(printing in May 2013)summarizes the rules
and laws that regulate big game hunting in
Utah. Although these books are convenientquick-reerence documents or Utah big game

governor, board members are not Division
employees.
The Divisions director serves as the boards
executive secretary but does not have a vote on
wildlie policies.Beore board members make changes to
wildlie rules, they listen to recommendations
rom Division biologists. They also receive input
rom the public and various interest groups via
the regional advisory council (RAC) process.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUNG HUNTERSIn 2013, there will be at least one big change to youth hunting opportunities.
More archery permitsor youth
I youre a youth who enjoys bowhunting, youwill likely be able to hunt during the 2013 archery

(the opening day o the general-season archery
deer hunt).
An additional 20 percent o each units total
number o archery permits will be available to
youth as general-season archery deer permits.
For example, i the Wildlie Board approves 500
general-season archery permits or a particular
unit, another 100 archery permits will be avail-
able to youth or over-the-counter purchase.
This new opportunity is in addition to the 20
percent o all buck deer permits that are already
allocated to youth in the drawing.
Starting at 8 a.m. on July 11, these permits
will be available at wildlie.utah.govand rom
license agents and Division oces.

the archery season ends, you may hunt the same
unit during the general muzzleloader and general
any legal weapon deer seasons, using the ap-

When those seasons endi you still

During the general season, you may hunt in
the unit printed on your permit.

Youth elk permitsUp to two youthsmay apply together or

Utahs Cooperative Wildlie Management Unit
(CWMU) program provides landowners with an
economic incentive to keep their private range
and orest lands as productive wildlie habitat.
The landowners receive vouchers or hunting
permits, which they can sell or prot, as long as
they also allow a percentage o public hunters on
their lands.CWMUs comprise more than two million
acres o land in Utah. They will provide more than
3,000 hunting permits or bucks and bulls in
2013. About 14 percent o those permits are avail-
able to the general public through the states big
game drawing.
Obtaining a CWMU permitI youre a Utah resident, there are two ways to
obtain a CWMU permit: you can apply or one in
the states big game drawing, or you can obtain a
permit voucher rom the landowner or operator o
the CWMU you want to hunt.
I youre not a resident o Utah, you cannot ap-
ply or a CWMU permit in the public drawing. You
can, however, obtain a permit voucher directly
rom the CWMU landowner or operator.
For more inormation on redeeming a
voucher and using a CWMU permit, please visit
wildlie.utah.gov/cwmu and click the Inorma-
tion tab.
I you draw a permit to hunt on a CWMU,
you must contact the CWMU operator to obtainessential inormation about when and where
youll be hunting. The operator will also provide
the CWMU rules.
For more inormation on CWMU season dates,
see page 7. For inormation on individual
CWMU properties, visitwildlie.utah.gov/cwmu.
Mandatory harvestreporting
I you obtain a CWMU permit, you must
report inormation about your hunt within
30 days ater it ends. See page 6 to learn
more about this important requirement or visit
wildlie.utah.gov/harvestreportingto complete
your harvest report online.
COOPERATIVE WILDLIFE MANAGEMENTUNITSUtah Admin. Rule R657-37
allows youth to hunt buck deer in the same unit
with siblings, riends and cousins.
When you apply in a youth-only group or the
general-season deer hunt, all hunters must meet
the age requirement or the application will not be
processed with the other youth applications. For more inormation about the hunt drawing,
please visit wildlie.utah.gov/huntingpermits.
