2012 - 13 Residence Director Staff

About Marshall University... Marshall University has a student population of almost 14,000 students (10,000+ undergradu-

ates) with an average class size of 23 students. The Fall 2011 admitted freshman class had an average ACT of 22.1 and an average GPA of 3.3. The university has a diverse student body from 46 states and 47 foreign countries, with a total

minority enrollment of 8.6 percent. Marshall University offers 52 Baccalaureate. 45 Graduate, 2 Ed.S., 5 Doctoral Degree, and one

First Professional degree programs. Marshall is home to 3 freshman residence halls and 7 upper class halls, with a total on campus

capacity of 2,537. Marshall has recently partnered with INTO to increase international enrollment at the university.

What type of special communities does the Department of Housing & Residence Life offer?

Our residence halls feature a variety of housing options for students including traditional and suite style living, with both single and double occupancy rooms. Specialty housing includes Living-Learning Communities (LLCs) and Fresh-men Interest Groups (FIGs).

Are opportunities available for staff to get involved across campus?

Housing and Residence Life encourages their staff members to get involved in other areas around campus. While these experiences can be tailored to your personal interests, it is common for staff members to be involved in the University Week of Welcome, Open Houses, Orienta-tion, and specialized Student Affairs committees.

What professional development opportunities are available at Marshall University?

In addition to traditional funding to attend local and nation-al conferences, staff members are provided with opportuni-ties to attend continued education courses, webinars, and university-wide training efforts. Each staff member works with their supervisor to create a tailored plan to meet their professional development goals.

RESIDENCE DIRECTOR Position Description Marshall University’s Department of Housing and Residence Life seeks outgoing, energetic, and skilled applicants for a full-time, live-in professional responsible for one of four residential living communities at Marshall University. Residence Directors are responsible for the daily administration of their community and direct supervision of a team of 14-16 Resident Advisors.

Responsibilities1. Supervision and staff development Jointly oversee one of four residential living

communities composed of 300-500 students Supervise 14-16 student Resident Advisors, one

Assistant Residence Director and 1 - 4 full-time Desk Coordinators

Participate in all staff training and selectionprocesses

Meet weekly with staff members and complete semester performance evaluations

2. Student and Community Development Implement and manage programming and learning

outcomes for the community Facilitate academic initiatives in the community Work with student 1-1 on development issues Assist in roommate mediation and customer service 3. Administrative Tasks Maintain daily office hours and a high degree of

availability to students Conduct judicial hearings with students Maintain student records Participate in on-call duty rotation Conduct all purchasing for hall activities 4. RESIDENCE DIRECTOR Position Description Marshall University’s Department of Housing and Residence Life seeks outgoing, energetic, and skilled applicants for a full-time, live-in professional responsible for one of four residential living communities at Marshall University. Residence Directors are responsible for the daily administration of their community and direct supervision of a team of 14-16 Resident Advisors.

Responsibilities1. Supervision and staff development Jointly oversee one of four residential living

communities composed of 300-500 students Supervise 14-16 student Resident Advisors, one

Assistant Residence Director and 1 - 4 full-time Desk Coordinators

Participate in all staff training and selectionprocesses

Meet weekly with staff members and complete semester performance evaluations

2. Student and Community Development Implement and manage programming and learning

outcomes for the community Facilitate academic initiatives in the community Work with student 1-1 on development issues Assist in roommate mediation and customer service 3. Administrative Tasks Maintain daily office hours and a high degree of

availability to students Conduct judicial hearings with students Maintain student records Participate in on-call duty rotation Conduct all purchasing for hall activities 4. Are opportunities available for staff to get involved across campus?

Housing and Residence Life encourages their staff members to get involved in other areas around campus. While these experiences can be tailored to your personal interests, it is common for staff members to be involved in the University Week of Welcome, Open Houses, Orienta-tion, and specialized Student Affairs committees.

What professional development opportunities are available at Marshall University?

In addition to traditional funding to attend local and nation-al conferences, staff members are provided with opportuni-ties to attend continued education courses, webinars, and university-wide training efforts.
