. As many United Way organizations deduct fees and limit the amount you can designate to a charity, it is always best to send your donation directly to the Mission. We make it easy for you! Just visit www.cityrescuemission.org/donate.

Learning How To Cook!

The kids at our Sankey Center learned how to make pretzels and the ladies at our Covenant House learned how to make casseroles during cooking classes hosted by some special volunteers.
