Community impact occurs when people get engaged around strategies that work. None of us can solve problems or issues alone. Only by rallying together, as a community of philanthropic leaders, can we achieve meaningful results.

That’s the power of being a Leadership donor at United Way.

Our charge at United Way is to give you opportunities to pair your passions with strategies that effectively tackle our region’s biggest challenges – such as increasing graduation, reducing homelessness, and empowering healthy lives.

We know there is more that we can do, and which this community needs us to do.

Thank you for leading the way, and for helping us create change – together.

Sean Garrett Executive Director

With your help, United Way and other community partners are INCREASING GRADUATION for our children and youth, as well as illuminating other paths that lead to a better future.

Thanks to donors like you, we are REDUCING HOMELESSNESS, and opening other doors that create family and community stability.

By working together, our community is EMPOWERING HEALTHY LIVES, enabling a productive, vibrant community.

Why Your Leadership Matters

Leaders In Giving donors exhibit extraordinary foresight and dedication to improve the quality of life for all our neighbors. Our Leadership levels enable donors to invest as their resources allow, with benefits that increase with the level of generosity.

These donors contribute at least $10,000 annually to United Way of Central Carolinas and our 80 partner agencies.

Leaders In Giving Levels

Directors Circle - $15,000-$24,999Members of this inner circle of the Alexis de Tocqueville Society – those willing to step up to a $15,000 investment – receive all the benefits of Society membership, plus the opportunity to meet one-on-one with United Way Executive Director Sean Garrett to discuss your philanthropic goals.

Major Gifts Society - $25,000 and Up This highest level of philanthropic leadership stands apart – those most committed to investing for impact in our community, through a gift of $25,000 or more. These select donors are recognized by name on a plaque in the United Way lobby. This honor is conferred in addition to all benefits extended to Directors Circle donors.

Alexis de Tocqueville Society - $10,000-$14,999Named for 19th century French intellectual Alexis de Tocqueville, whose Democracy in America lauded our spirit of philanthropy, this Society honors United Way’s most generous community-minded investors. Last year’s local Society included 211 donors who invested at least $10,000 through United Way.

It takes an entire community to make a difference. We need YOU to help raise the graduation rate, reduce homelessness, and help our neighbors most in need in our five-county region.

CHANGE WON’T HAPPEN WITHOUT YOU

In the 19th century, French intellectual Alexis de Tocqueville singled out “associations” as a distinguishing characteristic of American life. Instead of waiting for government to fix social ills (as was standard in Europe), these groups – the predecessor to modern nonprofits – carved out their own niche as agents of change.

“The United Way enriches our community with educational opportunities for everyone – from children to adults. I’m proud to work for a company with a long-standing relationship with the United Way, from philanthropic support through the Bank of America Charitable Foundation, to the time and resources our employees dedicate to support United Way’s mission.”
