API 580: Supplemental Inspection Certification Program Advanced Knowledge of Risk-Based Inspection
(API Exam Preparation Training)
Course Introduction: API 580 Supplemental Inspection Certification program is designed to train inspectors on Risk-Based Inspection (RBI). The program is based on API RP 580, 2nd Edition, published
November 2009, which is applicable to all inspectors in the petroleum/petrochemical industry.
Course DescriptionThe objective of this program is to provide inspectors with advanced (above the
basic core API 510, 570 & 653 certifications) knowledge and skills in Risk-Based
Inspection based on the infor mation contained in API RP 580. An API Supplemental
Inspection Certification is defined as “Documentation that indicates that minimum
requirements have been met for additional qualification in the designated area of
expertise”. This would include an API issued letter, certificate, and a wallet card.
This certificate adds significant value to one’s professional credentials. It shows
employers and clients a high level of proficiency and understanding in the field. The
supplemental inspection certification program is open to anyone who is currently
certified to API 510, 570 or 653. Included with the course is a pre-study guide and
student classroom workbook. The student receives instruction on how to take the
test and gains insight into the applications of RBI in “real world” situations. Daily
tests are designed to gauge students’ proficiency and understanding of the material.
Note: This does not register you for the API exam. If you have not already registrered for the
API exam, you need to download an application from the API website (www.api.org/icp).
