Jeff Brown, Superintendent Granville Exempted Village School District

Granville’s class of 2014 was the largest graduating class in the

history of the district. The world is a much different place than it was when they first stepped into their kindergarten classes in 2001. This class of graduates is leaving Granville more prepared than ever to succeed beyond the walls of the classroom. Teachers, administrators, parents and community members have all played a part in educating these students. With the passage of the fall levy, the dis-trict is able to continue to employee high-quality teachers who challenge students to achieve. The result of their efforts will be realized when our grad-uates go on to become future leaders, doctors, engineers, mathematicians, architects, fashion designers, engine mechanics, cosmetologists, artists, dancers, educators and more. The vari-ety of chosen professions speaks to the importance of an education focused on the whole child. The community’s support, demon-strated by the passage of the perma-nent improvement levy this year, is a testament to the importance of provid-ing infrastructure and investment for future generations of students. The funds will enable the district to keep curriculum current by providing the

financial means to purchase up-to- date textbooks and new technologies which will give students the tools and content necessary to compete in today’s society. At a recent Chamber event, Dan Evers from GROW Licking County discussed the need for economic development. GACC’s Farmers Market Sign MissingOne of the Farmers Market Signs has been reported stolen. The missing sign had been set up on the Northeast cor-ner of Broadway and Main Street, near where the Farmers Market is held. The GACC is hoping this is a prank and that the sign will be returned to the same location in good condition. Should this happen, no questions will be asked, and the Chamber, Market Master, and visitors to the Farmers Market will be very appreciative.Goumas Confections Mentioned in National e-MagazineThe April/May 2014 edition of The Gourmet Retailer contains an article on trends in chocolate and healthy indulgences. The Works® Receives Grant from Martha Holden Jennings Founda-tion in Support of Camp Invention® & School Tours The Works: Ohio Center for History, Art & Technology was recently awarded a $12,150 grant from the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation for support of the 2014 Camp Invention® summer camp and fourth grade programs during the 2014–15 school year. Martha Holden Jennings Founda-tion funding will support “Deeper Learning: Powered by The Works,” a series of programs designed to pro-vide STEM learning opportunities for fourth grade students in the Newark City School District. The programs focus on an “Energy and Electricity” theme. This summer, “Morphed,” a Camp Invention® program for students ages 8–11, will feature hands-on activities, brainstorming, experimentation, and action. Camp Invention campers will build original prototypes, create per-sonalized electric-powered vehicles, and analyze their inventions in teams. In the fall, The Works will present the electrifying “That’s Shocking” pro-gram at assemblies at Newark City Schools. The program also features the hands-on “Energy and Electric-ity” program for fourth graders at The Works museum, and the “Watts Up?” program in fourth grade classrooms throughout Newark. “Deeper Learn-ing: Powered by The Works” will culminate with a fun family night at The Works in April 2015, when fourth grade students will display their final projects.
