TIDEWATER KNITTING GUILD OF VIRGINIA January 2014 A message from our president I think one of my 2013 knitting resolutions was to downsize my stash, which I thought I was doing until I had to empty my yarn room a couple of weeks ago for new carpeting. I lost count after the 15th trip to the garage with “stu” from that room. Thank goodness I had Linda’s help; otherwise I probably would have started chucking stuout the window. One thing is for certain: I won’t be moving it all back up to the room. Our January yarn yard sale, and of course our swap table at our retreat for leftover, could not come at better times. Speaking of retreats, please get your registration in soon. Our Feb. 3 meeting is the deadline for registration. The committee is working on the details and gathering wonderful treats for your registration bags. The weekend promises to be a fun, relaxing event with lots of knitting, food and friends. It doesn’t get any better than that. The board will be meeting in January to make plans for the year. So, if you have any ideas for programs or events, please bring them up at the January meeting. I also am looking for suggestions for a charity to spotlight for our 2014 holiday party. I can’t tell you how impressed I was to see all the donations made to St. Mary’s Home at our recent holiday party. When a call for help is made, this Guild definitely steps forward. Thank you all for your contributions not only with knitted items, but other items on St. Mary’s wish list. And thank you Beverly for bringing that strawberry cake. YUM! Besides the yarn yard sale at the January meeting, we will reveal your 2013 resolutions submitted last January and see if you remembered what you wrote and if you accomplished your goals. Be prepared to jot down your knitting resolutions and goals for 2014. See you in the New Year. Charity knitting: Items for St. Mary's By Chris Goudeau A big THANK-YOU to everyone who came and donated to our holiday party at St. Mary’s Home. It was a big success! !! I will be totaling up all of your items that were donated during the 2013 year. We will be announcing our first-, second- and third-place charity knitting/crochet winners. If you have any items that you donated during the month of December and did not get a chance to put them on the charity log, please let me know.! Please bring your items to be donated locally to the next meeting and we’ll see that they are distributed. If you have items that you have given to an out-of-town charity, you should notate that on the charity log. Remember to sign the charity knitting log each month when you attend our meetings or email me at [email protected]. Thank you. !

Thank you to the Tidewater Knitting Guild !From: Deane SobolSent: Thursday, December 12, 2013 9:14 PMTo: Jackie ScottSubject: Scarves Donated by the Knitting Guild! ! Jackie, please convey my heartfelt thanks to the Knitting Guild for all of the wonderful scarves that they knitted for the homeless. Our goal was 130 scarves and we received 140. It is so gratifying when so many different people help to see a project come to fruition. Robin and I took the scarves to the sandwich line today and began giving them out. With the variety of styles and colors that we had, we were able to give them scarves in their favorite colors. The scarves will continue to be given out over the ensuing weeks. Again, many thanks for the donation; it was greatly appreciated by the recipients.!!(Eds. note: The scarves are being distributed by St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in West Ghent in Norfolk.)
