BEFORE MASS (at church) • Arrive at least 15 minutes before Mass is scheduled to begin and SIGN IN.
• If an assigned server arrives 10 minutes or less before Mass is to start, and another
non-assigned server has helped prepare for the Mass, the non-assigned server will
serve for Mass. However, he/she has the option to give up the right and may allow
the late-arriving scheduled server to serve.
• Vest in white alb and rope cincture. The alb should be long enough to touch the top of your shoes. The color of rope cincture can be found on the liturgical calendar in the sacristy.
• Look over the checklist for the number of cups, plates and purificators to be used. Place the items on the tray and take them out to the preparation area.
• Take the small water cruet, water pitcher, finger bowl, towel and chalice to the preparation area.
• Check that the Roman Misal (the book the priest uses), and the priest’s binder are on the small table next to the priest’s chair.
• Check the candles and replace them if necessary.
• Know where various items are located such as the Tabernacle, cabinet keys, batteries, incense and extra candles, in case the priest, deacon, or other ministers need something during the Mass.
CANDLES OR BANNERS?
Most of the time you will walk in carrying the candles. However, there will be times when the candles
will be placed on the Table of the Word and you will walk in carrying banners (usually the seasons of
Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Easter). You should always carry the candles at the end of the Mass.

SUBSTITUTES If you will not be able to go to your scheduled Mass, request a
substitute online (via the Ministry Scheduler) or call another
minister to substitute. If you are unable to locate a substitute,
contact your Ministry Coordinator.

registro.

lector (or deacon) carrying the Book of the Gospels.
• The procession typically goes around the ambulatory, down aisle #2, and all

and ambo.
• All ministers stand at attention; The presider is the only one to bow.
AFTER THE PRIEST BOWS TO THE ALTAR • Servers and the lector (or deacon) with the Book of the Gospels move to the ambo
