Purpose and outcome

• Identify your purpose for delivering the

speech and desired outcome. What state do

you want to elicit in your audience?

• Who is your audience and what do they

want?

• Maximum impact when your purpose

matches what the audience wants.

Preparation before the speech

• Breathing exercises, stretching.

• Mentally go through the presentation and

visualize it unfold the way you want it.

• Mental preparation: get in your “zone”, elicit

the desired state in yourself first (motivation,

excitement, etc.)

Leverage non-verbal communication

• Why is it important for you to be in the state

you want to elicit in your audience?

You communicate your state to others

• Your state influences:

Your breathing speed, depth and rhythm

Leverage non-verbal communication

• It influences:

Your volume, tone of voice

Your energy level

Your movements and gestures

Your facial expressions

Your body posture

Before the speech

• Get someone to introduce you.

Why?

• As you walk in, repeat in your head a

sentence that makes you feel powerful,

unstoppable.

• Scan your audience so everyone feels

included.

Tips for building presence on stage

• Check posture, breathing, stance.

If you did a good job at eliciting the state in you, your body language will reflect that state.

• Be open and flexible.

• Connect to your center and experience your strength.

Involve your audience

• Connect with your audience: eye contact,

divide room into sections.

• Get your audience to agree to what you say.

• Get your audience to participate: finish

sentences, answer questions…

Use of language for Motivation

• The different levels of language: chunking

up and down.

Use the right level of communication for

your intended purpose (covered in details

in the NLP training)

• Use of nominalizations.

• Speak in terms of possibilities.

Story-telling & metaphors

• Why is it so effective?

• People remember stories more than

theories.

• Good tool for teaching, to get through

resistance, talks to the unconscious mind.
