Cherry is a closed-grain hardwood with uniform texture, known for its warmth and distinctive characteristics such as curly fi gures and pin knots. Th e natural color of cherry ranges from pale yellow sapwood to deep reddish brown heartwood. From the time it is cut and exposed, cherry begins to darken in color. Th is grad-ual change gives the wood its reputation of warmth and charm. Cherry is particularly attractive when stained a deep, rich color.

oak

Oak is an open-grained hardwood with varying patterns ranging from straight grain to wide arcs. When stained, there is a noticeable diff er-ence in the color shades between the open and closed grain areas of the wood. Wood cut from the heartwood will range from pink to reddish brown. Because of the distinct character of the grain, oak is one of the most popular wood spe-cies used for cabinetry.

Maple is an extremely hard wood with a fi ne, even texture. Th e natural color of maple is a light to cream-colored sapwood. Although it has uniform and straight grain, it may exhibit special markings such as wavy, curly, bird’s eye or burl graining. Maple may also reveal min-eral streaks and worm tracking across the grain when it is stained. Th ese characteristics are natural and are not considered defects.

Hickory is a heavy hardwood and when fi nished has a warm, appealing appearance. Distinctive color streaks of red heartwood and white sapwood combine with knots and other characteristics to create a dramatic appearance. While some parts are clear, it is the variations in hickory that are an in-herent part of its charm and are considered a desirable part of the total look.

white thermofoil

Th ermofoil is a process whereby a thick vinyl fi lm is bonded perma-nently to a warp-resistant engineered wood core. Because the color is throughout the fi lm, the surface is durable, easy to clean and especially resistant to chipping and cracking.

choose your material

it’s a fact of nature:no two pieces of wood are exactly alike — even from the same tree. these variations contribute to the beauty and distinction of natural woods. yet, it is important to understand what to expect.

A We start with hand-selected, premium-grade hardwood lumber. Individual

components are triple sanded with progressively fi ner grit. Th is allows us to

reach those diffi cult to reach areas before doors are assembled.

B After assembly, an inspection is conducted for conformance to demanding

specs, then a pre-stain is applied to certain “sensitive” colors in order to assure

the desired fi nish.

C A penetrating layer of stain is applied using a spray/brush combination. With

an artisan’s touch, stains on cherry and glaze fi nishes are hand rubbed into

the wood allowing the grain pattern to come to life.

D Two coats of a high-solids sealer are applied during the fi nishing process to

tighten and fi ll the grain and provide a layer of “build” to the fi nish that adds a

deep, rich luster. After each coat the cabinets are lightly sanded.

E Finally, our exclusive formula of Rel-Plaz II® topcoat is applied and baked on

to protect all layers. After fi nal inspection and testing for chemical resistance,

water penetration, mar and abrasion, this process is complete.

reduced depth cabinet option

Both wall and base cabinets are available with reduced depths in one-inch increments — all the way down to an incredible four inches deep!

increased depth cabinet option

Deeper cabinets often come in handy for designers. Our Increased Depth Option for wall cabinets allows you to select cabinets deeper than the standard 12” depth on cabinets up to 36” wide. Th e Increased Depth Option is available in one-inch increments from 13” to 24” deep on the following cabinets only: Wall Cabinets, Peninsula Wall, Blind Wall, Blind Wall Peninsula, Straight Appliance Garage, and Bookshelves.

inverted frame cabinet option

Th e Inverted Frame Option, available for most standard base cabinets, allows the drawer to go below. Th is option is also available for Base Pot & Pan Organizer and Factory Installed Wastebasket(s) Cabinets. Can be combined with Plywood Veneered Side Option and Reduced Depth Option for most standard base cabinets.

matching interior cabinet option

Ideal for built-in cabinets or cabinets with glass doors, the matching interior upgrade provides an interior color that matches the exterior fi nish for a custom look.

void door cabinet option

Th e Void Door Option means cabinets will ship without doors, battens or hinges. Since stiles are pre-drilled for hinges, molding is used to cover the holes and provide a fi nished look. Choose from three moldings to be cut and fi eld installed.

CushionClose® glide option

Th e CushionClose® no-slam, air damping drawer closure system is available on Portfolio Select® Series only.

furniture ends option

Th e fi nished look of the Furniture Ends Option for cabinet sides is available only on Portfolio Select® and most Portfolio® cabinets. Th e ¾” plywood veneer sides can be chosen for individual cabinets or the whole room.

all plywood construction (apc) option

Th e APC option is available for all Portfolio Select and Portfolio* wood door styles and features ½" plywood sides, fl oors and cabinet tops. Th e captured back, inset toe kick, corner blocks and shelves are also constructed with plywood. Th e furniture grade veneered side panels are fi nished to match your chosen cabinet color with our multi-step BeautyGuard® fi nishing process. *Dovetail Full-Access Drawer option required with APC option on Portfolio wood door styles.

Th is option adds extra strength. Th ese ½” thick plywood panels are furniture-grade veneer, fi nished to match your chosen cabinet color. Th e interior is protected with our Tuff Tech® fi nish of bonded acrylic for added durability.

deep dovetail sliding shelves

Forget hunting for things in the back of the cabinet. Th ese sturdy trays slide everything into view. Tray kits fi t both standard base and utility cabinets.
