Video of the month/ Wes Iseli’s Torn & Restored paper

This is an effect I have been doing since the mid nineties. I have never used this during a formal setting, it has always just been an effect I pull out to blow my friends away with. This is not even an effect I do very often, but when I do perform it, it always gets a great response. I hope you enjoy it… To see this video just search on youtube: Wes Iseli’s Torn & Restored Paper

David Ginn’s lectures takes him all over the world in England, Scotland, Holland, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Vienna, Austria, Sweden, Denmark, Ireland, Italy, Spain, France, Switzerland, Belgium, & South Africa. Ginn also creates three new shows yearly: an educational school show, a pre-school/kindergarten show, and a summer reading show for libraries. This year he is celebrating 35 years of fulltime performing, writing, lecturing and teaching others how to entertain children and family audiences. I have known of David Ginn since I was in high school I owned several of his VHS tapes teaching children’s magic. Last month I was asked to perform at the Fellowship of Chris-tians Magicians magic convention in Columbus, Ohio where I was on the bill with David. I never thought I would be asked to perform at a magic convention where I was on stage with David Ginn, let alone be the headliner. He was really cool towards me and we got to talk a bit back stage while we were waiting to go on. He told me stories from the past from when he did illusions and I felt like I had known him all my life. He was exactly the guy I grew up watching on magic tapes. It was an amazing experience.

The Magic Outlaws is a brand new TV show on the travel channel featuring Chris Korn, Ben Seid-man and David Minkin. The show follows them around as they travel city to city perform-ing at every stop. Besides filming in different cities I am not sure you will learn much about the different places, I think this show is all about magic. To see the commercial for this show search Magic Outlaws on Youtube.com.

As a member of the “FCM” AKA Fellowship of Christian Magicians, I have created

several gospel themed magic effects over the past few years. I am in talks with my

web guy and I will have a Magic with a message page on wesiseli.com very soon.

This page will house such effects as:

My Bible Kit, Love story, Overcoming 7 deadly sins, 3 rope trick, Fire wallet and

more.

We have wonderful testimonials from happy customers

who love this line. These effects are great for beginners,

Sunday school teachers, or working magicians. Our

goal with this line is to entertain and educate about the

Bible all at the same time.

Over the past few weeks things have been crazier than normal for us, let me explain:

I knew I had a magic convention coming up in Columbus, Ohio so I was working around the clock

making magic tricks to sell as well as coming up with a new lecture to do, all the while maintaining

normal office hours and performing shows. It was kind of like a vacation when we headed off to the

convention. Even though at a magic convention you don’t get much sleep, it’s nice to only think

about one thing at a time instead of checking off a list and juggling ten things in your mind. The

convention went great, we met a lot of great people. I even had 2 tables in the dealer room where I

sold magic, everyone loved my new effect ”Love Story”. I headlined the evening show and got to

perform on stage with David Ginn and Duane Laflin

who are two legends in magic. On the way home things

took a turn for the worse; my van died at 4:00 pm on a

Sunday evening in Clarksburg, West Virginia during a

snow storm. We had to get a tow truck to take the van

to a mechanic and drop us off at a hotel. The next

morning the mechanic said it would take a week to fix

the van, so I called my local mechanic in Charlottes-

ville and he said “get a rental car and get home, I will

send a tow truck to pick up your van and we can work

on it here, besides a huge snow storm is expected to hit

here anytime.” (We use Airport Auto they are the best)

Well we did just that, we got a rental car and went

home, our van got to Charlottesville about 2 hours af-

ter we did. The next day 14 inches of wet heavy snow

fell here in Virginia and we lost power for 3 days, the

temperature in our home was 45 degrees and we ended

up staying with friends in Culpeper. We felt like we

were homeless and had the worst luck all at the same

time. On the other hand we felt blessed to have friends

like Bryan & Amy Bowling to take us in and give us a

warm place to stay.

The folks who hired us had a photographer walking

around the convention, I am hoping I will get a few

photos before my next newsletter….

Our Illusion Show at William Monroe High School

Magic News / Penn Jillette is back on Apprentice

On Feb 8th Natalie & I put on our Magic & Illusion show at William Monroe High School as a fundraiser for Ruckers-ville Elementary School. This show was scary because it seemed as though zero advertising was done prior to the week of the show. So Natalie & I decided to go to the school and do a teaser show, a commercial for the big show that was coming that Friday night. Well that turned everything around, the show was delayed 15 minutes due to the fact that the line to get into the show was up the block. The other scary thing was the fact that school was canceled that day due to snow and ice but the show went on anyway. The show was awesome, we had a great time and the school was very happy with the amount of money they made. Below are a few pictures from that show:

This season of Celebrity Apprentice welcomes back Penn Jillette. As a fan of Penn & Teller, I enjoy watching him juggle meatballs to “show their quality”, eat fire to draw a crowd, use his carnival bark-ing skills to sell trinkets, etc… This season should be fun with “Celebrities” such as La Toya Jackson, Trace Adkins, Stephen Baldwin, Gary Busey, Marilu Henner, Lil Jon, Claudia Jordan, Omarosa, Lisa Rinna, Brande Roderick, Dennis Rod-man, Dee Snider, & Bret Michaels. As a marketing major I justify my interest in this show as educational, but as the seasons go on it has become more about cat fights and scandals than creating projects from scratch, brainstorming sessions, and working within budgets. I wish you the best of luck Penn!

Love Story Is now available Only $25.00 Wes Iseli's Magic with a message series A huge hit at this year’s FCM Ohio Convention. "It's a great effect, I wish I thought of that" Duane Laflin Effect: Several cards are shown to depict scenes from famous love stories from the past. John Smith & Poca-hontas, Lancelot & Guinevere, Mark Anthony & Cleo-patra, Romeo & Juliet, Etc... The cards are turned face down and placed under the pile after each is shown, then dealt out until one card remains. You then talk about that card “forbidden love Etc”. You then shuffle and deal the cards again ending on THE CARD with GOD having the world in his hands. Then Say: But there is one love story that has been going on since the beginning of time. This story is known the world over in every country on every continent. There have been more books & movies written about this love story than any other. It is a different kind of love a love we can’t even comprehend it is (turn over the card) GOD’S LOVE. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” This packet trick can't be any easier and will quickly become one of your favor-ites.

Effect: The performer makes cards rise out of the pack by building up friction by rub-bing his fingers vigorously on his pants, then by placing his pointer on top of the pack one card rises out of the pack. Secret: With his fingers curled up it appears that only his pointer is uncurled but both his pointer and pinky fingers are uncurled and the pinky is really making the card rise. Tip: Practice this a bunch before showing anyone, if done poorly it won’t fool anyone.
