“FOR THE RESIDENTS, BY THE RESIDENTS”
Happy Valentines Day February 2014
A Valentine Forever
A Valentine is nothing like a chocolate or a rose. For in a week
these shall be gone, but Valentines remain.
If love were always sweet to tongue or fragrant to the nose,
Each day would be like Valentine’s and we would go insane.
A Valentine just hangs around, waiting to be kissed,
Long after special days have passed
And everyday’s are here.
So one is wise to choose one well,
And chocolate’s to resist.
For in the midst of mania,
It’s nice to have one near.
A VERY SPECIAL, HAPPY VALENTINES’S TO ALL!
January 27th, Association Meeting
Election of 2014 Board
Normally the results of the Annual meeting elections is on this page but since it was held at the end of January the results will be in the next issue. So sorry for this but

Ambulance Program Wine & Cheese Party
January 12th
A brief Election Meeting transpired, followed by our successful tasting party. Fifty-three
tickets were sold, seven different types of wine, with four types of cheese were enjoyed, plus
assorted crackers and garnishes. Glad to say our treasury increased by $153.00. On behalf of
our Board of Directors, Thank You. Jim & Carolyn McAdams
from the Association President
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Well here we are in the New Year and already talking February events.
We have Jimmy Smith coming back by popular demand, there is also a
dance scheduled this month. Please read your newsletter for all the
scheduled events and help us out by attending and showing your
support.
By now you all know the lights have been installed at 98 and 301 and so
sad to hear about all the accidents happening and it seems they have
been caused because some of the people are running the red lights. I
have been sending numerous emails to D.O.T. and myself, sat one day
to observe and seen a couple of cars running the red lights. Please be
careful……..Read the article that was in the local news here in this issue.
Please also read about our “Fun Day” event scheduled for March 16th.
We need a great number of volunteers to help out with this first time
ever in Southfork. So please meet with us on Saturday, Feb 8, at 1pm
to help, suggest and organize and give suggestions to make this a fun
day for all.
To all the newer residents who have moved in over past year and
recently, welcome to our home and please let me know if there is
anything you would like to see come to Southfork in the line of
entertainment or activities.
Thanks all, Dot Cady
Fun day, Sunday, March 16th
2:00pm
Well, we are trying something new again and we hope we get the interest of the
community. We will have a day of scheduled events, (all outdoors) starting at 2pm and
lasting until the evening hours ending at the Pavilion with a cook out, cash prizes and much
more.
To help with the cash prizes we will be selling tickets @ $5.00 a person and this starts with
giving each person an automatic 25 points just for buying the tickets. All events held on this
day will be point related whether you become an observer or a participant. At the end of the
day at the cookout, cash prizes will be awarded to the people having the most points
accumulated during the day of events. So when you buy your ticket your name must be
given and that is the start of the accumulation of points
Some of the events are, (this could be changed with more events added or removed):
Golf Cart Obstacle tournament (this will be in the RV section), Shuffleboard Turkey Shoot
(few items on the court and hitting the puck without knocking down the items), Beach ball
event (tossing the ball down the street for the furthest thrown), Broom Ball (like Golf except
using a broom with a whiffle ball), Scavenger hunt, Poke along Poker, Toss the ball in the
basket (childs football tossed into a bushel basket), Toilet paper Mummy (a 2 team event
with one person wrapping the other as quickly as possible using an entire roll of toilet paper).
These are just a few suggestions and if anyone has any other ideas we welcome the
suggestions or ideas. At the end of the day, all people with tickets meet at the pavilion with
a chance of winning a cash prize and more, note, more then one cash prize will be given out.
We are asking for as many people as can be to volunteer and help with some of the events. It
will take many people to get this going and you can help at more then one event.
Please call Phyllis @ 567-6105 for questions, help offered, ,suggestions or ideas. 1st meeting
on Saturday, Feb 8th at 1pm.

Women’s Club
On Jan.15, 47 ladies met in the clubhouse for their monthly meeting. We missed Dot Cady our secretary who was absent
because of illness. So Phyllis took her place, read the minutes
and her Treasury report - both were approved without changes.
We had reports from all the other committees. Mary Bolin head of
the Charity Committee thanked everyone for their generosity and
read letters of appreciation from the people that we helped.
We had 13 representatives from the Lighthouse Ministries who
told us their stories. It was very interesting to hear how these
men turned their life around and now are helping others. Our
club donated $100.00 to them and all the food brought in by the
women were donated to them also.
Dues were collected for 2014 as they are due in January each
year.
Feb 5th we will have our fashion show and your entrance fee is
$8.00. With this ticket purchased you will have a chance to win
one free month of Southfork rent.
It was election time and the only position that was changed was
the secretary. Gracefully, Peggy Elkins accepted to replace Dot
Cady. Thank you Dot for a job well done. My board and I
appreciated all the help that you gave us.
Thanks to Tanya Hahn who gave us 4 bags of Avon Products to be
raffled.
Thanks also to Shirley Tiratto, Joanne Bowman and Dee Dee
Southerland who did the Social Part of the meeting by
celebrating the birthdays of December and January.
See you at the fashion show next month and don’t forget to buy
your ticket in order to attend.

Southfork Community Golf Cart Parade
ON Saturday, Dec 21st, the above cart was one of 42 golf carts in the Christmas Golf Cart
parade that went through the streets of Southfork, Blue Jay and Harmony Heights. What a
great turnout and to top this off there were 18 homes visited by our 2 Santa Claus’s. The
parade was split up into 2 sections and ½ went in one direction and the other half in the
other direction and then met and all traveled to Blue Jay and Harmony Heights to the delight
of many residents.
This event was held in conjunction with the Angel Tree. There were 140 angels on the tree
and every angel was taken and gifts purchased for our homebound residents here in
Southfork. 115 gifts went to the Heritage Park Nursing Home and they had a Santa Claus
there to hand deliver a gift to each and every resident in the home. All of this could not have
been done without the most caring people like this community has and the big heart you
have all shown.
After the parade all met at the hall where there was Hot Chocolate, coffee, Soda and Cookies
and the interaction of all who were in attendance.
What a great place to call our home where all reach out to touch someone .
Southfork, you are number 1!!
Santa #1 (Mike Miller)
Santa #2 (John Quain)
Getting ready for the parade
Scheduling of the Clubhouse
To schedule a function in the Clubhouse, you must reserve the hall with the
Association President first. In most case’s the scheduled Association events
(such as bingo etc.) takes priority over private party requests. Give at least 30
days to 2 months advance notice for any scheduling and don’t assume the date
is available.
The same thing goes for the Pavillion and the Pool area.
Call the President, Dot Cady for a form that must be filled out for all
reservations. This is a must, for just in cases, of damage etc. and the host/ party
holding the event will be held responsible and it must be noted if alcohol
beverages will be used.
If any questions on this procedure, please contact Dot.
PAPER RECYCLING
By the time this newsletter reaches everyone we will have a new paper recycling company
picking up all (newspapers/magazines only) back in the RV section.
It was to be installed the week of January 6th and this is just a notice to let everyone know.
The recycling of the newspapers done this way helps the Association with putting on the
many events which are free to all members.
Thanks everyone for your understanding during the couple of months of no paper pick up by
the former company.

Dade City News New Signal Is Installed At U.S. 98 And U.S. 301 D.O.T. Determined Signal Was
Warranted At Intersection
Story and photo by Joe Potter
For more years than many of us can remember, a yellow flashing light has marked the intersection of
U.S. Highway 301 and U.S. Highway 98 south of Dade City.
Traffic signs alongside the north- and southbound lanes of U.S. 301 instructed motorists to lower their
speed from 55 mph to 50 mph to 45 mph the closer they were to the intersection. Several property
damage and personal injury accidents and a fair number of fatal accidents have occurred at the
intersection over the past several years.
Now, motorists will have to pay more attention when approaching the intersection since a traffic
signal was installed there on Jan. 6 by the Florida Department of Transportation.
More than 1,000 homes sit within a mile of the intersection of U.S. Highway 98 and U.S. Highway 301
just south of Dade City.
The Southfork Homeowners Association lobbied the DOT for eight years to install a traffic signal at
this intersection. Many letters were written to politicians who represent the area requesting help from
them. The Association’s efforts finally paid off in March 2013 when the DOT notified them that recent
studies confirmed a signal was warranted. The DOT said the signal would be installed “as quickly as
possible - before the end of the year, if not sooner.”
The DOT only missed its self-imposed deadline for installation of the new traffic signal by about a
week.
DOT inspectors determined between 55 and 81 vehicles per hour made left turns at the intersection.
The department also evaluated crash data from January 2009 through December 2012 and concluded
that 2.5 crashes per year would be “susceptible to correction by a traffic signal – and - due to the high
speed on U.S. 301 at this intersection - crashes tend to be severe.”
Can Recycling in RV section
We need your help……………..Please, please, do not place anything except cans in the
receptacle for the can recycling back in the RV section.
NO, bags, glass wine bottles, plastic of any kind.
There has been trash of every kind found in this receptacle and only “CANS” are to be placed
in there. We have a person who takes these cans to a recycling center and the items must
be sorted out first because of all other items that do not belong in there. All other plastic,
glass etc should be placed in a blue bag for recycling, curb pick up on the 1st and 3rd
Wednesday of each month. Please help and abide by this request!!!!
Phone Directory
Just a reminder, because of running short each year……………….no home
deliveries will be made of the phone directories. I will bring them to the office
and if anyone wants a new one, just ask John or Sandi. Don’t quote me on this
but I think they will be delivered around the end of January………..So when you
go to pay your rent, stop and ask if they have been brought in yet.
Also, if any errors or corrections need to be made, I can make them but they will
not show until the next January 2015 when the next book comes out.
Remember, each year the deadline for additions/corrections must be made by
December 1st.
Thanks, Phyllis Grossi
6TH ANNUAL HAND AND FOOT TOURNAMENT
The annual Hand and Foot Tournament was held on Saturday,
1/18/2014 at the clubhouse and was again a great success. There
were thirty two (32) entrants and the tournament started at 11am.
Everyone brought some type of finger food and we had 3 full tables set up and what a feast of
goodies including sandwiches, various entrees and desserts plus and coffee. In between and
during the games, everyone took advantage and munched on all the goodies. It looked like a
gourmet spread with so much food and it developed a great party atmosphere and there was
enough food to feed the entire community.
There was a lot of quiet and anxiety at first and when everyone was seated and relaxed, you
could then hear the giggles, chatter and laughter start and then the fun began. It s all in the
cards and well………..we seen what happened and who the winning teams were and there
were a few penalty points on some of the score sheets.
I want to thank Irene Schreier & Marielle Quain for taking care of checking in all the entrants
as they came in and passed out the rules with seat position’s to each person. They also did
all the verifying of the sheets and totaling them to make sure all was correct and to see who
all the winners were going to be. I also want to thank my husband, Pat Grossi who kept the
coffee going and helping with the food tables and helped where needed.
Here are the winners with a total of 10 people and a total of $160.00 given out:
$30 each to Gladys Cline & Frieda Ballerstein. 25,730 points
$20 each to Carol Whitbeck & Rick Unger 25,120 points
$15 each to Jo Bellows & Carol Wild 25,090 points
$10 each to Nona Gardner & Carol Albers, 24,220 points
$5 each to Donna Elder & Carol Quandt 22,595 points
So all in all, a big thanks to everyone who entered the tournament, brought food or helped in
anyway. It was a huge success and everyone is looking forward to next year already. A
successful event is only made when you have great participation!
Phyllis Grossi
Thanks To All the Volunteers
It would be next to impossible to conduct the many social activities
and entertainment, newsletter, breakfasts, bingo, Monday Coffee
Hour and the list goes on and on without the help of so many
volunteers. The Southfork Association would not be where it is today
with out the free time and help that is given. This includes many
hours because it is continuous and never ending and especially for
some of the same people who do the same things year after year.
We have the servers at the events, the can recycling, the 50/50
salespeople, and so many others who do so much along with the
taking care of the signs and selling of event tickets and the list is never
ending!
The next time you attend an affair, be sure to extend your thanks for
all of their hard work and effort. There is always room for more
volunteers to join in and help out.
Remember, the Association is a social group and our job is to
schedule as many events as possible and to keep it an active “55””
plus community as advertised. So try and remember this if
something is not going the way you would like it because you will
then be asked to help at the next function and that means another
volunteer was recruited . Thanks to all!!!!!
