    Editor'sCommentsBelated Season's Greetings!

Wow, the German-American Society and it's affiliates had another wonderfulyear. Our organization continues to grow by attracting new members and addinadditional activites for our members as well as the community to enjoy.

Our Oktoberfest finally had three days of great weather and with the inclusion of"Das Bier Run", made for one of our more prosperous Oktoberfest in a long time

We hope many of you were able to come out and visit our Kristkindlmarkt. Whaa great event to wrap up our season of public offerings.

Thanks to all of our members and outside volunteers who worked hard at all of

our events this past year. Without your help and support we would not be able offer what we do to support German culture in the Peoria area.

Congratulations and thank you to all of you who have agreed to serve as officerfor 2013 in our organization. Your leadership will help us to make 2013 even

    better than 2012!

MusicandCultureCommitteeOne of the highlights of this past fall and early

winter was having Kayla Hohl from Bradley U. as ourIntern. Kayla finished her degree with a major inGerman Language and has now accepted a job inWashington D.C. While she was with us she studiedGermanic Folk Dances as well as participating withour dancers. She sang Christmas Carols with ourchoir and also served as a very capable andwelcoming Kristkindl, with our new Angel costumerepresenting the Christ Child. Another outstandingthing she did was to give German lessons at theLindenhof with the assistance of German teacher,Christine Strelecky. Frau Strelecky would like to

continue these lessons in the new year, so anyonewanting to get involved in learning German cancontact her or me.

Our Volktnzer group continues to remain vibrantconsisting of a mixture of experienced senior dancersas well as a number of young folk. The group is opento take in new dancers who want to learn. ContactDebbie Hedemann if interested. Some of theirhighlights this past year were dancing in Bloomingtonand also at the Highland J ubilee, at the Swissoriginated town of Highland, Illinois. Next year they

have already been invited to dance in Springfield aswell as at our many fests here in the Peoria area.

The Lindenhof Echoes are going through a time ofreorganization as we are down to having 4 alphornsin the group. We are hoping to get back to the pointof having at least 4 active players and up to 6 forspecial occasions. There is some discussion abouthaving a fundraiser to purchase another horn or two.

Our Gemishterchor, consisting of the DamenchorGermania and the Harmonie Concordia, had a veryactive December, singing at 8 different

retirement/nursing homes. The singers deliveredsolid 35 minute concerts of German and EnglishChristmas songs. We also sang at the Lindenhof at aregular Friday night dinner. Six ladies sang carols forour former pianist, Margaret Hanold, in her assistedliving home.

Starting J anuary 15 we will begin the hard work oflearning many new songs for the MilwaukeeSngerfest in J une as well as for our Spring Concerton April 13.

    3rdAnnualKristkindlmarkt@

TheLindenhofThe Kristkindlmarkt just gets better and better everyyear. This year we went with two weekends in order

to bring in more vendors without having to changelocations.

Even though there was some concerns, holding thisevent on two weekends worked out quite well. Wehad great vendors both weekends. Most of theindoor vendors the second weekend were new to thisevent so folks needed to attend both weekends tosee the outstanding crafts we had to offer.

Our first time vendors were extremely pleased withtheir sales and the quality of the event. Many of therepeat vendors said their sales were the same as or

even better than the year before! We were not wall towall as we were last year, but those who came werebuying! Especially, the under 35 crowd, which onevendor said they seldom see.

Before I forget I need to mention my mother, WilmaPulfer and Anna___ (who recently moved here fromPoland) for baking and making over 500 Christmascookies and candies one day at the Lindenhof! Howcan you have a Christmas Market without Lebkuchenand anise drops, as well as other Christmas delights? We sold the last of these late Sunday during the

    second weekend!

We hope you all enjoyed the entertainment this year. Each weekend was different. Thank you Al Hedemanfor arranging all of this! Also, a special thank you toZach Engleman who played the violin the secondweekend. Zach played with everyone all day. Nextyear, I think we will just label the entertainment on atleast one day as "Zach und Freunde".

I can't say about the Louie Maye and Roger Martonand their crews who put in a lot of hours preparing

and serving the food on both weekends. Al Smithand his bar crew also provided great support to thiswonderful event. Thanks to J ohn Katzke for makingsome whole strudels for the Media Committee to sellas well

A special thank you to Bob Barker and WayneTheobald who did an outstanding job of playingSanta. And of couse Kayla Hohl, who performedmagnificently as our Kristkindl. Kayla helped kick offor opening ceremony and worked three of our

weekend days as a greeter. I hope she will treasurethis experience for a long time as being our firstKristkindl Susan Eitner stepped in and served as thKristkindl as well for one Saturday and did a very nic

    job.

Also, thanks to those unsung heros who set up thehall both weekends and set it back up on Sundayevenings. Your efforts made life easier for our moresenior Harmonie members.

Thanks to all our wonderful vendors who help ingetting folks to come back year after year to thisunique event. We hope to see many of you nextyear!

One final thank you, to the Harmonie Singers forallowing me to serve one again as chairman of thiswonderful Holiday Event!
